General :: How To Read / Write Ext3 File System Image In Ubuntu

Feb 18, 2012

I developed a cramfs rom for the np7 after user dochoppy found root for the nextbook premium 7 tablet, but he then converted to ext3 which because its packed with features will be more popular. So I am trying to edit his ext3 rom in Ubuntu 11.10 and here is what I do:

1. Copy and paste system.img to desktop
2. Create a folder called system on desktop
3. In command prompt:
cd ~/Desktop
Sudo mount -t ext3 -o loop system.img system
(Asks for pw)
4. Doc said something about only being able to edit as root, so after some Googling I find out how to create a program that grants root.
5. (Open "run as" program) then I type "nautilus /home"
(Asks for pw)
6. Navigate to mounted system and I have read/write privileges (but only in this window)
7. View the system mount properties, and it says I have 14.2 mb free space on device
8. Delete files throughout the system folder to make room (but when I refresh properties, free space increase doesn't show)
9. Try to add my own files after deleting some others, ans rather than using the increased space, it just fills the fourteen megs before telling me "device is out of memory "

why is the system not physically making the proper system increase and decreases.

Uploading External Image From Website?

May 16, 2014

My webpage has images that upload to the phone when the page is viewed and dropped when the page is closed. I do this to reduce mobile device memory requirements. I use a path that points at the image location and name.

Sadly image does not load on Android devices. However everything works fine on blackberry, i-phone, i-pad etc. Usually Apple is the most restrictive device.

What is different about Android that prevents the external images loading?

Android :: Read An Image - Just Wrote?

Jul 20, 2010

So, largely for debugging purposes, I want to be able to write an image at arbitrary points in my code, and look at it later. I figured this would be easiest if I just wrote a my bitmap to a file and read it back later, but I cannot seem to figure out where to find the file after I write it, or how to open an image that is not in res/drawable with a corresponding handle in R.

HTC EVO 4G :: SD Card Read Only / Recovery Image Gone / Cannot Reflash

Nov 11, 2010

My Evo is rooted, but I have lost my recovery image. Attempts to re flash recovery via ROM Manager and ADB both failed. I now have a task bar message saying the card is mounted read only. I put it in an adapter, plugged into my PC and ran Check Disk, which appeared to restore R/W status. I then put it back in the phone, rebooted and tried to flash a new image with ROM Manager, I have the read only issue again. I still have root, root apps still receive SU permissions, but I have no nand access and cannot re flash CWM or Amon.

Change APP Name From External Text (XML) File

May 10, 2012

I have an APP which I'll use for more than one customer. For every customer this app will be with different name. To change the name I must have a compiler(like Eclipse), open project, open strings.xml, change the app_name, save it and export again the .apk file.

I don't want to do this every time. I just want to do this from external config file which go together with the .apk file. n In this case I don't need to export the app again from compiler. Just start the app, reads that file, see name changed and install the app with the new name.

P.S - I have already checked the example in the API demos where an animated gif is read as an object of type Movie. I don't want to read it in as a movie file.

Read From File Then Convert To Int

Aug 17, 2012

I am having some difficulties developing my first app. My problem is a bit too specific so I couldn't find if any1 else had the same problem.

After writing a number as a string into memory and reading the said string from memory, I cannot convert it back into a number.

For example, the string written in is 1234, when I retrieve it and write it onto the app, it still shows up as 1234.

When I convert this string to an int using Integer.parseint(), it gives me an error. Then I tried converting a String 123 thats just declared, it works perfectly.

I assume it is the retrieving part that messed up the string and made it unable to be turned into an int. or how to store numbers in memory in other ways?

heres the part of the code that retrieves the string and convert it

FileInputStream fIn = null;
InputStreamReader isr = null;
String data = null;
try{
