Android : Change Absolute Position Of A View Programmatically?

Aug 9, 2010

If you use an AbsoluteLayout (I know that it is deprecated, but it was the only way to solve my problem ) you can give the childViews the tag "android:layout_x" and "android:layout_y" to set their absolute position within the AbsoluteLayout.

However I dont want to set these informationen in the xml, because I only know them at runtime. So how can I set these parameters at runtime programmatically? I dont see any method on the View like view.setLayoutX(int x) or something.

Here is my XML, which works fine, when I set the layout_x and layout_y values. code...

Is it possible to set the absolute position of a view in android? (I know that there is an AbsoluteLayout, but it's deprecated...)
Lets say I have a screen 240x320px, and I want to put an ImageView which is 20x20px with its center at the position (100,100).
What do I have to do?

Android : Get Absolute Coordinates Of A View?

Feb 8, 2010

I'm trying to get the absolute screen pixel coordinates of the top left corner of a view. However, all methods I can find such as getLeft() and getRight() don't work as they all seem to be relative to the parent of the view, thus giving me 0. What is the proper way to do this?

If it helps, this is for a 'put the picture back in order' game. I want the user to be able to draw a box to select multiple pieces. My assumption is that the easiest way to do that is to getRawX() and getRawY() from the MotionEvent and then compare those values against the top left corner of the layout holding the pieces. Knowing the size of the pieces, I can then determine how many pieces have been selected. I realise I can use getX() and getY() on the MotionEvent, but as that returns a relative position that makes determining which pieces were selected more difficult. (Not impossible, I know, but it seems unnecessarily complicated).

Android : Add View Progamatically To Activity's Absolute Layoute Setting It's Possition?

Oct 7, 2010

I have a form with several Views on it, the last one is a Spinner that is bound to an adapter to get it's data from a Web Server via a POST request, at the end I append an additional entry for "Other...". If this option is selected on the spinner, a new EditText View at the bottom where the user enters a custom value, I've managed to get the EditText View to show on the screen, but it's positioned at the very top, over my other Views and I can't seem to find the way to make it appear at the bottom, below the Spinner as I want it to, here is the code I have so far:

EditText suggestCarrierField = new EditText(getBaseContext());
suggestCarrierField.setLayoutParams(new ViewGroup.LayoutParams(
ViewGroup.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT,
ViewGroup.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT));
suggestCarrierField.setHint("Suggest your carrier");

((AbsoluteLayout) findViewById(R.id.createAccountView)).addView(suggestCarrierField);
((AbsoluteLayout) findViewById(R.id.createAccountView)).invalidate();

Android :: Position Of Child View In Horizontal Scroll View

getLocationOnScreen()
getLocalVisibleRect()
getChildVisibleRect()
like this:
View tmpView = this.findViewById(viewId);
Rect hitRect = new Rect();
tmpView.getLocalVisibleRect(hitRect);
the hitRect is always 0,0 - 0,0.

I need the x,y mainly to scroll to a particular child view. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Android :: Add View To XML Layout Programmatically / Make It Z Order Below Existing View

Oct 8, 2010

I have an XML layout with some custom tabs, a heading, and a ProgressBar(main.xml). I wish to add another XML layout(home.xml) to the main.xml layout, as i wish to keep main.xml re-usable for other activity's layouts and simply add things to it as necessary.The problem: after inflating R.layout.home into rootLayout, it seems as though the ProgressBar contained in rootLayout is hidden underneath the content of home.xml.Is there a way to tell certain views(via XML) to float above other views when the layout is constructed in this way?if not, am i forced to use methods such as progressBar.bringToFront() to raise targeted views to the top?what alternatives do i have in z-ordering views when some layouts are constructed using inflation?

Android :: Animating View Position?

I'm trying to do something which seems simple. I want to have a map view, with a menu that slides up from the bottom of the screen where settings (for overlay) can be adjusted. However when I use a TranslateAnimation to affect the y position of the LinearLayout (which holds the menu), the buttons in the LinearLayout move, but there "hit area" stays in the same position as they were before the animation.

I've also looked into tweening the view's marginTop value, but haven't even been able to determine how that would be done.

When I apply a scale animation to it, and the scale animation is completed, I want the view to stay at that new size for the rest of the activities life cycle. Unfortunately right now when the scale up animation is complete, the view snaps back to the original size. How can I get it to keep the new animated tranformation? I'm using myView.startAnimation(AnimationUtils.loadAnimation(mContext,R.anim.scaleUp150));

Android :: How To Implement Position In Image Adapter To Return Customized View?

Sample code there is a method getitem(position) in the class of image adapter which returns null for the sample example. However, this method is important and is supposed to return the corresponding data item of the image adapter. For example the image adapter could generate a series of customized image views by magically calling the getview method. How could we implement the getitem(position) method under this case to help us gain access to these customized image views?

Android :: OpenGLES Lighting - Should Not Change Position

Oct 7, 2010

I'm writing a little 3D engine for android to better learn the platform and opengl. I hope to eventually use it as a base for little 3D games.

I'm trying to implement lighting right now, and generally following the NeHe opengl android port tutorials. I have a simple spinning cube and 1 light that should not change position. Upon rendering my scene on a device the light appears to "dim" and re-lighten as cube rotates.

This is a swf video of the behavior:
http://drop.io/obzfq4g

The code for my "engine" is located here: [url]
The relevant bits are:

[url]
This is where I'm initializing opengl and setting up my scene. and [url]this is the code for actually rotating / drawing the cube mesh.

I wish I could formulate a better question; but I'm very stuck/confused and can't even think of an intelligent question to ask besides "does anyone know what might cause the kind of behavior I'm seeing?"

Also the slowness / choppyness of the animation in the video is a result of the screencap software. It's smooth throughout the whole rotation on the emu.

Android :: Change ScrollView's Position After Touch?

Jun 17, 2010

I'm trying to make a ScrollView with a list of numbers in it that the user can select from. After the user touches and scrolls, after the finger is lifted I want the scroll to "snap" to the item in the middle of the ScrollView and give me the output. My ScrollView contains a vertical linear layout with TextView objects in it. The ScrollView's vertical size is about 60sp.

I think this would involve the ScrollView.onTouch with a ACTION_UP, but I don't know how to use it. Also, is there a way to get an item's index or value based on a position in the list?
