Android :: AlertDialog From Call Screen ?
Sep 9, 2010
I want to display an alert in the call screen when the user initiates a call.
Currently I have:
- A class MyAlert extends Activity to view and process the alert
- A class CallReceiver extends BroadCastReceiver to process the call
From CallReceiver, I launch the alert with startActivity on MyAlert. The problem is that the alert appears in my main activity, so we don't see it at the right time, but only if we open the app, what is totally useless.

I am trying to figure out what is the best way to go about creating dialogs. I can either create my own Dialog class (which, to me, is more clean and organized), or I can use AlertDialog.Builder (which would be done inline, and funky looking)... What are the positivies and negatives of either implementation?

I've got something simple where I want to raise an AlertDialog after catching this keypress:
CODE:............................
The interesting thing here is that when you hit the back button, you *do* see the AlertDialog for a split second, but then you're back at the previous screen you were at. Almost as if the system is hellbent on sending the user back to the previous screen, regardless of what the developer has constructed around this event. I'm using 1.5r2 here.

It seems when screen orientation changes, the activity's onCreate() method is called. In my onCreate() method, I have an AlertDialog which pops up when the activity is called. The problem is when I switch the screen sideways, the popup is displayed again. How can I avoid this?

So i rooted with Droid Does rom, because i heard its nice and fast and what not. So basically the only problem i have with it is this.
When on a call, the proximity sensor doesnt work, so the screen goes black. And when i press the end call button to turn the screen back on it just ends the call. Is this normal? Or a known issue?

On my previous phone it had a "full lock" feature on it that when a text message or phone call came in it would show all stars on the screen and require my password before you could answer the call or view the text message does the hero have that option or is there an app I can download?
I tried the pattern lock thing it has but if a call comes through or a text message comes through it still allows you to answer and/or view the message without entering the lock pattern..

I have an HTC Evo that hangs up on everyone that calls me.I keep the phone in my pocket and, in trying to pull it out to answer a call, my leg slides the bar.I could keep the phone in my pocket upside down and then I would answer every call but that isn't much of an alternative.I am looking for something that overrides the Sense's lockscreen/answer screen.I tried both GoTo and WidgetLocker. Both are great programs but neither addresses the incoming call issue.

I'm using LauncherPro plus and cannot get back to the call screen to disconnect the call, the one in progress, if i leave that screen for any reason like to go to the home screen. If I switch over to HTC Sense I just hit the phone button from the home screen and it takes me back to the call in progress and I see a red 'end call' button. Is there a solution for this problem other than , just don't leave the call screen?

I am going crazy here... I've had this thing since it launched and everything is great except I keep hitting buttons with my face during calls! I mute, sometimes end calls, start 3 way calls etc and I have no idea how to prevent it. Is there any way I can make the screen lock during phone calls or change the call screen altogether?

With the old 1.6 software on my X10, the lack of an automatic screen lock when in an active call was mildly annoying, as not all areas of the screen were active. However, with the new 2.1, just about anywhere on the screen becomes active (especially when juggling two simultaneous calls). What are the chances that we'll see a 'lock screen' function for phone calls? Those of us who actually use the phone for phone calls whilst holding it would surely appreciate it. Other android devices have had this for years.

1) After I make a call, the screen goes black in a matter of seconds. I'm typically using a headset when I notice this. To end the call (or enter numbers in a call menu) I need to press the sleep button to get the screen to light up again. This is a pain in the a$$.I have the screen timeout set for 2 mins.
2) About once or twice a day the home screen will lock where I can't press anything. I need to reboot to fix.

I'm trying to create an application that can use the android as a fax machine, IE Send a picture as a fax or receive a fax and save as a picture. So far I'm starting from the ground up and making sure I can intercept a call at the users discretion. I have an Receiver registered in the Manifest of my program with a filter of Phone_State which flags when the state has changed(IE incoming call).
So on my BroadcastReceiver I'm trying to have an AlertDialog popup prompting the user to either accept as fax or call but the AlertDialog seems to throw a android.view.WindowManager$BadTokenException Error when it has an incoming call. My code is just simple an onReceive(context arg0, intent arg1) and I pass the arg0 to the AlertDialog...
The full error message is below
CODE:.............
From what I have seen in the AlertDialog code, it passes the context as well as a Window and WindowManager, which I believe is why it's crashing, is there a better way or something else I should be using which might overlay the call screen?

I have a TabActivity with 3 tabs. Each tab contains its own Activity. When one of the contained Activities pops up an AlertDialog, there are actually 3 dialogs created. The dialog has a Dismiss button and it must be pressed 3 times to finally dismiss the 3rd dialog.

I'm using ActivityInstrumentationTestCase2 to do automated black-box testing on my GUI. Is there a way to click on a dialog, or get Views belonging to the Dialog in unit tests? The only way I could come up with is to keep a reference to the dialog and have my Activity implement a getter method to let testcases access the dialog. Is there a better way that doesn't require changing my production code?

Anyone know if it is possible to add AlertDialog within a AppWidgetProvider class? Here is the code I am working on where I start the AlertDialog on onEnabled function call.
@Override public void onEnabled(Context context) { super.onEnabled(context); Log.v(TAG,"onEnabledWidget"); AlertDialog.Builder builder = new AlertDialog.Builder(context).setIcon( android.R.drawable.ic_dialog_info ).setTitle(R.string.app_name) .setMessage("This is testing") .setNeutralButton("Confirm", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int id) { } }); alertNotSmc = builder.create(); alertNotSmc.show(); //runs when all of the first instance of the widget are placed //on the home screen .........

I've been working at this all day, and I'm really close but just can't get this to work. I have a button that pulls up an AlertDialog populated with saved entries that include Name and Price. Right now, I can click an item in the Dialog and have it automatically fill in the Name and Price fields in my activity. I want to also be able to long press an item and receive an option to delete it. This is my first try at an Android app, and a lot of this is repurposed from the Notepad Tutorial. Two things I can't figure out:
1) Is my registerForContextMenu sufficient/correct?
2) What am I doing wrong with my onCreateContextMenu? Code...
