Samsung Captivate :: No Mac Connectivity / Mass Storage Device
Jul 18, 2010Can't seem to get my Captivate to mount on my Mac 10.6 machine. Doesn't make for a great first impression when trying to transfer over some music from iTunes via DoubleTwist. Anyone else able to get their Captivate to mount on their mac? I've had a little more success on my Win7 x64 rig, but I'm still having issues getting this thing to mount as a mass storage device or otherwise.

However when I try to open in a error pops up and says "insert disc in drive f:/". If I change it to the media sync setting then nothing happens no drive detected. Jul 11, 2010Bought the Galaxy S yesterday. I connected the phone to my Windows 7 (64-bit) laptop directly (no USB hub). It detects the two internal memories, but the moment I access them; it says please insert the disk in the drive. What might be problem here? The memory shows as mounted in the phone.Also, Kies application does not appear to be working on Windows 7 64-bit. It does get installed properly, but does not detect the Galaxy S.

Jul 16, 2010When I connect my new Galaxy S to my computer using the usb connection, I can see both the internal and external SD card (I use a sandisk Ultra 16GB card). However I cannot open these disks. Windows refuses to open them. The right click on these disks in order to get their properties gives 0GB! So what is going wrong. Do the SD cards use a special format (linux ?) that windows can not see correctly.
I take chance of this message to give a short feedback of my first week with my galaxy S here in France. I got it from virginmobile operator. I have to say that this phone is amazing. What a screen ! My wife just purchased an iphone 4. By far I prefer the samsung's screen. Concerning the battery. One can go for one or two days without recharging. My feeling is that it is not shorter than the iphone's battery.

Aug 9, 2010I have gone to settings - aboutphone - usb settings - mass storage. Now upon connecting to my computer, the phone task bar says connect phone via mounting. So I do this. Usually a drive should be installed and then it should be visible on my computer. But this doesn't happen. How do I get it to work? I don't use kies because it is rubbish and don't need it. Jul 25, 2010This is my first Android phone. Coming from the iPhone 3Gs, I am expecting a lot. So far this phone is great, it has some bugs on it but I am willing to work with it. One of the best thing about the iPhone was that it was an ipod, a really great music player. Since I am new to Android, I am still learning how to use it.
I am using DoubleTwist to sync my music to the phone. I was able to import all my info from Itunes over to DT, but the problem was syncing it to the phone. I am not able to sync my playlist to the phone. I am able to sync the music itself but when I try to play it on my phone it is a mess. Is it possible to get my playlist to sync with this phone?

First, it only lets me send to 10 contacts, but more importantly when I sent it the message shows up 10 times in same window. Sep 9, 2010I want to use the stock music player on the Captivate because it has music controls on the lockscreen. The problem is the stock music player on the Captivate doesn't recognize playlist (m3u) files. DoubleTwist works well with playlists but it doesn't have lockscreen controls. Kies doesn't sync playlists. You can make a playlist on Kies but when you try to sync to the phone it just copies the music files over without the playlists. I either need a way to import playlists to the stock music player or find a music player that has lockscreen controls (preferably free).

