Samsung Galaxy I7500 :: Upgrading Firmware - PC Not Recognizing Phone
Sep 15, 2010
I just bought a Samsung Galaxy i7500 with Bell mobility and I am trying to figure all these threads out and how to root, and how to upgrade my firmware, but the biggest hurdle I have come to is my pc will not recognize my phone as a 'phone' it only sees the internal sd card and the external card. I have downloaded three different versions of the samsung PC suite, and everyone will not recognize it. Am I missing an important driver? All I am doing is connecting via USB, and on my phone I choose to mount USB so I can access my sd cards on my PC.

I just received my phone today. Wifi doesn't work - it just says "remembered" but disconnected. I've read a lot of threads with how to upgrade the firmware, but they have a lot of terminology I don't know at all. Is there a guide or tutorial for upgrading the firmware?
1.) Model Number ? Galaxy
2.) Firmware Version ? 1.5
3.) Baseband Version ? I7500JVG4
4.) Kernel Version ? 2.6.27 wootae77@SE-S409 #1
5.) Build Number ? 76XXCSDCBALUM6375
I bought the phone on Expansys, and they shipped it from the US to Canada (where I live). I'm using Fido as the carrier. There was no software (e.g. CD) that came with the delivery. So what are the steps in upgrading to the latest firmware?

I have Samsung firmware version DF29 on my Galaxy and Im wondering is this the most up to date firmware or should I be upgrading to something else? Its the firmware that came on the phone and if its not the latest, what should I be running? I prefer a firmware thats been tested and known to work flawlessly. I dont really want to use any firmware in delopment stages etc.

I'm running galaxo 1.6.2 which i installed on my phone running firmware XII5. Since the update I've noticed my phone very laggy and getting FC's all the time. From doing some reading, shouldnt the update have installed JC6 ? Is it my current firmware version the reason for my phones issues ? Do I need to Odin JC6 ?

If I upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6 using this method Flash rom Galaxo 1.6.1 - Installation on Samsung Galaxy I presume I will loose all my apps and settings.
Currently on O2 in the UK so i'm worried about losing message center numbers and APN names etc etc.
Is there a way to backup the phones settings and apps then restore them after i've flashed to 1.6?

Alright this may have been asked a few times, or maybe it could not of been asked. I just can't find the thread related to answering this question.
Okay so my question is, can I flash Galaxo 1.6.2 or GAOSP "without" ODIN flashing or updating my firmware to 1.6? and not then what consequences would occur if I don't flash firmware update before GALAXO 1.6.2 flash. My phone firmware version is I7500ZHJA1 and I believe that is the latest firmware for my region which is still Android 1.5.

I have an unlocked 02-germany Galaxy on Orange UK. This was all news to me today that the Galaxy users aren't entitled to Over-The-Air updates nor is it apparently a "Google" phone in the same way the HTC G1 is. (Samsung, when are we getting Donut?). I'm not clear what the distinction is. Maybe someone can tell me. This is a big let down to be honest, I wouldn't have probably bought the device if I knew this. Even app updates nots don't come through and my bro has been showcasing Donut on his G1 (also on Orange UK) all morning to make matters worse. Any news on when we get donut now? Is this the only non-OTA updated Android device. How does one confirm this? I presume the Magic is however.

There were reports recently about new firmware for the phone. I7500xxik1 Are there any news about this?
I am still sitting on the fence trying to decide whether to get Galaxy/Spica or wait until the new htc devices (from the recent leaked list) are released.

Even though i`m disappointed with samsung for not providing the firmware updates but i am happy to search for new firmwares and know things on how to root my phone or actually what is rooting. I am able to learn my phone instead of just using. Even though i use a lot of time on it but i dont think it is waste.

