Dear all, I'm making a simple file decoder for Android 2.2 that needs to find the filename of the encoded file from a header. This filename should then be used as the filename for the decoded file (as you would expect).The filename is identified by the substring name=, so the actual name starts 5 places after that. The line is read by a BufferedReader and temporarily stored in currLine.For some reason I can't understand nor find on the web, Strings do not always seem to be Strings.Gives no output file, nor an IO exception. The string is parsed properly though: from the System.out debugging lines.

Its clear that '+' doesn't work here but is there some other option to achieve such a string concatenation, so that one could define a bunch of string resources that have a common prefix?I realize of course that I could do such resource string concatenation at runtime but defining them statically in the resources would seem so much more elegant and simpler.

It used to display a design and XML tab that allowed me to update it. now its just showing up as a table. Any ideas? I don't understand how I could have messed this up. I did check in another project of mine and I am getting the same results so I don't think it has anything to do with the XML.

When I make a new android project and I go to res/values/string.xml I get a screen to add android resources instead of a XML document. I keeps getting the error about : java.lang.NullPointerException.

I have to read xml files from server and display data from all files. some data contains character '�' which gives me SAXException while parsing. I have tried to convert UTF-8 format. but it gives me out of application as soon as that char is found in file.
I have used SAXParser to parse xml file.
I am going through the android hello world tutorial, and have been stuck when trying to create an XML UI. For some reason, even on a new program, in which I have made no changes to the default build, it gives the error java.lang.NullPointerException after every character I type. I can't figure out why it is doing this, as I am just trying to edit the text between the Text I want to set it to say something other than what is set by default. However, even with a fresh build, no changes, and I just try to change the text within the xml tags, it still gives the error. What do I need to do to allow it to let me type? I am using the eclips IDE and the android sdk. I was able to do the first part of the tutorial that doesn't involve XML.

I'm aware of Verizon's limit on text messaging characters but this is odd.I can send texts going beyond 160 characters but when I receive them, that's when the trouble starts. I'll get the text broken up into 2-3 separate texts, but always followed up by another message stating "Media Objects were removed...". Then, the person sending the text receives a message stating their text may have not been received. This is all between Verizon to Verizon customers.Anyone know what's going on? or how to fix it? Did not have this problem with other Verizon phones so I'm guessing it's only applying to the Droid/Eris?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've only seen this mentioned once or twice but one thing that annoys me with the update is the character number that's displayed when typing a text. Why did they have to put a black box counter right in the messaging window when typing in portrait mode? After creating a message, that box covers part of the last word in the first line. And when flipping it to landscape the character box disappears!!?! I shouldn't have to turn the phone to read back what I just typed.The concept of displaying the amount of characters left is a welcome feature but the execution is really poor. I would think it would be obvious to place it in another area outside of the field that you're actually interacting with.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFirst Android phone and just switched to Verizon. I was sending a text and it was over 160 characters. I sent it and got a message saying that if I am texting a non Verizon customer they will only get the first 160 characters...I've had an iPhone and a Blackberry on ATT and it would split the message up for me and send a couple if it was over 160. Is there no way to do this on the Droid? Do I seriously have to try and squeeze everything into 160 characters like I did when I had the RAZR?

Does anyone else have this problem, or is this something that is more a problem with my actual account?

I can do things like: < b> my bold text < /b> and that works (leading space added for this post).
I try to tag the text with color but no color shows up and there are no errors.

I also try adding a new line - I've tried things like:
< LF> some text, space at beginning only for this post < /LF>
< CR> this didn't work either < /CR>
< p> some text, space at beginning only for this post < p>
But, no new paragraph / new line, carriage rtn happens.
Is there a way to loop through the values of strings.xml?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've already written a game engine in java using eclipse and opengl es, I had one project (an android project) which contained both of my packages com.logic.engine com.logic.testapp I wanted a way to keep my engine and test app seperate, I've made an earlier post about how this is done, and I figured out how to reference one project in the build path of another (or just creating a jar file). My problem is that, lets say I now have my engine all wrapped up in an android project com.logic.engine, and now someone would like to use this engine to create a game, so they create an android project com.someclient.game, well now because we have one android project referencing another, it crashes everytime. Now obviously i need the android sdk in my engine package in order to reference things, but its also required on the client app, since the activity is what is actually being run by android. I guess my question is, how can i create a project for my game engine without it being an android project, but still referencing the android sdk, and without causing it to crash the client app using it?