Jul 25, 2010So, back in the day, when the first iPod Video came out, I thought it was about high time for me to join the whole "iRevolution" bandwagon. I mean, how cool would it be that I could FINALLY have a slick little device that I could put in my pocket and take with me everywhere which played ALL of my media? When it all first came out, such an idea was incredible, and I wanted to be a part of that. This was to be my first (and last) Apple device, and as such, I had never futzed around with iTunes ever before, because my media library was already well developed and existed even before the iPod's inception.
I have always been an avid Winamp user. It is, and always has been, a powerful, open-ended, lightweight and, for me, a familiar and simple-to-use program. As such, my entire media library consists of many many .m3u playlists and file formats ranging from everything from your typical mp3's, to wma's, too .ogg's and .flac's, all of which the mighty Android has no problems playing back whatsoever (which, in the case of the .flac and .ogg's was quite a pleasant surprise for me!). So, when I plugged in my iPod for the first time, I thought it would be just as easy as taking my root media folder and simply dragging and dropping the whole thing onto the device. Why shouldn't it be that simple? After all, this is Apple, the monarch of simplicity! So, I anxiously wait several hours while all my stuff copies over to the iPod, and finally when it finishes, I check it out, only to discover that NONE of my media is accessible on my iPod. Angry, and frustrated, I do some research which led me to discover that there was in fact nothing wrong with my iPod at all. The problem was that I absolutely needed to use iTunes to put all my media onto the device, AND I had to convert EVERYTHING over to the iTunes format. Really? Seriously!? When I discovered that iTunes estimated it would have taken at LEAST two weeks to perform a complete conversion of everything, assuming it went flawlessly, and without any interruptions or any other unforeseen issues, I decided F### THAT $###!!! I want my $300 back! And from that day forward, as if to avoid the plague, I have steered clear of owning ANYTHING with a lower case "i" in the front of it. Anyway, enough of a rant...
Long story short:
Is there some way to get .m3u playlists to work on the Captivate? I used to have a Nokia E71, and on that phone .m3u playlist importation/creation/recognition was breeze; just copy your files to your sdcard, load them up in Winamp, save a playlist file on the sdcard. 1, 2, 3, done! Now however, I find myself futzing around with tag editors, which although they work (sorta kinda), they're awkward and complicated compared to just creating a play list in Winamp, and clicking "Save Playlist."
There has to be some easier way....I'm using Winamp.
Samsung Captivate :: Stock Music Player Will Not Recognize Imported Playlist
Jul 23, 2010I'm having two weird problems:
1) The stock Music Player will not recognize my imported playlists. Every other player I've installed sees them just fine. I don't know what I'm doing wrong with the stock player (I sync with Songbird).
2) Unfortunately, all of the other music players I've tried will play choppy for the first few seconds of every song (TuneWiki, Meridian, MixZing, doubleTwist). The stock player does not have this problem for me.
MixZing: Pro Lock Screen widget, recognizes my playlists. Con Plays choppy Stock Player: Pro Lock Screen widget, plays perfect. Con Doesn't recognize playlists.Anyone who can help solve the Con on either MixZing or the stock player?

Aug 9, 2013I use Samsung Galaxy S2 with Ice Scream Sandwich 4.0.3. WITHOUT EXTERNAL SD CARD ,rooted with SuperSu,oh and I rooted my phone specifically to be able to move apps to internal mass storage.
Firstly,before I tried rooting my phone,I tried moving my apps to internal mass storage via the basic application manager in settings,but it only showed the "move to SD" option.
Then I rooted my phone and downloaded x-plore.With x-plore ( file manager app with root browsing ) I found out that there were two parts of any app on the internal memory.First part ( located in /root/data/app ) contains .apk of an app which is oftenly same size as the installation of an app.Second part ( located in /root/data/user/data/data ) and it contains ".com.android." files of an app,which I believe are downloaded folders by that app.So for an example ,if I have Angry Birds installed, angrybirds.apk will be available in /root/data/app and ".com.android.rovio.angrybirds" will be available in /root/data/user/data/data.Since I couldn't find ANY app that is specifically made to move app to INTERNAL mass storage,I tried moving these two parts of an app (.apk and ".com.android..") to internal mass storage ( named as "sd" on x-plore ).But,as expected the app I moved tho the mass storage was "installed on sd card" as android would specify when I'd try to run it.Note:I moved it to a random directory on internal mass storage.When I moved the files back to their original paths,since they wouldn't work on mass storage,they worked properly again.
So any way I count kind of mount those two parts I mentioned of an app as one,so Android would recognize it as a whole app when I move those files on internal mass storage.Or is there some other way to move them to mass storage?Or to make apps automatically install on internal mass storage?
I really don't want to buy a SD card since I've read multiple articles that apps don't run best from SD cards.Once again,I repeat , I wan't to move them to INTERNAL mass storage which is around 11.50 GB of space,because my internal(system) memory is like 1/1,97 GB used.

My touch screen doesn't work so i cant just try to wing it from memory, so now I'm wondering if there is some magical way i can turn on mass storage vie my PC, unless there's another way to get my stuff off my phone.
