Motorola Milestone : Benchmark Results Stock 800mhz - 1000 Mhz

Jun 10, 2010

These benchmarks were taken with: Quadrant Standard

550 mhz Score: 351
800 mhz Score: 441
1000 mhz Score: 569

Thought that I share these incase someone was curious. I have a Android 2.1 Motorola Milestone. Its interesting to note that at 1000mhz when compared against the online database of benchmark results the Milestone placed higher than the Nexus 2.1. Though of course the nexus 2.2 still lead the charts.

Motorola Droid :: Quadrant Benchmark Sometimes Force Closes

Jul 27, 2010

I've been running BB V0.4 with chevy's no1 ULV 1.2Ghz kernel (mostly as an experiment). All my normal applications run flawlessly and the battery life has been good. No issues streaming video, running Pandora, playing 3D games, running SetCPU stress test. However, about every 4th time I run Quadrant, it force closes on the program startup.

This looks like a warning sign that I'm running right on the edge and will eventually have trouble with my normal applications as well. I haven't run Quadrant before using this new kernel. Is this a program that will sometimes force close even nothing is wrong? Also it only force closes if I haven't run it in a while. Once it is in memory I can rerun it many times with no force closes.

HTC Incredible : Quadrant Vs. Linpack / Dinc Vs. Fascinate?

Sep 27, 2010

OK, I got a BOGO for the Fascinate with my Wife. I'm currently using the Fascinate now and I'm not overly impressed.

I posted the original question on the Fascinate board, but I'd like more exposure to the Incredible members.

I like the looks and size of the Fascinate, but I'm not liking the slug feeling. Sill on the fence for the Samsung OS style. Some is good, some is in alot of need. It's behind HTC Sense for sure though.

General :: Samsung Galaxy S2 - Strange Android Icon Showing On Notification Area

Oct 21, 2012

today a strange icon started to show up in the notification area. It has no notification attached to it, restarting the device doesn't make it go away and neither am I aware of any app installed that could have caused this. Due to the resemblance the icon bears to the ICS logo, I thought it might be some system-based event (something like an android anniversary date or whatnot), yet it persisted through GMT midnight, which makes it seems less likely then it did when I found out. I tried an image-based search for any images and screenshots containing the said icon, but came out empty-handed. As Henzman said, it's the new icon of the Power Toggles app.

Samsung Fascinate :: Too Much Differentiation With Galaxy Models At Consumers Expense

Jun 30, 2010

Looks like all of the models have something good, but all have something missing. I appreciate differentiation, but this seems silly. Tmo gets 16gb built in, but no flash or FFC (not that I would us a FFC).Sprint gets a keyboard, but not the 16gb built in.Verizon's seems the weakest features of the litter in regards to built in memory (2 wimpy gigs)Best option to me would be the Sprint verison, but with 16gb built in. BTW, where is the flash for camera on the Tmo? Crazy.Samsung should change name to Silly sung. These differences would only be good for the consumer if on the same carrier and still options are too spread out. None of the devices have the complete feature set of the models. Makes zero sense to anyone but Samsung.

Samsung Captivate :: Froyo Quadrant Scores

Oct 12, 2010

I may be mistaken, but Froyo was available to Captivate users in the leaked JI6 firmware, yes? Well I'm wondering what your Quadrant scores are, running Froyo JI6, on an otherwise stock Captivate, meaning no lagfix. So here is why I'm asking, I read somewhere, can't remember the link, that Froyo is having some issues with the Hummingbird. Basically it offers no speed-boost at all to the Captivate.Froyo was expected to dramatically improve CPU scored on Quadrant. This video also has me worried, this guy in the video ran quadrant and got a score of 975...I already get 925 on my vibrant stock, running 2.1. Froyo is suppose to give us scores like 1800 without lagfix, NOT 975!

Samsung Fascinate :: Testing GPS Satellite Usage On Fascinate - Use Wireless Networks - Off

Sep 8, 2010

First of all congratulations everybody. I am soooo excited for each and every one of you. Seriously, I have a big smile on my face because I know that excitement, that joy you all are feeling. You won't be putting your phone down for days, I GUARANTEE IT! You guys seriously just purchased the most kick ass Android device, along with the rest of the Galaxy S phones!

The Vibrant and Captivate users are watching closely. Samsung has promised us a GPS optimization, and presumably your Epic and now Fascinate already has it. So you guys are our life line right now.

