View 1 Replies View RelatedI've become a bit confused about the X10's camera. When I first bought mine, I could have sworn the camera had a "multi-shot" setting, but I can no longer find it. Google results show up a couple of old reviews online which claim the X10 has multi shot capabilities, but I can find nothing on any spec sheets.

My friend has a galaxy S, but he says he does not have any apps taking advantage of the camera. Are there any uses of that front facing camera, or its just there for show or for people to snoop on to you?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm considering getting the Galaxy S, but the only drawback I can see right now if the absence of a flash for the camera. I know flashes on camera phones aren't all that great, but they do help in many situations. I read in a couple places that this phone has a night mode negating the need for the flash. So far I have not been able to find any sample photos taken in low light conditions, say a portrait of friends in a dark restaurant, or at a party. Can those of you who have the phone post some sample shots in these conditions?

Everything else in 1.6.3.3 seems to be behaving quite well for me, even taking pictures.Haven't had the pixelated or no image thing at all.Is there something I am missing that I could try ?
View 14 Replies View RelatedGalaxy S on 3 with stock 2.1 ROM. When I'm listening to music on the default music player and activate the camera the music stops. If it paused I wouldn't be so bothered but it actually puts you back to that start of the track. A real pain if you're 45 mins into a podcast. Is this normal Android behaviour or Galaxy S specific? Or worse - specific to me?

View 10 Replies View RelatedIn my activity I show the camera preview on a surfaceView. It works perfectly fine on Nexus One and HTC Desire, but on Samsung Galaxy S I see strange lines, weird proportions and everything three times. see the Screenshot below.
The issue seems to be similar to this one: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2053440/camera-preview-on-androd-strange-lines-on-1-5-version-of-sdk but none of the comments there helped. I tried to swap height, width for the camera parameters, but not much of a difference.
(Side note: my activity is always in landscape mode, fixed. I have that fix in my manifest as screenOrientation parameters, in case that matters somehow).

