View 2 RepliesCan anyone please enlighten me on to why there is so little news concerning the RC33 update for G1 dev phone owners? I'd rather not do it manually as it sounds like you have to clear out your phone. Why aren't we getting an update? and why is there no news on the subject? Why did I pay $25 dollars for a developer account when we seem to not only get no benefits, but there is ABSOLUTELY NO support for us from the company? Am I the only one frustrated about this?
View 1 Replies View Related4.2 of Jelly Bean update could be imminent for my Nexus 7, and I'm wondering about what and how to backup before the update. The question I think is a general android one though... which is why I'm posting it here.
This was going to be a question about factory reset... but reading other posts I think I now understand that factory reset just deletes data/cache, so I think any time you do that it's just gonna return the device to a clean ROM state without changing the ROM. (whatever flavour/version ROM is)
When a ROM update is applied (either official or manually flashed), I guess it wipes everything, is it like a disk format or something like that? I have installed CWM recovery and rooted my device, I think the update will unroot it, but will the CWM recovery still be loaded?
And then, what backup should I take before the update... I think a Titanium Backup is a must, I understand how that works. But a Nandroid backup too? Or is that more like taking a disk image, would that be useless to restore after the ROM has been updated? And if so, does that mean any old Nandroid backups should be discarded?
Once the new update to 4.2 is installed, is it advisable to take a Nandroid backup immediately, or better to download the stock 4.2 image and keeping it as a starting point? (does this amount to the same thing?) I guess this is where a factory reset would return it to stock (providing I haven't moved anything to the system apps)?
Or is it possible/better to use a Nandroid backup as a point in time image of everything that's been installed on the device after adding back all the apps etc? I guess that leads me to wonder if the Nandroid backup is needed at all if I'm going with the Titanium Backups...
Im still learning a ton about the android OS and I have a dumb question. Are there apps the Android market that is made for a rooted phone only. Reason im asking is because I saw something on there but it looks like its made for a rooted phone only and I dont wanna risk screwing up my phone over it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSome of my closed apps automatically start when internet connection is opened. How do they sence the connection is opened? Is there an app that can stop them from opening?
My app killer will kill them when I manually hit the kill bottom or when the phone is locked. But there is no settings that stop them from starting and running after I start my data or WiFi connection.
Is it possible to view what requests are made to external sites/ servers by an app? Basically I'd kind of like to throw an application (I did not make) into a debugging type thing to see what requests (to where and what data) it makes. This is to kind of ensure a third party app does what it is saying, and isn't sending data elsewhere.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI need your help in knowing if string/integer can be made factory configurable in android. eg: A welcome message is stored at some location. To change this message all a person needs to do is go to the above location and enter the new text. The ROM image build command would now take this new string for display. The advantage is that you don't need to recompile your entire project.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a way to create a shortcut or perhaps an App that will allow me to pair/connect with devices easier. I hate that I have to go through the following path to do this: Menu/Settings/Wireless & Networks/Bluetooth Settings/Select Device. I would love to be able to add a shortcut on my homescreen that would allow me to pair with a specific device. Or maybe a widget that lists your devices so you can just tap the one to connect with. My car will connect automatically but other devices won't.

