Android :: Animation - Animate An Imageview Across Several Layouts

I want to be able to make an imageview move from point a to b while going through several different views. For example, say I have a table layout, is there any way an imageview can move from the topleft cell to the bottomright cell? Everything I tried seems to indicate that an imageview will only be shown in it's own container - none of it's parents, siblings or children will show it. Is that correct? is there any way around it? like creating an overlay or a transparent canvas on top of the entire thing so I can do it?

How can I animate a color change?
Like with AlphaAnimation there is fromAlpha and toAlpha, I need something like ColorAnimation that provides fromColor and toColor. Is there anything like that already?

I've met a problem with animation when tried to make a View to perform the animation which should cross 2 layouts, e.g. make a translate animation so a view could move down to the TableRow below. This trick works fine when i try to move a view within a single TableRow but not when i try to move it up or down. I've also discovered that if i create a single RelativeLayout and apply the same animation there, it works fine, but i can't arrange all the components i need on the screen. Could anybody please provide me any hints about it?

I have a ImageView that needs to be slide in from the bottom. Remain there for 5 sec. And then slide out. How do I do that? There is no user intervention.

I guess this is kind of an odd question but i have tried setting onClicklistener on an ImageView and it has worked. But the problem is that the user cannot sense the click. I mean if some of u have worked on other mobile environs(like apple iphone) then wen we click on a Image in other environs then it gives an effect on the image so that the user can understand that the image has been clicked.
I have tried setting alpha using "setalpha" method but it doesnt work. Though the same thing is working fine on onFocusListener implementation. Can some1 suggest a different way to modify the image on click...

I have an ImageView on which I have applied rotate animation. Since I want the rotation to go on continuously, I gave the repeatCount as infinite in my rotate.xml
android:repeatCount="infinite"
In onCreate(), I load the animation and start it.
Animation myAnim = AnimationUtils.loadAnimation(this, R.anim.rotate);
objectImg.startAnimation(myAnim);
When a button is pressed, the rotation must stop. Hence in my onClick(), I called clearAnimation().
objectImg.startAnimation(myAnim);
My simple doubt is whether it's the right thing to do, to stop the animation?
I assume clearAnimation() is to loadAnimation(), but there is no stopAnimation() corresponds to startAnimation().

I've created a layout with an image view and a web view. The web view is set to have a default visibility of gone. When the activity fires up it displays the image view first and when the web view has finished loading its url, it marks itself as visible and the imageview is marked as hidden.
When the imageview is shown, I would like it to rotate repeatedly just for a little added pizazz.
I have never done animations before in Android and all the posts I found when I asked the internet were not helpful; thus, I have returned to SO for help.
So if I start with this...final ImageView splash = (ImageView)findViewById(R.id.splash);
How do I create a repeated rotate animation and apply it to the ImageView?

Imagine I have a toolbar implemented as a horizontal LinearLayout as follows:
[___Button1____] [___Button2___] [___Button3___] [___Button4___]
When someone clicks on Button2, I want the toolbar to change to:
[___Button1____] [___________Button2___________] [___Button3___]
The toolbar should transition from the first state to the second state through a smooth animation. I would like to use a scale animation on Button2, and while that is happening, Button3 and Button 4 should move to the right (while the animation is going on). At the end of the animation (or maybe during), I will fade Button4 out.
Question: How do I achieve an animation of the layout of the toolbar such that only one component (i.e. Button2) is being scaled while the others are not being scaled - the layout is simply updated during the animation of Button2.
I looked at LayoutAnimationController, but it does not appear to allow me to either:
1. specify different animations for the different components, OR
2. indicate that only animate one component and don't animate the others.
I can't scale the entire toolbar because that distorts Button1/3/4 which I don't want.

