Sprint HTC Hero :: Slide To Unlock Disabled
Nov 13, 2009
just noticed this today, I have no idea how this happened and can't figure out how to change it back. When I wake my phone up by hitting the power button, the slide to unlock screen no longer shows up, I'm directly at my home screen. I didn't do this on purpose and can't figure out how to get the lock screen back, searches aren't helping either.

I run my own website over ssl. I haven't bought a trusted certificate, but have generated my own root cert. From this one I have generated various other certificates for my servers and clients.
When I install those certificates on my stock Galaxy Nexus or my CM9 Touchpad, ICS tell me that I must set a pin/pw/pattern to unlock my device. It seems there isn't anyway to store certificates without enabling one of these unlock method.
Once the certificates are installed there is no way to reenable slide to unlock without removing the certificates from the device.
I don't want that. I have generated my own certificates and I have full control on them at the server side. If my device get lost or stollen, I just need to revoke them, and I can do this easily. So this type of security is useless for me.
I would like to be able to use slide to unlock or even "no lock screen" while keeping my certificates installed on my device.

I would like to Remove the Slide to Unlock screen. When I receive a call, I would like to have the Accept / Decline option as discussed here:
Accept / Decline - But not always on incoming calls
Is it possible to disable the Slide to Unlock screen as discussed here:
Slide to Unlock Disabled
If yes, what is the procedure to disable / turn off / remove the Slide-to-Unlock screen?

how many times do I have to do that little disable described in the 2.1 root thread? Do I do it every time I redo my OS or just the one time that I've rooted? When I did the input's in command prompt, I was in the actual OS and I didn't receive any errors, but it didn't confirm that I disabled them or anything.

My husband was playing around with my Android 4.2 tablet and somehow disabled the slide to next page feature and apparently turned on the voice only (not sure if that is what it is called but it says every movement that you make...back, home, you have 10 new messages, etc....SO annoying). I also have to double click to get to anything...SO annoying. I know I have to get to settings, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get to the second page of apps (where the settings is). It won't slide because it's set to double click I guess...no clue!

I got my phone back late oct, and i use it unrooted, all the time, I can make calls very simply. with minor lag here and there. But anytime my phone is asleep, and i try to answer any incoming call, either Google voice or direct, I can't slide the screen to answer. and none of the buttons do anything and the call goes missed.
it's really annoying. my wife has the same phone and hers eloquently answers calls. after a few moments, the display changes to show the call is missed. and i can operate the phone again - usually with the dismay of having to call the person back, at the same time while they are leaving voicemail - NOT being able to answer the phone when it rings is really kinda a critical problem for me. Anyone familiar with this issue, and would like to take a stab at helping me fix it. I'm willing to wipe and restore to defaults just to make it work right.

When my phone is on for a while, the screen times out (Screen Time Out - depending upon settings). If I hit the red button on the right, the screen lights up, but I'm not yet at the Scene pages. I have to "Slide down" to get to main scene desktop. If I have my Security set to require a pattern, I will have to enter a pattern. For purposes of this question - assume there is No Security Pattern set. Hence, the slide down goes directly to the Scene desktop.
Screen Timeout
Menu --> Settings --> Sound & Display --> Screen Timeout -->
Various options including:
* 15-seconds
* 30-seconds
* 1 minute
* 2 minutes
* 10 minutes
* Never Timeout
If I set the Screen Timeout to 1 minute, it'll go dim, and when I hit the red button, it will require the Slide Down to get to the Scene Desktop. If I set the Screen Timeout to "Never timeout", it'll never go dim, but this will use more battery power. Once the Screen is Timed Out, it requires the Slide-Down feature to get to the desktop. When receiving an incoming call, the Slide-Down feature is required to answer the call when the phone is Timed Out.
Question
Is it possible to avoid this Slide Down altogether? It seems the only way to do this is to set the Menu --> Settings --> Sound & Display --> Screen Timeout --> Never timeout
I don't want to use "Never timeout" because this will use more battery power.I find it annoying when I receive an incoming call, if the screen is Timed Out, I am required to use the Slide Down menu to answer the call. Problem is, the moment I do this, it answers the call. There is no: Answer / Decline option available unless the screen is in non-Timed Out mode. I want to be able to answer my phone and completely avoid having to deal with this Slide-Down feature when answering incoming calls. I don't even see the picture of the person in my contact until I slide this down. It would be nice if I could avoid the Slide-down altogether. I would like to have it set such that when the phone rings, I can get immediately to the Answer / Decline option.

A problem that I'm having is that I can't jump through the address book (people) by selecting a letter, I have to manually scroll through the entire address book to get to a phone number or contact that I want. On my old phone, there was an alphabetical slide bar, so that I could jump to any letter in my contacts. Now, when I want to call someone with a name starting with the letter Z, I have to manually scroll through my entire address book to get to that name.

Is there any way to slide between screens while keeping my yahoo email, instant messaging, etc open. Instead of having to click on the home key and choosing the individual app?
I've chosen the social scene in my settings because it leaves a page open for IM & email but I'm wondering if its possible to customize a NONrooted phone to keep more "pages/screens" open, like facebook kept open or the web browser?

A lot of people want to get rid of it, but I really liked it, I had the instinct before the Evo, so I got used to it. How can I get it back!? One more question, I accidently added a few words to the word list, how can I remove the words?

You know when you turn off the screen. The slide down to unlock feature, there's NO way to set a delay for this to come on? What I would like would be to remove that slide down to unlock feature and just have the pattern lock on (with a delay option). But i hate having the slide down to unlock, and then unlock again with a pattern. No way to 1) delay the slide to unlock feature or 2)remove the slide to unlock and only have the pattern lock working?(with a delay feature if possible,say only show up after 2hours has passed) My windows mobile phone had this simple option built in.

After some 10 days with my Desire, I am close to getting it 'just right'...
However, I would like to configure the phone to use only the hardware button and the lock pattern in order to use the phone, and bypass the 'slide down' process.
I have tried various permutations and addons but to no avail ...
So to recap:
1 - press upper hardware button
2 - enter lock pattern

I think more people will see this in the Droid forum than in the software forum, plus, it's a major complaint among Droid users that they have to press that unlock button, and THEN still slide to unlock.Here's the app (myLock for Android):myLock for android It's pretty awesome. Uncheck run in foreground mode if you don't want the icon in the notification bar.It also forgoes the slider if you slide open your keyboard. Notice that if your keyboard is a bit loose, this could cause it to unlock in your pocket.

Is there an option or app to disable the slide to unlock but keep the pattern lock (or PIN lock on Froyo)? It seems kind of redundant to have both slide and pattern unlocks. I have Android 2.2 and was hoping this would be "fixed" with the upgrade.