View 1 Replies View Relatedhow "push" works in my Android App. My phone "chimes" - (screen does not light up or anything).I've got to:
A) Push button to wake up phone
B) unlock phone
C) drag down notice area
D) Find the push message for my app
E) Tap on it
F) Finally - I'm at my App and it processes my message.
Here's how my App works under iOS:-
A) "Slide to unlock" (because the "push" already woke phone screen up)
B) I'm at my App instantly.
Can Android settings be adjusted, or push message parameters be changed, or an Android "service" be written, that could make the usage of my App upon receipt of an android "push" notice lots more simple? (e.g. to light up the phone screen if it's asleep, and to auto-open my app at the right token as soon at the device is unlocked after getting the push notice?)
With the many devices available, each with different screen density and resolution, I am wondering - how many versions of an image should I make for the different device screen sizes? Is it 3? small, medium, large or just 1.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a made custom popup marker. There is a button on the popup that shows up when you click on a marker on the map. Its function is to open a new activity when the button is clicked. So in the onClick function of the setOnClickListener() call, I created a new object of the Activity class and used that to call the various methods that needs to start the activity but I keep getting a java.lang.NullPointerException thrown regarding the line that calls the startActivityForResult() method. Not sure of the best way to go about this. I have pasted a sample code...
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an Android LG Optimus Q (through Straight Talk). Because I wanted a screenshot app and to be able to have more "internal" memory, I rooted my device today and did a couple of other things.
1) I first rooted my device (and therefore installed SuperUser)
3) I installed Terminal Emulator
2) I downloaded CWM
3) I made a back-up (it said Done...)
4) I installed ROM Manager
5) I created (or at least I think so, since I went through all the steps) a second partition in my SD so I could create more "memory" destined to be used by programs.
6) I downloaded Link2SD and moved a couple of things to (I think...) the second partition in the SD
Everything was going ok, even though I wasn't sure if the partition had been created or not because I couldn't find a way to check it... until I went to check my 800 pictures and... they were all gone!!! I decided not to freak out at first because I remembered that I had made a backup directly through CWM... so I tried retrieving it through there... and nothing - nothing found... WTF?!
So I tried checking for the backup through ROM Manager, and... NOTHING! There must be a way to at least recover the files... You know, like when you accidentally delete stuff in your camera you can still recover it with a program... is there anything like that? or steps I should follow to recover the backup? I had pictures of my kid there and I just REALLY don't want to count them as lost.
I have one specific person in my phone, and whenever they text me, it pops up on the screen and stuff, but the phone will not vibrate, will not make the alert noise or anything, Ive tried deleting and reading the contact, i tried making a custom sound for them, etc.. so weird. they aren't on a black list or anything. anyone else have this problem? what do i do?

Sorry to already be asking stupid new guy questions, but I just made the switch to Android and my new Droid 2 apparently isn't reading my SD card. Any ideas as to why this may be and what I can do to fix it? Keep in mind I'm not overly tech savvy (but not incompetent).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am writing an application that calls IVR Systems. For example a Customer Service line where 3 or 4 options or the telephone number must be sent after the call is made. I don't remember where but I remember that if you were to put in comma's , it would be a pause so I am trying to dial a number such as "tel:555555,0,2,3" which should dial 55555 then it should send 0 with a pause then 2, pause, and then 3. I have seen a discussion similar to what I want to do... http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa... I am testing with a HTC Hero, and when it starts dialing, I can hear the first tone being sent when its dialling, in the above case I hear a 5, and then the dialler crashes and drops back to my application. The method call to managedQuery doesn't include this param and there fore I see no way to implement this w/o somehow overriding the managedQuery method?
I've created a second query method in my content provider which accepts an additional param, the limit param but I don't think I can make the managedQuery method call this custom query method of my content provider.
What's the best way to do this?
For reference, here is my content provider class...

View 13 Replies View RelatedIf you haven't already, download the "Fast Web Installer" app to enable automatic download and installation of apps to your phone from the AppBrain site while on your PC. So awesome now to just browse the AppBrain site, click install on all the apps you want, and walk out the door with them automatically downloading and installing. Only works for free apps but that's not a huge problem (it beats waiting for Froyo to enable this feature that's for sure). If you don't use AppBrain, now is a good reason to try it out.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I get the Droid Inc. and begin to fish around the Incredible forum for ROMs and kernels. It's very limited over there (short supply probably means less devs.) and the ROMs are far less polished with even less theming options. I'm lucky I can still troll around here because my girl has the D1 and it gives me an excuse to keep her phone updated until more things come around for the Dinc.
