i am using handcent sms and when i hit to compose new message and then type a name, some peoples numbers come up in the format xxx-xxx-xxxx, but others come up. how come this is and how do i make them all come up with dashes?

After one of the recent handcent updates, I entered a number to send a text message. This number was not in my contacts. I entered the number, and it changed the number at the top to a persons name, who isn't in my contacts, and does not have the same number. They are my friend on facebook however. Is handcent linking with facebook? How do I turn this off? It's telling me this conversation is with the wrong person as of now, and I don't know if it's even sending to the right number.

When the address book was transfered over to my Hero, i received 3 to 4 different fields per person! How can i fix tihs without having to manually go in and delete 3 of the 4 fields and enter email, cell numbers to one of the contact?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI think this is a Handcent issue because I'm not really seeing it in the default app. For some reason I get multiple numbers for a contact when sending a SMS- the same number! I have one contact that when I select to send an SMS to, I get 7 options to choose to send to, and guess what, all 7 are the same phone number. And its not a format issue, it still duplicates if the number has brackets over the area code or just dashes. Not sure what to do and when I go into the individual contact (using People) the number is only listed once.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMe and my trusty G1 have recently moved out of the US. Im running CM's latest, and just like the stock ROM, phone numbers stored in the phone have the xxx-xxx-xxxx US format. This format does not apply to most countries outside of the US. So here when someone calls (or when im trying to add a new contact) phone numbers tend to look weird since phone numbers here have an XX-XXX-XXX format (8 digits total), and so they end up showing as XXX-XXX-XX, which is just confusing.
So in short, is there any way to stop the dashes from showing up in the call log/ caller id/adding new contact form??
My apologies if this has been discussed before, I searched through a number of threads but didnt find any answers.Just got my Hero for xmas and have been playing around with it, and wanted to know if there is any way to assign several emails/phone numbers to a single contact entry?

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded the new updated version (complete with adverts)of Handcent to try it out as I hearing such glowing comments on it. When I open the programme I see all the threads but all I have is the mobile numbers and No Contact names associated with them.
Could someone kindly tell me what I have to do to get the names up please. I have been looking through the settings but cant see anything, do I need to make sure the stock messaging app is unticked first to get the names to appear?
I have an issue that I assume is consistent with all Android 2.1 phones. However, for consistency's sake: I have a HTC Hero.Some of my Contacts who are linked to Facebook have duplicate numbers (because one begins with a '1' and the other does not, or they are separated by '.' instead of '-')Also, some of my contacts list fake or old numbers on Facebook and my phone wants to call them or text those by default. (or sometimes on accident - human error).I wish I could have an option to edit these or mark them as "not shown" on my phone so I don't have to double check which number I am calling, texting or emailing to make sure Im using the right number or email address.The only option I've found is to remove the Facebook link, which is a lame workaround and leads me to forget birthdays.

View 19 Replies View RelatedI've had my Hero for about 4 months now, and other than the battery issue (I do use it a lot) I'm pretty satisfied. However since Thursday last week, I've had the SAME phone number call me, have someone jabber at me, and then hang up! I looked up the area code, and it's in Jamaica! Today has been the worst, I've had 5 calls from that same number. Frankly its really started to get annoying. I called Sprint, and asked customer care if they can block that number from the account. And they can't do that. Apparently blocking that number is an infringement on their rights. On my Hero, I've been able to find that I can just push all those calls from that number to my voice mail, but I can't block it from my line altogether. Anyone else having the same or similar issue that has come up with another option?
View 13 Replies View RelatedIve noticed that when i shut my phone off and turn it back on after this recent update from hand cent sms, i loose the hand cent icon and it is replaced with a red x instead. has anyone else had this issue? the only way Ive been able to fix it is with a un install and then reinstall which is a royal pain in the ass given that i don't restart my phone very often i still have to customize all over again.

But for some wierd reason, I chose to use the stock SMS the other day, and realized the lag was greatly reduced. Now, has anyone else experience this also?by the way, I am using Better Keyboard rather then using the stock keyboard.Besides the landscape typing lag, Handcent was a cool SMS App. I liked it a lot more than ChompSMS.
View 14 Replies View RelatedTho it seems the update did fix the problem with the native app, Handcent is still the way to go, at least for me. Seems the native app can't handle more than a 1 meg pic file and since I often include a pic in a text, taken from the Hero its of no use to me. Handcent will reduce the pic file automatically which is a nice feature. Also I refuse to lower the setting from the Hero just to accommodate the native app. Just my thought on that issue.

ChompSMS seems to do more for the battery(in my case at least). Displaying a 19% awake time, compared to a 100% awake time with my handcent SMS, still haven't figured that out, anyone else getting similar results?
ChompSMS started bugging on me not recognizing the orientation of my phone? Uninstalled, installed and reset my phone seems to be working fine, Handcent however was stable and solid the whole time.
ChompSMS takes up LESS memory. With only Screebl Lite and Advanced Task Killer up I was seeing 53 available memory with HandcentSMS installed compared to 81 with ChompSMS installed, someone care to confirm this?
All this leads me to believe that ChompSMS is the better alternative messaging app based on statistics, but of course personal preference should be considered too. Would like to see more people compare and contrast these two and post results also.
I am currently using Handcent. Is the the best third party sms app out that can also do mms?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have recently upgraded from an Samsung Instinct to an HTC Hero. I am currently on my second phone. The first one had a major OS glitch. As the service tech stated it was possessed. I am into my new replacement for about 2 weeks now. Currently, I am having horrible luck with the phone. The keyboard lags, the phone auto dials random numbers while scrolling the phone book and today while talking to my wife it made a conference call to my wife. Also the weather feature on the clock won't update the location unless I manually refresh it. These are just a few of the things I have noticed. I currently am running advanced app killer to save on battery life and the phone is up to date on the software. My brother has an HTC Touch through T-Mobile and it rocks and I have other friends with android phones and they don't experience the same issues.

Stock messaging app just says "Loading...." forever when I try to view an old txt.
I backed up from old sms and mms from Fresh 1.1 and restored them in Fresh 2.1.1.