I'm creating a game where there's a screen that, for the most part, is shared by four different activites - but a key portion of the screen will be completely different, depending upon which activity is active. Basically, on the left will be an image of the player and along the bottom there will be a row of buttons (let's say for Armour, Weapons, Magic, Skills). This leaves the top-right portion, which will need to dynamically change to represent the button pressed. (So, one moment the top-right portion is the armour selection activity, and the next it's the weapon selection activity, and so on.)
Is this possible? Can I have a layout within a layout and dynamically point the nested layout at a (nested) layout.xml of my choosing? Or, am I looking at just duplicating most of the layout four times (for the four different activities?) Or, am I going to be looking at linking the four activities to a (the top-right) view component, and then having to dynamically construct all of *that* view's child views based on the currently active activity? Well, that's about as much sense as I can make this question make.

I've created an application that show around 250 images in ImageView. Images are loaded one after another, 15-30 images per second. Basically the whole thing gives an illusion of a rotating 3D object, at least it should.
The problem is next, app hangs when loading certain images(i.e. I see a few seconds of fluid animation and then animation hangs, jump 10-15 frames(images) ahead and continues. It always happens at the same places in animation cycle.
I though that Android might not have enough resources to handle something like this, so I've resized images to half their size, but it did't help. I've tried buffering images but that did't help either(actually, maybe a little, I think that animation looks a little bit smoother).
And now the weirdest thing. I use the touch screen to allow users to "rotate" the 3D object on those images, and while rotating I again experience those hangs at exactly the same places as with the animation.
All images are in .png format and their size vary from 15kB to 40kB.

there are a board (8 * 8) and a ImageView (A). for example, i want to move A from (0, 0) to (0, 1) to (1, 1) to (1, 2) step by step. i tried TranslateAnimation. but i failed. 1. it cannot be step by step. it only show the last step. 2. it cannot stay at the last point (1,2). it always translate back.

I have a listlayout with items in it that looks like this:
There is first an ImageView (the light) and then two textViews. All of this inside a TableLayout. (source here: http://code.google.com/p/switchctrl/source/browse/trunk/android/res/layout/device_switch.xml)
I want to have a rotating animation of a loading indicator Ontop of this light when this particular device (light) performs an action or an action is performed on it.
How do I put an animation ontop of this light imageview?

I have a strange issue - from time to time the animation that should fade out my control (ImageButton) does not kick in immediately. I am using the fadeout animation to hide it and then in myListener on its end (onAnimationEnd) I put new resource as the image on the button.
Somewhere in my app code:
Animation a = AnimationUtils.loadAnimation(this,R.anim.fadeout); a.setAnimationListener(new myListener(location)); buttons[location].setAnimation(a); a.startNow(); // regardless if its start() or startnNow() it will work in most of the cases but not 100% reliable I actually can see in debug Log when its late, happens after few more clicks
Then in myListener.onAnimationEnd(Animation a):buttons[location].setImageResource(R.drawable.standard_button);
Seems there is a rule that the every 4th or 5th animation does not start ...

I'm working on a game that in some ways is similar to Tetris (imagine a 2D array of colored squares that sometimes move around)
I am trying to animate the individual squares so they will smoothly slide down from coordinate to the next. Since I wanted to use Android's built-in tweening feature, the animation has to apply to the whole View (rather than parts of it). This doesn't work well for me because I only want some of the colored squares to slide down, and the rest of them to stay still.
The (theoretical) solution I came up with to resolve this is to make 2 Views, layered directly on top of each other. The top view is for animating squares when they need to move, and the bottom layer is for the static squares. The animation-layer is transparent until I am ready to animate something. I then simply turn on the colored square in the animation-layer, tween it to the new location, and turn it back off when done. In the same time span, the static-layer just turns squares on and off at the right time to make the whole thing look seamless to the end user.
The proposed solution is just a theory, since I haven't been able to make it work correctly yet. Since I have been having trouble, I was wondering if this is even the best way to solve the problem? Perhaps there is a more elegant solution that I am over looking?

