View 32 Repliesive been trying to flash the froyo ROM on my epic 4g using ROM manager n its not working
View 32 RepliesI'm trying to install the leaked official 2.2 froyo update (I897UCJI6-OCD-REV02-Low.exe) that I picked up from Cognition over on XDA but when I run the Odin one click downloader it hangs at <ID:0/006> Added!!
<ID:0/006> Odin v.3 engine (ID:6)..
<ID:0/006> File analysis..
<ID:0/006> Set PIT file..
<ID:0/006> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
I removed the battery and restarted and flashed the factory ATT ROM and that worked fine. Why this is just hanging up on install. Seems everyone else who's downloaded it had no trouble. I've tried the file direct from design gears and also the mirror on multiupload.
I have read a ton of articles on this site, XDA, and other about doing a pre-official upgrade to Froyo on my captivate and then rooting it. This is officially the correct way to do it. The easiest way I found. And of course I am not responsible if you mess your phone up in the process.
Step One:
Download all the drivers you can find for the captivate. Install them without plugging the phone in, and then plug the phone in and let windows pick up any additional drivers. (Plug the phone in and let it find drivers, then mount it and let it find more if possible.)Driver Links: 64 bit Windows. Download Samsung Galaxy S USB Driver for Windows x64 Driver for Windows XP X64 / Windows Vista64 / Windows 7 x64 - Softpedia 32 bit Windows. Download Samsung Galaxy S USB Driver for Windows x86 Driver for Windows XP / Windows Vista / Windows 7 - Softpedia More Drivers.http://downloadcenter.samsung .com/ content/SW/201007/20100716004231953/SGH-i897_Captivate_USB_Drivers_5_02_0_2.zip **ALSO** Go ahead and download Samsung Kies. It will provide more drivers...4.0 inch SUPER AMOLED Display, Layar Reality Browser, Android 2.1 OS, 1GHz CPU Speed, 5 Megapixel AF Camera, Music Player - Samsung I9000 - Infotainment - mobile phones | SAMSUNG
STEP TWO:
Open Kies and plug your captivate in. Let it go through the loading and discovering the phone and all that song and dance. Also, check and see if your firmware can be updated. It is really easy to get the update through Kies. If there is any kind of updates, go ahead and do it. Even if your phone is already rooted, upgrading to 2.2 is going to delete everything you have anyways.
STEP THREE:
After everything has updates and your drivers are installed, (Drivers being most important here) It is time to flash your captivate to androind 2.2. There is a very simple program called ODIN that will do this all for you. to prepare for this you will need this version of ODIN Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites! download from and of these sources. You will also need to put your phone in debugging mode and change the USB setting to ask on connection. Download ODIN, and open it. You should see some blank boxes on the screen and two buttons at the bottom that say Start and Master Clear. This next series is important so do exactly as the directions say.
1) Plug the USB cable into the computer WITHOUT the phone plugged into it.
2) Make sure you have opened ODIN
3) Hold down BOTH the up and down volume buttons at the some time (Do not push the power button).
4) Count to 5 slowly and plug your USB cable into the phone while holding the buttons down still.
5) Download mode will pop up on your phone, it will have a green android guy on there and say very clearly that it is in download mode. YOU HAVE TO BE IN THIS MODE FOR IT TO WORK.
6) After that, in ODIN, one of the blank boxes should have something in it along the lines of COMM 4 or 3 or just anything in one of those blank boxes. Hit start.
**This process should only take about 5 minutes to do, if you are sitting there for half an hour something is wrong, go back and redo these steps.**
7) Let the phone do its thing. It will reboot and once it does, you are good to go and upgraded to 2.2
STEP FOUR:
Now it is time to root your 2.2 device, which is the easiest part of this. There very simple program to DL that will root your phone and enable side loading. Very easy to use.
1) Make sure your phone is set to ask on connection under the USB settings and debugging is on.
2) Download the software..[APP]SuperOneClick v1.5.1 (Root, Unroot, Enable Non-Market App, Get UNLOCK code) - xda-developers scroll all the way to the bottom of the post and download the latest version.
It should be Superoneclickv1.5.1-Shortfuse.zip*you may have to register for XDA but its free and has really good forums.
3) After the download is complete, run the .exe and follow the instructions.
Off the top of my head there should be a tab at the top of the program that says "Universal" and "Captivate" obviously make sure you are on the captivate tab. If you have to click "get unlock code" first then do so. unless you are experienced, just do the standard root and not the shell root. After this you will have Android Froyo 2.2 on your captivate and also have it rooted.
I have an i9000M (Bell) Galaxy S that is unlocked. I have had different versions of Froyo on the phone in the last couple of months, Currently, I have JPO and it is working fine.
My first question is,
Is there a generic (Non Bell, Orange, Att, etc.) version of Android that works on any android phone? Also, what about a version that works on any brand of phone, sort of like WIndows on a PC. I know there are a sh*t load of different phones out there, but I was wondering if a generic version would work.
