I have an instrumentation test case that is waiting for an incoming call. I would like to abort this test case after some time from outside of this test case. Is there any argument to "adb shell am instrument" command that will stop the on going instrument test case?

I am now trying to pass a property value argument to my instrumentation test runner, something equivalent to the eclipse vm argument -Dcom.myApplication.myProperty="String" The value ("String") of a property (com.myApplication.myProperty) must be defined in the command line. I tried to bend my command line to make this work, changing it for example into :

We are currently working on an instrumentation test suite which runs on our build server, but while the tests pass on a dev machine using a normal Android emulator, the builds fail on the build server since there we only run a headless emulator with the -no-window flag.The failure occurs when trying to invoke the InstrumentationTestCase.sendKeys() method to programatically open the options menu.We also tried to let the instrumentation test app and the app under test share the same Linux user ID using android:sharedUserId and run in the same process (android:process -- we weren't sure if that was already the case), but still no luck. Does this mean it's currently impossible to run instrumentations which contain key events on a headless emulator, or are we missing something?

After following some instructions on Diego Torres blog I am able to test my classes using the regular Eclipse JUnit test-runner, however I also want to be able to run my unit tests from within the emulated android environment. For now this should make no real difference since the classes I am working on do very basic numerical or networking tasks, but obviously anything which involves the UI or Android API specific functions can only ever be tested on the emulator.
I set up a new run configuration of type AndroidJUnitTest wich uses the ndroid.test.InstrumentationTestRunner, however whenever I fire up the test I get the following error in the console:

</Lists> the represents more note data as attributes that aren't important to question.I use a SAX parser to parse the document and only implement the startElement and 'endElement' methods of the HandlerBase to handle Note and List nodes.However, In some cases the files can be very large and take some time to process. I'd like to be able to abort the parsing process at any time (i.e. user presses cancel button).The best way I've come up with is to throw an exception from my startElement method when certain conditions are met (i.e. boolean stopParsing is true).Is there a better way to do this?I've always used DOM style parsers, so I don't fully understand the SAX parser.One final note, I'm running this on Android, so I will have the Parser running on a worker thread to keep the UI responsive. If you know how I can kill the thread safely while the parser is running that would answer my question as well.

I am using a DefaultHttpClient and a ThreadSafeClientConnManager to share the httpClient across threads. That part is working well. However, when I execute an HttpPost in one thread, and call httpPost.abort() from another. It does not return immediately and continues blocking until the socket timeout is reached in most cases. If I were within the main application, I know I could just place the file in the assets directory and use getResources().getAssets().open(sourceFile).However, this API appears to be unavailable from the ActivityInstrumentationTestCase2 class.Is there an easy way to copy a file over from the testing PC, or should I just keep a fresh copy of a test fixture on the device and copy it over a temporary file?

Google writes about a unit test. Is this really a unit test? A Unit test will not integrate all classes and will not test in his context. So my opinion is it is not a Unit Test but an Integration Test.

However, I'm having trouble finding the menu that will launch any one of these activities from the ApiDemos application. This is what I want to do: My actual test is an apk file on android device, and I write a TestCase or some instrumentation for that which runs on host side. I trigger the test using adb commands or some IDE.I am able to refer to some examples which does above.Now what I want to know is any way of getting results back using any api available in TestCase or such class.This result can be any string value or an object too.
1. can I use TestResult for this purpose ? I expect it ot be similar to function calland return value from function.i.e. on completion of test I should get back the result in a structured way probably defined by me.Is this possible at all.
2. or return value is always going to be put to stdout? or logcat?
3.how do I parse and collect stdout or logcat prints into a file?

I have separated java code from Android code and have two projects. Android dependent on Java project. Now i want to get the memory trace of the Java project on Android. For that I have created Androd Junit Project implementing Android Instrumentation, and a dummy android project dependent on my actual java project.(as I only want to get memory trace of java project on android).Problem is when I execute Android Junit project, and give a reference of dummy project removing java project dependency, all tests(dummy) run fine.But when I run junit project, with dummy android proj keeping dependency on java project, my application crashes.I get an error message like : "Process crash" not getting any error message in logcat. No clue whats wrong with code.Any help is highly needed.