I'm trying to figure out how to animate in and out of Imageviews.
Basically I have a LinearLayout with an ImageView and a Button at the bottom. Everytime the button is pressed, onClick() is invoked and I do
image.setImageResource(imageArray[imageCounter]);
I simply change the image displayed on the ImageView by selecting different photos in the @drawable.
Now I want to put an animation when these imageviews are changed (when button pressed). I used
inAnimation = AnimationUtils.makeInAnimation(this,true);and in onClick() I do image.setImageResource(imageArray[imageCounter]); image.startAnimation(inAnimation);
This works fine too. The new image comes to the screen animated. But how can put an out animation too? It seems only one animation can be assigned with startAnimation().
What is the best way to animate an imageview OUT and then animate another imageview IN? Because I want to change the animation depending on the button pressed, I cannot use ViewFlipper. For example, if I press button_Anim1, current image will slideout from right and the new image will fade in. But if I press button_Anim2, current image will slideout from top and the new image will slidein from left. And so on.
I see that I cannot use two different image.startAnimation() in the onClick() method to make the current image View.INVISIBLE and then make the new image View.VISIBLE.

I saw the Android app "Mobisle Notes Free" implement a really cool ListView, where a row gets moved to the bottom if its checkbox is checked. It's not just a simple refresh, but an actual animation where you see the row travel to the bottom. Does anyone know how to implement this?

I installed the HTC Battery widget (downloaded from the Android Market) and notice that while the battery is being charged, there is a visually effective animation that continuously runs.
I always though such animations in widgets were not supported in the SDK.
How is this technically possible?

AK Notepad does this nice little thing where, on displaying the file list, it "unravels" rapidly down the screen. Are they hacking that incredibly manually, or are there simple OS calls to make lists display in various ways?

Is it possible in Android to get a callback when a Frame Animation (AnimationDrawable) has completed playing its frame sequence? I know when a Tween Animation has completed, it calls onAnimationEnd(), but is there something similar for frame by frame animations?

im currently playing around with a Game that architecture is basically like the example 2d Games like JetBoy / LunarLander and so on. But as things now running (and animating continuously) they have kind of "hiccups" when the GC is running. I have done all i can to allocate as much Objects in front. There is nearly nothing that is created "new" besindes some Strings that are used to set the Score and so on. (TextView doesn't take int's =( - So do you have similar Problems that the GC is "lagging" your 2s game ? any solutions ?

I would like to animate a view I have to appear like it was sliding off the screen to the left, and then sliding back to the screen from the right. I've set the duration of the first and the start Off set of the second as 1000, so the second should start right after the first ends. Instead I get their order reversed and I see my view sliding from right into the screen, and then sliding off the screen to the left. Reversing the animations order didn't do anything. Anyone got a clue why is this happening, and how can I do what I want?

My app polls a server every 15 seconds to see if there are any new items to display, then downloads the new items and disposes of the old items so that there are always exactly 100 items in the GridView. Unfortunately, this process can be confusing to the user if they see a page of images change without knowing where the items went.
My idea is that there could be some kind of animation (such as the new items being inserted at the top and pushing the older ones down the list) to show what action is happening. Unfortunately, I have no clue how to make this animation happen.
Is my idea even possible? How would I accomplish this?

This question was raised a few months ago here: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa... which suggests that animations cannot be done within an App Widget.
However, I'm sure I've seen some App Widgets animating... I have an App Widget which contains an ImageView. When the user clicks on this Widget I would like the ImageView to continuously rotate until a certain task (think synchronization) completes. This can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes.

I'm trying to animate some text 'zooming out' on top of another view. My code looks something like code...
with animText being invoked in the onDraw() routine of the BoardView. What I'm seeing, however, is the board zooming out, not the text, despite the above calls to setAnimation().

I have a view in a fragment. This fragment is within a FrameLayout. I want to animate this view moving outside the fragment borders. However, the view always get clipped when crossing the border. I have tried by setting "android:clipChildren='false'" and android:clipToPadding="false" to everything, but I can't get it to work.

I currently have a view in my Android app and the view is playing a frame animation. I want to animate the view to increase its size to 150%. When I apply a scale animation to it, and the scale animation is completed, I want the view to stay at that new size for the rest of the activities life cycle. Unfortunately right now when the scale up animation is complete, the view snaps back to the original size. How can I get it to keep the new animated tranformation? I'm using myView.startAnimation(AnimationUtils.loadAnimation(mContext,R.anim.scaleUp150));
