Android :: Basic Authentication Post Cupcake?
Jun 5, 2009
I routinely use my g1's browser to connect to a website that is protected with basic authentication (so you get the popup for username and password). Ever since updating to cupcake, my phone seems incapable or unwilling to correctly use / remember my passwords. It's driving me crazy, and I'm ready to chuck the thing out the window, or at least revert to the previous version. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I'm trying to do basic authentication to view a protected url. I want to access the protected url which looks like this:
http://api.test.com/userinfo/vid?=1234. So I do the following with a WebView:
mWebView.setHttpAuthUsernamePassword("api.test.com", "", "me@test.com", "my password");
mWebView.loadUrl("http://api.test.com/userinfo/user?uid=53461");
but the authentication doesn't seem to work, I'm just getting an output error page. Am I using the WebView method correctly here?
Update:
Trying with curl: curl -u me@test.com:mypassword http://api.test.com/userinfo/user?uid=53461
and it pulls the page fine. I tried every combination of the host parameter, the owners of the api don't know what I mean by 'realm' though (and neither do I) - what info could I give them to help this along?

Even a "beta" SDK would be helpful. There are lots of app developers who don't necessarily know how to build cupcake from the GIT. Given that HTC Magic (based on cupcake, I heard) is rolling out real soon now, wouldn't it be nice to give the app developers a chance to test if their app is compatible with cupcake?Sure, Android API is supposed to be backwards compatible. However, there are quite a few bugs in the G1 that I had to work around with ugly hacks. Now I start to worry if those hacks would break on cupcake.

I have tried finding the names of the Android OS prior to 1.5 (cupcake), but no luck. Did Google give "A" and "B" versions of the OS dessert names or did that start with cupcake?

Is RTP streaming known to be working on Cupcake devices? I have not been able to start an RTP multimedia session with my G1 since Cupcake upgrade. It was working before the upgrade, e.g. by using the VideoView class and providing an RTSP URL. But the same test which was working before fails now. The RTSP OPTIONS and DESCRIBES exchanges are OK, and then there is a "PVMFFailure" in the Log, and a popup saying "Sorry, this Video can't be played".(Note: I removed a similar message that I sent yesterday because it contained broken links)

I am beating my head against a wall trying to figure out why I cannot get Authenticated on my server whilst using HttpUrlConnection. I need to post a file in a post method and it seems I cannot do so with the DefaultHttpClient and a regular HttpPost (unless I am completely missing something?). I can get DefaultHttpClient to authenticate just fine using setCredentials() but the same doesn't exist for HttpUrlConnection so I try to set through setRequestProperty: conn.setRequestProperty("Authorization", "Basic " + Base64EncodedUserNamePassword); to no avail.

I am new on SSL programming. The Android app I am developing needs to open an SSL socket to a secure server which requires the client authentication. When running on the Emulator and trying to talk to a Server running on the host PC, the following Android code snippet always gives me a SocketException at the line, SSLSocket c = (SSLSocket) f.createSocket(hostName, 8888) :
private void openSslClient(String hostName) { try { KeyStore keyStore = KeyStore.getInstance (KeyStore.getDefaultType()); InputStream fis = this.getAssets().open("client.bks"); keyStore.load(fis, "clientjks".toCharArray());
KeyManagerFactory kmf = KeyManagerFactory.getInstance ("X509");
kmf.init(keyStore, "clientkey".toCharArray());
TrustManagerFactory tmf = TrustManagerFactory.getInstance ("X509");..............

We already use Android API. But sometimes I want to know is it verified or not? by whom?(e.g. Android team in google) by which one? (e.g. Unit test or Basic Acceptance Test for API) Do android team have any test report? Because this is a platform for smartphone. For example, if there has any problem in Android API (e.g. Date and Time), it makes customer spend money and time more. But I can't find any report about verifying API test. If you have any information about it, please let me know :) Also if there has no information, how can I test some API to verify API.