Question #2,
Can I flash a European version of Froyo onto my Canadian phone?
It might be a noob question, but if you have rooted epic 4g, will it upgrade to froyo with no issues? Do i need to reset to default 2.1 again then upgrade?I know froyo coming soon but wanted to be ready for it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just rooted and installed the leaked Froyo DJ29 and now when i tap the phone icon in the froyo tray (not the touchwiz launcher) it says application is not installed. But the worst part is when i launch phone manually when i click "Call" it force closes.I know force closes are common in this build but is there anything i can do to fix this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn addition to the accuracy problem, the compass on my Epic seems to be really out of whack. It doesn't maintain a consistent reading (it jitters quite a bit) and has a difficult time finding North. I've seen this behavior exhibit itself in the GPS Test application and Google Maps. I loaded GPS Test on my girlfriends HTC Eris and her compass is accurate and a lot less jittery

I reinstalled ATK but there is a problem before I placed the icon on the main screen and when I would press it it would just kill apps automatically but now it opens up the app and I have to select it.
I got them working at one point, now they don't work, sees the phone like once out of every 10 tries.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI successfully rooted my phone tonight. No problems there.
I successfully installed the Epic Experience v1.1.10 ROM. Everything seems to have installed properly.
All seems to be well, so I went to install Titanium Backup to restore all of my apps from my stock Epic. The installation went fine. I try to run the app for the first time, and I get the following error: "Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BusyBox, and try again".
So I know that my root included BusyBox, because I was able to install and run it on the stock ROM. But just for kicks, I clicked "Problems?" and downloaded the version it says will work. No difference.
I have rebooted the phone several times. Makes no difference.
I have deleted and re-installed Titanium Backup. Makes no difference.
Suddenly the sound doesn't work for my text when I type or swype. I've turned on ALL sounds possible. (It still vibrates.) I can hear all the other sound effects and can hear the typing if I switch to Android Keyboard. But I like Swype!
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading to Froyo 2.2, Swype started to behave strangely. I noticed that with Froyo 2.2, Swype also got a newer version. However, the performance is much worst when compared to the previous version. Here is the summary of the issues which i noticed:
1. Incorrect word recognition. 30%-40% increase in incorrect recognition
2. Much higher CPU usage (hence battery drain)
3. Very bad performance in portrait mode as compared to landscape mode
After flashing Radioactive Froyo 1.8.7 Panda Radio doesn't work. It loads but when I go to run it a popup appears and says it has stopped unexpectedly to retry. No matter retrying it won't work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have two constant issues on my Epic-I've been ignoring them for a month but there must be a fix & I could really use your help! Also it would be good to hear from others who are seeing the same things so I know I am not completely insane...
1 - My screen brightness seems to adjust up on its own... To increase battery life I have it set all the way down...but, for example, as I was typing this post the brightness increased on its own... Any ideas?
2 - My voice recognition stops working all the time...not with one app either... Resetting my profile seems to fix it for about 5 minutes but it doesn't take long for it to go TU again
Will flashing a froyo rom on the hero make it compatible with flash 10.1? For instance, flashing the Elelinux rom based on froyo or the upcoming Froyo Sense Rom, VillainRom 13. Just wondering if it would work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWould the process just require using the RUU to flash back to stock and waiting for the update? I am currently all the way rooted and running the Cyanogen nightly.
View 19 Replies View RelatedI'm currently debating whether I should wait for my carrier (Telus) to provide the Froyo update OTA, or use a downloaded ROM. I'm more or less clear on the advantages/DISadvantages of using a downloaded RUU. I'm less clear on the advantages of waiting for Telus to offer it. I recently got the HTC Desire, and the Telus update could be as late as November. I would really like to install Froyo NOW, because once I start using the phone more and entering contacts and agendas and all of that, I don't want to have to redo all the work I did configuring the phone. Waiting for Telus OTA UPDATE:
* I get the update NOW, and I can get on with my life.
* No risk bricking the phone (biggest thing holding me back!)
* No need to waste an entire SD card, just to keep a backup of the Goldcard image in case of later updates
* I LOSE my 1-year warranty with Telus on the phone if its been hacked (UNLESS I can save version 2.1 and flash it back to that??)
I have had my Epic 4g for two days now and I am having the some notification and email problems. I don't get notifications when new email is available. I only get my email to show up on my inbox on my phone ONLY when i open email. I currently have it set to to check email every 5 minutes but this is obviously not happening. and i dont get a blinking LED when i get a SMS, Text message.

I did the simple root while having sw version 1.32. Flashed over fresh 0.5.3. Everything works except receiving MMS. I can send them as much as I want, theres just an issue with sending. I get an error stating that the message failed to download. I am guessing I may need to reflash.