For those of you who will be testing out your GPS in the next few days, I'd like to make a few comments, so that we can get accurate GPS testing, to determine if the phone is actually using satellites like it should, or depends instead heavily on less accurate cell phone towers to determine your location, which means the GPS is still busted on these phones.

Okay, so here it goes. When testing your GPS, "Use Wireless Locations" should be turned off. Settings>location & security>Use wireless networks...make sure its UNCHECKED.

Read the note right under it, it says "See location in applications(such as Maps) using wireless networks."

If you put a check mark next to this, and turn this ON, then how will you ever know if the phone is functionally using the satellites. This is the big question with the phone, can it use and lock onto satellites or is Samsung hoping we use less accurate cell towers. Samsung hopes you have this on. I ask that you keep this unchecked, this is the only way to truly test the Satellite usage.

Further, by checking this, you are allowing Google to collect location data, even when no applications are running, they say its anonymous, but you never know.

So uncheck "Use Wireless Networks," restart your phone, make sure this is still unchecked, power up Google Maps, and go for a good long drive. Then please share your real world results. Including, how quickly it located you, was the location correct, how wide of a blue circle is there around your location, did the phone ever drop the GPS signal, etc. No 2 min drives, you really need to drive around a lot to dependably test this.

You can also download "GPS Test" from the Android Market, it will show you how many satellites your phone views, versus how many satellites are locked in. You need 4 LOCKED on satellites to get a true 3D positional lock that includes x,y,z,t. GPS test also shows your accuracy in ft, up in the upper right corner. Good accuracy is anything less than 10 ft. I have phones that get 5ft accuracy, the best accuracy I can get with my Vibrant is 40ft. Please report this number also. If you have time, upload a screen shot of your GPS test, or just take a pic of your phone running the GPS test, upload it and share your results.

You can also use the built in native GPS test. It is virtually the same as the GPS TEST program above, it's just not a pretty visual interface.

Go to your phones dialer, as if you are making a phone call, and dial in *#1472365# or if that doesn't work try *#*#1472365#*#*Then click on "get position test."

This test will show you your longitude and latitude, you can then enter this into Google maps to see how accurately it located you. It gives you accuracy in meters, convert to feet by multiplying the number given in meters by 3.28, you will now have your accuracy in ft.

The native built in test will show you have many satellites it has in view, the satellites that it actually locks onto will have an asterisk next to it. Please report both these numbers. Remember you need 4 locked on satellites for true precise 3D positioning.

I'm really interested to hear from prior smart-phone Android users, because these users will be able to make a direct comparison of the GPS to prior phones.

Samsung Fascinate :: Access Fascinate's System Files - Folders

Oct 18, 2010

I have a rooted Fascinate. Using ES file explorer I was able to view system folders and found the system media files containing ringtones, notification tone, etc. However, I can not edit the files there or paste new files in there. I cannot find the system folder when I connect the fascinate to a computer. I tried showing "hidden files" but the folders still would not show up.

What I want to do is add my downloaded ringtones into the system media folder so that I can use those ringtones without having those ringtones appear in my music player. Another post tried to deal with this issue of the music player recognizing ringtones and notification tones, but no one could provide an actual solution to the problem. If I could move ringtones from the media folder on the SD to card to the media folder in the system folder, this would solve the problem.

Can anybody access the system folders in a manner that I can add files to the folders.

EDITED: PROBLEM SOLVED.
With the help given below, I came up with a solution, and have pasted instructions directly below.
Here are the steps I did in case any one else is interested.

Once your phone is rooted, it's pretty simple.
1)Download Root Explorer from the Market. Root explorer will give you the ability to edit folders/files that normally can't be edited, ie read and write permission as opposed to read only.

2)Using Root Explorer (make sure in top left of program it says "mounted as r/w"), copy any ringtone, notification file, .ogg file, .mp3 file, etc that you have made or downloaded, by selecting sdcard folder and navigating to the location of your tones, long pressing the file of interest, and select copy. (You can even long press on the folder and copy the whole folder of tones).

3)Still using Root Explorer, back out of the SD folder, and find the folder called "system". Navigate to system/media/audio/"ringtones" or "notifications" . Click the paste button at the bottom of the screen (which should have appeared as soon as you copied your file/folder). The file/folder will now be in your system's tone folder.

4)You must power down and power back up your phone before the phone will recognize these newly added tones.

5)Either delete the tone files from your SD card, or put a .nomedia file into the folder to remove them from the SF's media player.
