Android :: How To Play Audio Files At Phone Volume Level / Not Speaker Volume

Nov 22, 2010

I'm writing an Android application that plays back voice mails using Media Player, which are just WAV files that have been sent to the device. When I play the file, it's played on the device's speaker, or else it plays through headphones if they're plugged in. What I want to do is play the file so that it sounds to the user as if it's at the same volume level as a normal phone call. Is there a way to route playback so that the file is played through the phone's ear piece instead of out of the speaker?

HTC Incredible :: New Car Bluetooth Pairs For Audio / Not For Phone

Aug 24, 2010

I just got a 2011 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport. One of the features it has is hands free calling with controls built in to the steering wheel. Another feature is bluetooth streaming audio. One of the first things I did when the car finally came in was to pair through the stereo so I could listen to pandora without having to use the AUX jack.To use the hands free phone system, there seems to be a separate pairing process activated through the steering wheel controls. It mostly walks you through the process, but once it gets to the actual process of pairing it continually says "searching..." until it times out. This is all slightly frustrating as the audio part seemed to work without a hitch. Even more frustrating, I've gotten responses from subaru forums saying that people with the EVO 4G didn't seem to have an issue getting either to work.

One thing I will note is that the icon next to the entry for the car in my bluetooth paired device listing appears to just be the earphones. When I plug in headphones with a microphone, I get an icon that reflects that. Here are the things I'm going to try next:start over and pair the phone first delete entry on my DINC for my jawbone headset (probably won't need that anymore anyways)

HTC Incredible :: 2.2 - Root - No Audio From Internal Speaker On Phone

Aug 4, 2010

Just put the latest ROM on my phone last night and rooted. I was all excited adding my apps back and setting the phone up that I neglected to test the phone.

I received a phone call today and couldn't hear anything. Like the person on the other end muted their phone. Now the kicker, if I put the phone on Speakerphone I can hear the caller just fine (as fine as pre 2.2). I looked around and haven't been able to find any reference to this.

Android :: AMR Audio Files To WAV/MP3

Jan 20, 2010

I've recorded audio in my Android application in its AMR format and I'd like to convert these to something that I can more easily use, such as WAV or MP3.

I've found some online instructions for this, for instance: http://www.aquarionics.com/2004/08/04/how_to_convert_amr_files_to_mp3/

which say to start with the 3GPP reference solutions to convert AMR to WAV, and then use sox and lame from there.

I compiled this code and tried to convert my AMR file, but it seg faults. I think this is because Android's AMR files are wrapped in a 3GP container. There is some code online about how to unwrap the AMR files (http://www.benmccann.com/dev-blog/extracting-amr-audio-from-android-3gp-files/), but I can't seem to get it to work and it seems like a lot of extra trouble just to get the audio from these files.

Android :: How To Play Audio Files One After Other

Jul 20, 2010

I have multiple audio files in the assets directory of my application. When the user clicks a button I want to play those files in a certain order, one after the other. There shouldn't be any noticeable lag between the audio files. What is the best approach to achieve this? I am thinking of using MediaPlayer objects and OnCompletionListeners. But, that would mean I have to create a lot of OnCompletionListeners because I need to know every time which audio file is next. Am I missing something or is there a better approach?

I'm using SoundPool class to play the files in my application. I'm hoping to put this application on the android market place. Can one of you suggest what is the best way to store so many audio files? Will my application be scalable? Is wav or ogg format better approach instead of mp3? Please let me know.

HTC Desire :: Don't Put Audio Files In Media Player

Jul 23, 2010

I'm still trying to get to grips with the folder/filing system of the Desire's SD card. I have yet to put any of my own MP3's onto the phone but have put on a few short audio clips which I created at work. These were on the phone mainly so I could transport them home but I also occasionally play them from the phone. However I don't want them cropping up amongst music in the music player app/widget, but it seems no matter where I put them on the SD card they appear. The only exception is if I put them in media => ringtones which isn't ideal. Are there any other places where i can put them where they won't be found by the media player?

Android :: Audio Files Return 0 From MediaPlayer.getDuration()

Apr 8, 2009

Some audio files return 0 from MediaPlayer.getDuration(), even though they're perfectly valid files that play ok and that players on Windows can find the duration of. There seem to be two different cases here: certain file types such as .wma and .wav always return 0 duration, and others only do so sometimes. I haven't been able to find any pattern in the latter case, but it does seem consistent per file. The music player displays 0:00 duration for these, so it's not just my code.
