Android :: Better Keyboard Skin / Multi Tap Settings
Feb 23, 2010
Ok so I know you can make your own skins in Better Keyboard and change the buttons around to your liking. As shown here on the Gum and Oil Slick skins respectively. My question is can I put a button there that access the Settings of Better Keyboard, specifically toggles the "Muli-Tap" setting. Alternatively I would be curious if a button like the one in the bottom "?123" could be changed to say bring up the full Qwerty when in Compact Qwerty, or even vice-versa.

I've searched the entire internet trying to find a way to take the pictures I've made for a Better Keyboard skin and convert them into an .apk file, but no luck.
I don't want to send them to someone to do it for me, because I like to test it every so often to see what needs to be worked on.
So if anyone could tell meskins (clock and weather) not change after selecting and applying them?,

is there a better keyboard skin that only has one character on each button. love better keyboard...but hate the "loud" and confused look of having a letter with a symbol above it.

Does anyone know where I can find the keyboard protective skin/cover that comes with the Moment? I think it does a great job of protecting the keyboard but I've had mine long enough that it has begun to peel off. But I can't seem to find it anywhere online for purchase.

Do you like the skins (Htc sense) that are on some Android phones, or do you like the base Android install?

Does anyone know about a software keyboard that would replicate the experience of using an old-style phone keypad, without the predictive stuff?
I mean one where you could tap a button once for A, twice for B, three times for C? (similarly the next key would be 1=D, 2=E, 3=F, etc.)
I would think this would have the advantage of being much more accurate than the standard keyboard (where it can be a little tricky to hit the right key), whilst avoiding the unpredictability of predictive texting (with this scheme, you always get an 'O' when you press the '6' area 3 times, you don't have to worry about the software trying to second-guess what you might have wanted).
I've tried out a number of apps, handycent keyboard is in the right direction, but does the predictive stuff; slidetype is a nice idea, but still not totally convinced...

As we've all heard countless times, the Droid supports multi touch capabilities, but does not include them in the onboard software. Are any Dev's out there working on a multi touch capable software keyboard? I'm sure the majority of the Droid-owning population would shell out $$ for one...that should be incentive enough.

I'm sure there is a learning curve to the HTC/Android keyboard. I have an iPod Touch so I feel I have some bad habits to break. While typing fast I find I often miss the space key, (I hit the space but it does not register.) Upon closer examination I realized it has everything to do with lack of multi-touch. If my left thumb is not off the last key fast enough the space bar will not be registered with my right. (if that makes sense.)I'm definitely loving the extra space and I feel like I'm just one hang-up away from being a very fast typer.

I've been loving this HTC keyboard that I've downloaded from xda forum, but the only concern that I have is the fact that I don't have a multi-touch on my HTC keyboard. HTC keyboard apk with multi-touch enabled?

I'm just wondering on the consensus here.I think the screen is so large that it is actually harder to type with Swype and easier to type on the touch keyboard in landscape mode. What are your guys thoughts? I keep switching back and forth.

I don't get the point. What's the benefit of a multi touch keyboard over a regular keyboard or swype? You can hold down one key, but it still recognizes the other keys? So what? What am I missing?

Check me if I'm wrong here, but wasn't the 2.1 update for the Droid supposed to include multi-touch on the keyboard? Mine definitely doesn't appear to have this functionality (as observed while holding down one key and pressing another one). Does this mean I have to go back to Better Keyboard and some other such app? Am I missing something here?

Every time that I try to install an apk file, the phone says "Installing" then it says "Application Not Installed".
I am trying to get the Droid X's multi touch keyboard on my Fascinate. Has anyone tried to do it? Does it work for you? How did you do it?

And how many people use a skin or case, or even screen protector. Personally, I won't leave the house without my otterbox commuter case on, I just feel like it would be for me to leave me house without clothes on, Dones't feel right.

So I have the Droid X but I noticed that the Droid 2 now has a themed version of Swype to fit in with the rest of the UI. I like it a lot.
My question is this. When you push the voice-to-text button does it pop up a window like earlier versions of Swype or does it do the really fast and slick thing that the multi touch keyboard does (just replace the keyboard with the audio waveform thing).

when I explore my newly bought mobile phone I realized that my Keyboard only has chinese keyboard. In my oppinion, this chinese keyboard is not user friendly and hard to use. so I tried to change any settings that related to keyboard and language but still my Keyboard still in chinese. When I streamed at youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxAHM6epz8U) the Keyboard has an english version (but my keyboard is not the same as in the video above). I googled for a while and found no reference for this. Please can anyone help me or experience the same problem as me? For your Information, my Phone is made is China (wonder if this is the cause) and the version is 1.6

Screens beeing always too small :) I am trying to use a skin without any keyboard.
I got it here: http://sacoskun.blogspot.com/2008/09/android-emulator-skin-without-ke...
I am copying the BILGICIFTLIGI-LAYOUT-P folder inside D:androidoolslibimagesskins (please note my system is on D:...)
When running the emulator, I get such message : [2009-04-29 13:30:30 - Emulator] emulator: ERROR: could not find directory for skin 'BILGICIFTLIGI-LAYOUT-P', please use a different name
I tried using the -skindir option and provided the full path : -skindir "d:AndroidToolslibimagesskins" -skin "BILGICIFTLIGI-LAYOUT-P" ...with no success.
If I use -skin HVGA, then it works....
I have tried on 2 different machines and I get the same result. I also tried renaming BILGICIFTLIGI-LAYOUT-P into NOKBD (short name) with no more success. I have btw first tried -skin BILGICIFTLIGI-LAYOUT-P (no ") with no success.
