I would like to be able to program the Android to send a short voice recording (approx 10 word message) to a land line (i.e non mobile) phone. Is this possible? I have googled re this and it appears that though I can send a text message I cant do the voice message thing. Is this still the case?

I can't find an answer. New smartphone user. On the Captivate how do you send short codes like 332211? When I try the phone puts a hyphen in the middle. So using Google and I guess even regular dial it won't go through.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got my first android phone and set everything up last week. i now have groups and stuff in my gmail/google voice contacts that arent on my phone (used vzw backup to oginally get contacts on my phone) i would like to now update the contacts on my phone to match the ones in gmail and good voice....everytime i go to update contacts it uses the vzw thing....is there a way on gmail or google voice to send contacts to my phone?

The shortcode is 411923.Then I got Nexus One (same T-Mobile service and SIM) and still receive the messages from them. Well, one day, there was a big news day (chile earthquake?) and I was getting annoyed by them, so I was gonna reply with "STOP" like you do with most short codes.The Nexus absolutely refuses to even attempt to send this number a text. It won't even try. It immediately shows the "message failed <!>" notification and sound.I can send to various other shortcodes, but this and a few others, the Nexus won't try.I am sure I could get another T-Mobile phone and swap SIMs to do it from that phone.I am just wondering what is the problem?

View 1 Replies View RelatedOne thing I've noticed with my HTC Hero (Sprint) is that I have a very short period of time to answer an incoming call before the caller is directed to voice mail. When I do answer the phone people are routinely telling me that it rang 4 or more times before I answered even though, from my perspective, I answered it rather quickly. Could this have something to do with using downloaded ringtones? Perhaps, while the phone should be ringing, instead, it is loading the ringtone off the sdcard.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am pulling my hair on this problem from a long time and haven't found a solution yet. I am running Android demo program - APIDemo which is available in android source. For my dev I am using ubuntu, earlier when I used to run SoundRecording example it created a file on sdcard but there was no recording as such which was done in the file but now it started working suddenly. I am still not sure why it happened. But anyways good news is that Microphone is working with android emulator - as opposed to what I read at many forums that it does not.
On other hand whenever I am trying to run the voice recognition application available in same APIDemo its giving me an error - "Recording Parameter not supported: sampelrate 1600, channelcount 1, samplerate 1". Is it that speech recognition cannot take higher sample rate and if it cannot what is the sample rate it requires? My microphone supports only 16000 and higher sample rate.
Today i tried to do something that i used to do back in my Alias 2 days (regular cellphone), but couldn't.
Can i record a simple voice message and send it via MMS? It was pretty simple to do with a cell phone...
I saw that the eris comes with a voice recorder, but i recorded a message and was not able to send it.

Also, when sending pictures via MMS, it always resizes them and obviously the person receiving doesn't get the same quality. I realize that sending via Gmail doesn't resize, but i send to other cell phones a lot.
I'm thinking the only fix is lowering the camera resolution? I think that lowering the resolution is still better than having it resized for the message. Has anyone tried lowering the resolution to a point that the picture does not need to be resized for MMS?
Same thing for Video messages.. can't even send them. Not sure if it's HAndcent, or the file is just to big

The only place where it works as of now is the normal calls through mobile where i am able to have normal calls, rest all apps i tried involving voice services doesn't seem to work. i did not do any recent firmware upgrade or anything.

I know how to change this in settings but what I want is a widget that I can keep on my home screen that will disable the screen time out, and then turn it back on again (the way the wifi short cut allows me to turn my wifi receiver on and off without going through settings.
I do not think such a short cut already exists, I would happily write it myself, but not sure how to go about starting.
I just got a Star N9300 phone and activated it with Ultra Mobile Service. I tried texting some short codes on it but keep getting the message: Free Msg: Unable to send message - Message Blocking is active. Text messaging to regular phone numbers works fine though. I called Ultra's support and they said that they block short code messages. They did not offer to unblock the messages so I'm stuck. Is there a way I can get around this by programming my phone or a program I can install that will allow me to get messages. I am running Android 4.0 and it is an unlocked GSM phone.

an app from the app store called "Facebook Touch". About 2 hours later, I learned that every contact on my Google Voice contact list, which I did a sync with on my phone, got SPAM
with the same SPAM - It was texted out to everyone, here was the message -

I can't imagine that it could not have come from the phone. Maybe from that Facebook Touch app as that application had a lot of SPAM just within the application itself (its not deleted).
I've been using Google Voice on my Env Touch for about a year now but only mainly for the sms transcriptions as the Env Touch doesn't have an app for it.
So, here's my main problem. All of my contacts are just in my phone. I don't have anyone's email address as all I do mainly is txt people or send them a message on facebook. I'm wanting to add all of my contacts to my gmail account so when I get my Incredible everything will be there. Right now my sms from GV just has the number and I actually don't know any of my friends numbers, they're just in my phone. *yes, technology can be a sort of burden at times* So I don't have a clue who the voicemail is from until I call into it. Is there any easy way of porting all these contacts from either my phone, backup assistant, or facebook? Also, do android phones take your contacts and your facebook and merge them into your gmail account?
This is the first time I've rooted a phone, and i picked the Kaos Froyo V38 as the rom, but I've noticed since i did all of this my battery has been far far worse than what it was un-rooted. Today, for example i had my phone off the charger and on vibrate (with gps, mobile network off) and i was down to under 15% in under 5 hours. This is so much worse. Is it because i'm now running 2.2? What can i do to help this besides wiping the battery data (in the recovery menu)? I'm not really good with all of this yet, so some suggestions would be wonderful.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm sure its been discussed and all but I think that the voice recognition software is capable of being much more advanced.There should be a way to just give your phone a voice command without having to manually open an app. It probably would have to be running in the background the whole time, analyzing everything it hears, so it may use a lot of battery and cpu.therefore it may be easier to have a starter phrase to tell it to listen more carefully. for example: say the said app is running in the background,listening to every noise, but it wouldn't begin to really analyize until you say something like; "hey, phone!" or "yo, droid!" (or whatever tag phrase). I don't know what would have to go into an app like that for it to work but hey, if an app like that was designed, then I think the android would be a really smart smartphone. In the end thanks for all the awesome apps you guys are already developing. be sure to tell me when someone develops something like that though.