I'm having great difficulty getting basic textures to work in an OpenGL ES app on my Droid (2.1-update1). I trying to render a simple textured quad - four vertices, two faces, with normals and texture coords. When rendered, the texture is garbled and full of static, similar to TV noise. The basic colors from the texture map are there, but obviously the texture isn't being read or applied correctly. My texture load sequence is simple : int[] textures = new int[1]; gl.glGenTextures(1, textures, 0); Bitmap bmp = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(cx.getResources(), R.drawable.img); gl.glBindTexture(GL10.GL_TEXTURE_2D, textures[0]); GLUtils.texImage2D(GL10.GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, bmp, 0);...

I am a complete novice to the field of Android applications. I want to build a basic Android application of an "website alert and post service".
Eg: Lets take FACEBOOK or TWITTER as the website.The application which I design should intimate me about the new posts or tweets of my friends. At the same time I must be able to post or tweet just by opening a text box in the application and writing in it. As soon as I write, the message should get posted or tweeted on the website.
I am not sure about the complexity of the above application but I feel this would reduce the trouble of opening a browser, typing the website name and then logging in by putting the username and password.

We are developing some applications on cupcake which depend on packages not available in 1.1 version of SDK and will not build on it. Debugging and make are very slow on ubuntu open source. So, we are eagerly waiting for a windows SDK based on cupcake. Is there a timeframe defined for it by Google?

I'm migrating my app from 1.1 to 1.5. It works right but i get a problem thowing a new intent which used to open a Geo URI in google Maps. I think that it must be related with the fact of Gmaps not beign included as part of the core. Is there any way to solve it or change it if i want to keep the track of 1.1? This is the code: intent mapsIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW); mapsIntent set Data (Uri.parse("geo:0,0?q=" + address + "&z=19"));startActivity(mapsIntent); This is the throwed exception. Android. content. ActivityNot FoundException: No Activity found to handle Intent { action=android.intent.action.VIEW data=geo:0,0?q=Av. PrÃncipe de Asturias,}

Untill now, i were forwarding my PC ports using telnet, but with Cupcake, it's possible to use directly with emulator, using -qemu - redir option. But i'm not getting success doing this. I'm doing emulator -vm myconfig -qemu -redir udp:1234::1234 or emulator -vm myconfig -qemu -redir udp:1234:<my ip here>:1234 and both starts the emulator with the warning "qemu: could not set up redirection 'udp:1234::1234' " or "qemu: could not set up redirection 'udp:1234:<my ip here>:1234' "Please, what i'm doing wrong? any successfull case? thanks a lot P.S - i already compiled SDK 1.5 and it's working perfectly

I have a so called reliable resource who works in the T-mobile store, and so far he has been right about anything to do with G1. He predicted the OTA release, and that was right, but he has also said T- mobile will be releasing the cupcake to t-mobile customers in uk end of March. Of course all i/we can do is wait. if anyone has any information to back that claim it would be appreciated. I know there's loads of cupcake talk that has been going on for months. but i believe this is the real thing, else he wouldn't jeapordise these claims to get people to buy the G1 and then get hundreds of complaints if it didnt happen

I am currently writing the backend for a service which has 3 clients: browser, android native and iphone native. I am having a little trouble with coming up with an authentication system since I don't know what can really be done on the clients.
I am using django + twisted for the backend.
Basically, I am going to be writing RestfulAPIs to open up for the clients on both phones to call.
Now the real question is, how should I come up with an authentication system?
I have thought about using sessionids, this works very well with the browser and I can use django's integrated app for that.
However, I don't know if it's possible for both the iphone and android to obtain a unique sessionid on the handset. Should I write an API call to distribute unique sessionids?
if that's the case, is it possible for me to still use django's authentication system since a lot of the stuff here are customized? ( I am not even using a rdbms - I am sticking with mongodb, so I was on the verge of dropping django's authentication app ftm).
I have looked at foursquare's API and their basic auth method requires you to pass in user:password in every http request header. That adds 1 additional authentication each call which can kind of seem excessive.

Are there any podcast players that allow authentication? I have the streamlink account for coast to coast am and they dont yet have an android app. I can download the MP# files of the shows every night but would much rather be able to just stream with podcast. I have a link to the RSS feed for said podcast but it requires a UN/PW. Can anyone suggest an app that will handle this? They also provide Real Player links and Windows media player links so if anyone knows how to make these work with the droid that would work as well.