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe camera on my Samsung Galaxy SII has been faulty for a long time now. I was hoping that upgrading to Android 4.1 would re-install the firmware for the camera but this wasn't the case.
As you can see from the attached screen shots, the camera will fail on opening. On some very rare occasions, I'd be able to open the camera, snap a picture, before it would crash. This shows that it is not the hardware that is faulty, but the firmware instead. Usually on these occasions, the screen will display what the camera is pointing at (as it should) before glitching, showing vividly coloured lines and patches instead, before crashing. On top of this, any flashlight apps that utilise the flash of the camera will function for a short time before they too crash.
Since updating to 4.1, I can open the camera but it will just hang, there won't be an image on screen, just black, and there are also no error messages. I then cannot back out of the camera, without using the home button and closing it in the task manager (with a great delay between pressing the home button and the camera actually minimising).
I was hoping that there is a firmware fix for this, as I don't want to have to go and buy a new phone for merely faulty hardware, when the camera itself is fully functional.
As title - having tried everything I could find already suggested, I've completely run out of options. I'm unable to set the picture size taken by the camera on the Samsung Galaxy.
I don't set preview size anywhere and I've tried the ShutterCallback trick. On checking the camera parameters before and after attempting to change the size, I get the correct results - the camera *reports* that its size has now been changed... however, the size of the byte array I'm receiving in the onPictureTaken() callback is only consistent with the camera's default (enormous) image - and forces an OutOfMemoryError when I attempt to decode it into a bitmap!
It looks like I'm having a similar issue to this user: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa... - but unfortunately it looks like no solution was found then, either :
No matter what I do I cannot make the final camera image be smaller than the gigantic 5MP which effectively crashes the poor old BitmapFactory.
The ShutterCallback trick is in use. Does somebody have some other ideas?
Boy, it feels like going all the way back to J2ME.
Ive got the xperia x10 which I love now the battery problems are sorted but I've another upgrade due and had a quick play with the galaxy s today. Seemed pretty good but before deciding whether I should take it whats peoples opinions on the battery life and the camera? The battery on all my android phones hasn't been great but as long as I can happily get a day/day and half out of it with reasonable use i.e. bit of music, lot of texts, a little web and a few calls then id be happy with it. Also I notice the camera doesn't have a flash, what are the pics like people have been taking? I really liked the look and feel of phone but a little worried the amoled screen would drain the battery too much.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had my Samsung Galaxy S for a couple of weeks now, and the last time i took pictures with it was on 29th August. I tried the camera yesterday and got this message.
What happens is the camera app opens, and instantly displays this message and all you can do is click ok. When you do that, the app closes.
I tried many things, including trying to press other buttons quickly before the error message comes. I managed to switch to camcorder mode and even press the record button in that time, but all i got was video recording failed message.
I checked on the forums for people who had similar problems and here's a list of things i tried so far:
1- Uninstall Fring
2- Return to Factory Settings
3- Fully Recharge Phone
4- Take out battery, sim, external sd card, wait for 5 mins and restart
5- Take out external sd card altogether and restart
So far nothing has worked. I haven't dropped or hit the phone anywhere. It hasn't been in temperatures less than 10 degrees celcius or over 25.
I can't think of anything else to do really, other than calling up warranty line. The problem is i'm going on holiday soon and the only reason i wanted to get this phone before my previous contract ended was to be able to use the camera while on holiday and now all my plans have gone down the drain.
I even tried reinstalling fring and making a test call with it, and i can confirm my front facing camera is working fine. It's the one on the back that's not working.
I tried installing other applications as well which would use the phone's camera and every each of them force closed when i tried.
I can't send it off with warranty until i come back from holiday anyway, so maybe froyo would be rolled out by my provider by then... I wonder if that would fix things... But i thought returning to factory settings would have fixed it too, which it didn't...
A few weeks back, when I was considering to switch to Galaxo or not, we had a thread here mentioning an odd issue,
Every 3rd picture taken with the camera app would be bad (or just a dud).
At the time, I couldn't reproduce the issue and it didn't bother me. But, just today afternoon (and a bit early in the week), I encountered something similar - every other picture had a 50% chance of being bad (just blank). It got to the point that the camera was just un-usable. I spent a good bit of time investigating this and I think I have an explanation. But first, let me walk you through what I did.
By default, I keep my camera to take 5 Megapixel shots at "super fine" setting. With that, I couldn't take any good shots AT ALL. I reduced it to 1M and "normal" setting. Things were a bit better, in that now only every other shot was bad. But, at least I was able to use the camera.
I use 3 desktop screens filled with widgets. I disabled most of my widgets and reduced the number of screens to 2. (I'm running Drakaz's darksense theme for Galaxo 1.6.3 ). With this, the camera was MUCH better. In fact, I could take 5 shots continuously without any problems (testing at home).
In some ways, it looks like I was stretching the limits of my i7500 a bit too much and so, the camera just didn't work right, but I can live with fewer screens and fewer widgets.
I miss the Handcent SMS widget, but from what I observed, its too resource-intensive for my needs. The only widgets I use now are from "Jorte" , the organizer app (really good too!) and "SMS Im Away".
So, for those of you who need the camera in working order, consider disabling a few screens and widgets.
I, i am currently using Mustymod firmawre (v.3 ) I need bluetooth and camera and musty rom doesn't support it. So what is the latest stable firmware with bluetooth?

I was taking a walk and taking photos with my 2 month old galaxy s4. I have never had any issues with it. intill yesterday, I encountered a camera crash. I took out my camera, made a panorama, and then switched to auto mode and that's when my camera froze for like 30 seconds. after, it unfroze. I took a picture and the picture came out well accept the white black little horizontal lines on the top and bottom of the photo. after that I got worried so when I went back to the camera, it said the camera failed message and then it brought me to the home screen. after that, I accessed the camera again and everything was fine, the camera worked, accept the interface was frozen. I could not press the shutter button, gallery button, mode button, video button, etc. so I rebooted my phone and now the camera works perfectly. yesterday after the reboot I took pictures the whole day and It was perfect. today it is perfect too, no crashes. im just getting a little paranoid about why this happened and I am scared something is wrong with my phone as I worked and paid full price. everything is alright now im just wondering, was this a glitch in the software? did the camera crash because it was having a hard time that second to go back to auto mode from panorama mode? this is again, not happening any more but what was the message all about? how come it works now? is my phone alright?