Is it my imagination or does the radio in this version have lower reception than previous versions? It never was a stellar performer in this area, my G1 sitting next to my Galaxy would have much better reception (I'm talking like -80something dbm vs -110ish dbm- btw I pulled those numbers out of my a$$ cause I don't remember what exactly they were but there was that big a disparity when I looked right after I got my Galaxy). Now I'm having signal issues where I didn't before. Previously in my basement I'd get 1-2 bars of signal with edge reception (I only get 3G upstairs with my Galaxy). I installed I5 firmware yesterday and hdblog's galaxhero today after using H2 for AGES. Tonight I'm getting 0-1 bars, with very frequent full disconnects with no reception at all. ><

So i've persuaded o2 to have a look at my phone in the hope of replacing it. First they've asked me to reset the phone using *2767*3855#. If i have the same problems (dialpad not working during calls) then i've to return it. If their engineer cannot fix it, i'll (hopefully) get a replacement. So i'm running Galaxo with JC6, what should I do before returning the phone? I'm thinking Nandroid and then copy everything to my hard disk and remove that from my phone. Then use ODIN to install the latest official firmware (which is?). Then I run the reset command they gave me. That about right or should I do something else?

Has ANy one tried opening Samsung Galaxy i7500?, I have chnaged to galaxo 1.6.4. and running it happily downloading stuff and all and all of sudden battery discharged to the point that it would not get charged any more, Insitailly I thought I fried my battery with excess charging, hence I looked for batteries, fortunately in my THIRD world county India, there is no battery in stock at service stations. Hence I needed to wait for 5 days. Now remember I said fortunately.. whyy....cause then i tried restore the old OS, which Galaxo promptly helped me with, Now i tried charging again, but NO way, but the phone was getting heated up like it was on stove or something and it again stopped charging, So I understood its not the battery but the motherboard which has problem...
Now my cell is still in warranty, so before giving it to service station, I want to open it up and see whats what.. I got the manual already.it seems pretty simple( I have disassembled AT& T's Tilt, Nokai 6630, Nokia 6600, and many small others as well) but before that I would like to ask people has any one done it before ? anything I should be looking out for?

I have an issue with BT on my Galaxy, it somehow gets stuck and forgets the settings:
- If I go out of range with my BT headset, and than back in range, sometimes a single click on headset button will make it reconnect with the phone, as it should.
- But, sometimes it will not reconnect (even by manually reconnecting from the phone WirelessBluetooth menu), and also it cannot "Scan for devices" - a click on that will not do anything, the phone does not scan for other devices, even though BT seems to be on.
- If I restart BT at this point, it will forget its "Device name" and say "Galaxy" in that field. Also cannot search for devices.
- If I restart it again, the "Device name" will be "No name set, using account name"; scanning will not work. Further BT restarts keep it in this state, only restart of the phone helps.
I'm on JB2 firmware.

The Samsung Galaxy K4 firmware update includes a new virtual keyboard alternative, named "Samsung keyboard", in addition to the stardard "Android keyboard". (Sorry, I have yet to succeed in taking screen shots; I will post some if I find any.) What are your thoughts on this? There are a bunch of different layouts ("Qwerty", "12 keypad", "20 keypad"), all accessible from a popup menu. All layouts seem to be missing a shift key (relying instead of a popup selection for "abc"/"Abc"/"ABC"/"Numeric and symbols"/"Emoticons"), and there seems to be no press-for-variants feature to access characters with umlauts. You can set the keyboard language. Available languages are: Automatic (based on carrier?), English, German, Dutch, Polish, French, Czech, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese.
All layouts use T9 prediction, and the dictionary adapts to the selected language. Also, it appears that the dictionary is not shared with the Andoid user dictionary (accessible within Settings->Locale). I like that they've done it. It shows that Samsung have not completely given up support for this device, that they do have developers assigned to it. The keys are nice and large, and they've made good use of the landscape format. I don't know if they are using a context-sensitive key-enlarging-function like HTC have, but my typo rate seems to have decreased. I find the lack of a shift key very inconvenient, especially when entering passwords. Having to open a popup to enter a capital is two, three, maybe four additional taps -- they could have made much better use of long-press and off-key swipes. The lack of the press-for-variants feature means that, if you require umlauts, you must either switch to the appropriate language or, if it doesn't exist, use another keyboard. Since none of the Scandinavian languages are supported, I cannot use this keyboard.
