Aug 16, 2010Recently i got 2 android phones by samsung. One is Samsung Galaxy i5801 Apolo and the other Samsung i5500(Galaxy 5).
Both these mobiles don't have a front camera in it. Is it possible to make a video call from these devices without a front camera?
Any options through android apps or etc?

Sep 1, 2010Are you able to use the front facing camera to take a pic of yourself? I'm not an ego maniac, lol, just an idiot I guess. One more question, is there any other way using the stock programs to assign a picture to a contact without having to use the phone's own camera? i.e. linking a pic to contact from facebook or from the sd card?

Jun 4, 2010All I get is "call terminated" when I pick up and the connection is established. Tried initiating the video call from both ends (PC and EVO) with the same result. anyone?
have not tried on 4G yet since it;s dead at home (have it at the office and couple of streets down from my house - maybe I'll take a walk tonight?)
UPDATE:
-when initiating the call from the PC it rings on the phone and I only get "call terminated" when I pick it up on the EVO
- when initiating the call from the EVO it rings once and it hangs up (does not ring on the PC and I cannot answer it)
doing a restart of the EVO right now

alright, a power off and on of the EVO did it.

Jun 5, 2010Is that pinhole lens looking deal above the word Sprint on the phone the front facing camera? How do you activate it? When I go in to the camera and camcorder, it defaults to the lens on the back. I've looked at the settings, and I'm not seeing where to activate it?

Sep 3, 2010Does the front facing camera work for qik? and what about the pic quaality does it go all the way to 8mp, i take a lot of pics so is really important tome, any other feature that doesn't work that you guys think is important(4g, radio and hdmi), i would like to used 4g but don't mind too much and i'm running fresh 3.2.0.0 just looking for something fast and new to play, i have launcher pro+ so not problems with widgets, the only thing i might miss will be the dialer because stock android is just ugly and not functionality as HTC(and the keyboard too)

HTC EVO 4G :: Front-facing Camera Didn't Work?
Jun 28, 2010EVO has been nothing short of a roller-coaster ride of highs and extreme lows for me. I purchased an EVO on launch day, almost a month ago now. The second day of owning the phone I discovered that my front-facing camera didn't work. I had to wait three weeks (for more to get in stock at Best Buy) to get it exchanged for a new one.
Now, after not even having the new phone for a week... IT IS BRICKED! I downloaded and installed the OTA update. Then, apparently like many others, I accidentally re-installed the same update. I didn't even mean to. Just out of habit of checking for updates I made the mistake. Now, I am bricked.
After reading the forum posts about the bricking issue, (after mine was bricked ) I immediately went back to Best Buy to do ANOTHER exchange. Of course, they don't have any in stock and none of the other stores within a 45 mile radius do either. That is 12 stores total. I called every single one of them myself just to double-check that the Best Buy employee actually called them.
Now, I am on a waiting list... AGAIN! I desperately want to love the EVO. This is the most excited I've ever been about a cell phone, but it's been such an emotional nightmare for me. I don't think my high blood pressure can take any more of this bull sh*t! I have never owned an HTC device before. I have always heard that they, well... suck. Now, even though I want so much to love the EVO, I am starting to believe they do suck as a company. People on here will say "Oh, you get these sort of issues with any device launch." "It's new technology, and comes with the territory." Well, I say BOLLOCKS! Bricking a phone for accidentally installing an update that's already been applied? REALLY?
Sprint is about to be flooded with calls from pissed off people like me who aren't stupid people who made this mistake. Not everyone checks internet forums for every device they own before doing anything to those devices. This is a massive failure in programming and is about to cost them a ton of money. Not to mention the negative word of mouth.
I don't want to give up on EVO, but somebody please tell me what I am supposed to do? If a new one isn't in my hands by Friday, I have no choice but to go to Best Buy and get my money back. I will just wait for the next best thing to come out, that ISN'T AN HTC.

First off I have to say the quality from just the camera itself is excellent for a webcam IMO.
The weird thing is that it seems to record a mirror image meaning if something is on the right in real life it's actually on the left in the video. The article explains it. You think it's something that can corrected through an update?

In the Android 2.1 SDK we only have the MediaRecorder.VideoSource.CAMERA and DEFAULT, but not FRONT_CAMERA and REAR_CAMERA. So, is there any other way to record from Front camera.. like any third party API's.

At the announcement today the pictures of the X looked like there was no camera and I haven't seen it mentioned. Is there not going to be a front camera on this phone. Aug 31, 2010Has anyone rigged up a device to convert the back camera into a front facing camera? I may experiment with this at some point. In the past I have simply sat in front of a mirror and pointed the camera into the mirror, this way I don't need to flip the phone back and forth to video chat.
However, I am envisioning a device (perhaps made of plastic or cardboard... business cards might even work) with angled mirrors on it, that can sit on top of the phone. One mirror would be facing the camera, the other would be facing you. The second mirror would mirror your image to the mirror facing the camera. Just a thought, I haven't played with this, so the image may be upside down, requiring another mirror. Attached is a paint mock up. I'll post my results when I get around to building one. I encourage others to try and improve upon a design. Could be a cool little project.

Sep 1, 2010Here are a few shots taken using both my Epic 4G and my Evo 4G.
1) I'm not a photographer
2) I used Vignette on the Evo 4G
3) I used both the Stock camera and Vignette for the Epic
4) The Epic pictures were taken while there was more sunlight out, the Evo was more in optimum lighting.
5) Neither has been retouched in any way
I also have 720p video shot with both phones, just don't know where to upload it yet.
Samsung Fascinate :: Getting A Front Facing Camera
Sep 23, 2010just went in to the verizon store to see why my girlfriends fascinate(i have an incredible ) wouldn't update. here's the conversation:
guy: it was pushed out to the first 1000, but things went wrong so they pulled it back(talking about the update i500.DI01)
us: ok so we shouldn't be worrying?
guy: no. but you'll get it sometime next week. then you'll get one the week after(didn't say what it would include) and then there will be one in november that will activate the front facing camera.
us: wait, what?
He showed us the 3 little dots on the top of the phone(sensors and i guess a camera).
He said that he talked to a samsung rep yesterday in the store and this is what he told him. the guy actually has a samsung fascinate and showed us so i'm going to believe him.
If you look closely at the 3 dots, the one on the left is alone. the one(s) on the right kinda have two different colors(light sensor and proximity sensor) so i still am going to believe him.

Aug 31, 2010One of the selling points of the Epic 4G is the 5mp Camera it has.. Gizmodo rated better than the iphone's and even though, it doesn't have 8 mp (Evo), its 5 mp picture has a higher quality than Evo's.
Please post your pictures and if you can use some of the photo apps available ( Fxcamera, Retro cam, Camera Illusion, Vignette, Photostitch), it will give us a better idea of how good the camera and apps are.

Oct 6, 2010According to a PocketNow article dated Oct.5th.....Skype (mobile) is now available for Android. frauhottelmann Good job Skype, it doesn't work on the Galaxy S (unfortunately that's what I have) You simply can't log in on the Galaxy S. Too bad. Then another poster wrote..."Same for me". Unfortunately he only says "You simply can't log in..." and this leaves me wondering WHY NOT ? If anyone out there knows exactly why we can't use our SGS to log in...then please enlighten the rest of us who are left wondering. It seems to me that if the exact reason is known then someone should be able to come up with a fix.
