Sep 27, 2010When I run the following line of code:
MediaScannerConnection scanner = new MediaScannerConnection( this, null );
scanner.connect();
scanner.scanFile( szFinalFileName, null ); //<---crash here
I get a crash and this message in the console window:
09-26 14:47:44.074: ERROR/MediaScannerService(10288): Failed to delete file /data/data/com.android.providers.media/pause_scan
does anyone have any ideas why this isnt working and what i can do to fix it?

May 5, 2010I'm a Legend user. I've downloaded brightbuyr/shopsavvy and each time, it says that the application needs Barcode Scanner. It then can't find it on the Market at all! Does anyone know where I can get Barcode Scanner from? Eek!

Oct 18, 2010I'd just like to sing the praises of the RAC Traffic app. It's bloody useful, especially for those who have a commute along the British motorways. Last week, I set off towards the M40 in Warwickshire and hit a bit of traffic. Unusual for 7:35am along that route. The traffic started building up and I started to panic in-case I was late for work. So, I got the Wildfire out, loaded the RAC Traffic app and had a look. 90 minute delays on the M40 Southbound. As I was going North, I stayed in the traffic jam. Needless to say, where the roundabout was that split the North and South traffic there was absolutely no traffic going my way.
Extremely useful as I stopped panicking and just listened to Last FM (via Bluetooth). It happened again this weekend, too! We were going on a trip (around 45 minute drive) and we hit traffic. Got the phone out, looked at the traffic, and managed to use an alternate route through the residential areas using my SatNav. I'd strongly recommend this application to anyone who has to do a bit of driving/has a lengthy commute.

Apr 28, 2010I am writing an application that listens to phone calls and perform some tasks when phone call arrives. The Application contains one activity which includes 2 buttons 'Start' and 'Stop' (where starts register the listener and stops unregister it - see code below).
The problem starts when the application is closed ( onDestroy is called ). If the user pressed on the start button and exit from the application the listener still working (which is the expected behavior) but from now it is impossible to unregister the listener since launching new instance of the application create new instance of phoneListener.
My question is:
1.Is there better way to implement my requirement?
2.Can I save the phoneListener object and reload It on application creation?

Android :: Tracking Traffic Patterns / Driving Route Application
Jun 16, 2009I'm wondering if there's an app out there that can track traffic patterns/route times. I know that those Runners apps. can track speed/time to destination, but I'm interested in being able to track which highways/roads have the most/least amounts of traffic on which days and at which times, or which roads cause you to wait the longest at certain lights, so that I can know in advance (the app. would alert me which route to take on which day according to data collected over time). I've always been kind of fascinated by traffic patterns, but I'm also a fairly focused driver, so I don't generally look at times it has taken me on different days. You can feel like taking a back way one day, but does it really save you any time with all the lights you hit instead?

Nov 17, 2009i've registered a PhoneStateListener in BOOT_COMPLETED receiver by using following call: tm.listen(new TestCallStateListener(), PhoneStateListener. LISTEN_ CALL _STATE); If the application crashes then system automatically unregisters the PhoneStateListener. Is there any mechanism of checking if particular PhoneStateLister is registered or not? Actually i'm thinking of starting a repeating service by AlarmManager which will check if PhoneStateListener is registered or not . And if it's not registered then service will register it again. Just a backup if application crashes. Is this a good approach or there is some better mechanism to make sure that PhoneStateListener is always registered even if application crashes ?

Sep 25, 2010I have an application that has a tabActivity and 3 tabs. all off the tabs use a location listener and work with locations. i implement onPause and onResume for every tab to remove and start listening for location accordingly. is this the right way to go? i had another idea to work with and that was implementing a location listener to the tabActivity and doing broadcasts to the child tabs with the location, but it seemed more complicated.
The problem with my current solution is that whenever i switch tab i lose the location i got in the previous and i cant use getlastknown location because i dont want the last location on start of the application.(does this make sense?) what can i do to solve this problem. a thing that will work better will be to have one variable that will hold the last location from the onLocationChanged and i can observe its changes and call methods onChange.
Android :: Looking For Volume Control Application

1) Change volumes, vibrate etc. at certain times
2) Lock the volume slider (I'm fed up constantly changing the ringer vol)
I have looked through loads of apps but haven't seen one that does both, and if I use 2 separate programs they fight with each other. I'd prefer one with a widget but not a deal breaker. I currently use Timeriffic for the volume settings/timing and Volume Locker for the locking.

Oct 25, 2010I went through a dozen of websites and apps description on the net to find a tutorial or explanation about how to install and setup an android app to control your pc remotely (gmote, phonemypc, rdp,). But without success. Is there any (complete and working) tutorial somewhere?
The problems & open topics are:
- usually if you have XP home you are stuck because there is no remote desktop (only for XP professional and upper versions). Nevertheless, when reading comments of people who have tried one of these apps, it looks like that a lot of XP home users have successfully installed the app. How? Mystery.
- the IP address: there are either tutorials with an 198.168.x.x IP address or with an Y.Y.Y.Y IP.
If you have an 198. IP, then you are local and probably by WiFi. What is the point of using WiFi at home to control your PC? Are you too lazy to stand up and go to it?
And if you use a "showmyip.com" website to get your network IP, the apps (sofar for me) could never connect to the server on the PC with this IP. So does anyone know how to solve this point? (ports are open, no firewall issue). Finally I need an install tutorial to be able to control my PC with an app (free possibly) with detailed steps and IP/setup examples.

Aug 5, 2012Is there a way to control which application send audio to Bluetooth and which sent to system speaker?
I have a Bluetooth car kit that is paired with my Samsung Galaxy SII phone (ICS 4.0.3) and any audio that is played on the phone (messages, phone calls, media, etc) it's sent to the car kit.
This is very annoying, because if I listen to the car radio and the phone receive a message, the sound is sent to the car kit, resulting in a interruption of around 10 seconds, only for transmitting the ring of the message.
I want to have only the phone calls and the media player audio passed to the car kit through the Bluetooth and to block any other audio notifications (and to let them play through the phone speaker).
Is there is any way to control what is sent to Bluetooth, or what application can send audio to the Bluetooth?
