Can't seem to get my Captivate to mount on my Mac 10.6 machine. Doesn't make for a great first impression when trying to transfer over some music from iTunes via DoubleTwist. Anyone else able to get their Captivate to mount on their mac? I've had a little more success on my Win7 x64 rig, but I'm still having issues getting this thing to mount as a mass storage device or otherwise.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have manually installed the drivers, and I am running windows 7 64-bit. The problem is that my Hero will not connect to my pc as a mass storage device. I pull down the notifications, mount, but then a couple of seconds later, the hero remounts the SD card and closes the connection. My computer will detect it and I can access the "storage device" for a couple of seconds, but then it disconnects.

However when I try to open in a error pops up and says "insert disc in drive f:/". If I change it to the media sync setting then nothing happens no drive detected. It detects the two internal memories, but the moment I access them; it says please insert the disk in the drive. What might be problem here? The memory shows as mounted in the phone.Also, Kies application does not appear to be working on Windows 7 64-bit. It does get installed properly, but does not detect the Galaxy S.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I connect my new Galaxy S to my computer using the usb connection, I can see both the internal and external SD card (I use a sandisk Ultra 16GB card). However I cannot open these disks. Windows refuses to open them. The right click on these disks in order to get their properties gives 0GB! So what is going wrong. Do the SD cards use a special format (linux ?) that windows can not see correctly.
I take chance of this message to give a short feedback of my first week with my galaxy S here in France. I got it from virginmobile operator. I have to say that this phone is amazing. What a screen ! My wife just purchased an iphone 4. By far I prefer the samsung's screen. Concerning the battery. One can go for one or two days without recharging. My feeling is that it is not shorter than the iphone's battery.
I have gone to settings - aboutphone - usb settings - mass storage. Now upon connecting to my computer, the phone task bar says connect phone via mounting. So I do this. Usually a drive should be installed and then it should be visible on my computer. But this doesn't happen. How do I get it to work? I don't use kies because it is rubbish and don't need it. I just want to drop and drag music and videos.

First, it only lets me send to 10 contacts, but more importantly when I sent it the message shows up 10 times in same window. View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm a big fan of just having direct access to my devices (i.e., no sync, no "management" front end). So this isn't about local access from the device (using MyFiles or Astro), but from a PC in the same location (so not like 3G remote). So far I've explored these options: USB Connect phone, mount from notification menu, and there you go. Bluetooth Pair phone, use "send file" from PC BT app (running in system tray).
Files drop into a 'bluetooth' directory, ready to move/use. Android Web OS Very beta-esque right now, but runs as a service on the phone, then you can access the filesystem (and SMS, eventually other functions). You can copy up to the phone or download (basically via a simple web mechanism). Use across Another service on the phone, a basic FTP server accessible across WiFi.
Works pretty good so far, I created a 'network location' in Windows, then a shortcut on my desktop into my MP3 directory on /sd. So I just open that folder, copy over MP3s. Doesn't matter where the phone is currently sitting or connected. For the services type options, I'm going to check out something like Locale or Tasker, when I can trigger the service to fire up based on a rule (a specific WiFi network trigger would be outstanding).
Previous versions of Android but ICS changed things up a bit and the answer is no longer useful. I'm building a small android file manager type application for the desktop and any system call I might be able to make through adb to enable UMS or mount the sd card of a device from within the desktop application. Some scenarios: Device is connected over WiFi - presumably the device has a standard IP address as with any host and can communicate with any other android host over TCP/IP (assuming it knows the participating device's IP? device is connected over bluetooth - how are devices identified in this case? device is connected over mobile operator's network - this is the one I'm interested in and confused by - is there anyway for two or more devices to discover each other and communicate via the mobile operator's network? How does a device communicate with a backend server in this scenario? In other words, how do apps and devices communicate when not connected to a WiFi network?

I plug in USB and mount via status bar, comp detects phone (makes sound) and I can see it in USB safe removal thing. Though once mounted, no drive shows up. View 4 Replies View RelatedI use Samsung Galaxy S2 with Ice Scream Sandwich 4.0.3. WITHOUT EXTERNAL SD CARD ,rooted with SuperSu,oh and I rooted my phone specifically to be able to move apps to internal mass storage.
Firstly,before I tried rooting my phone,I tried moving my apps to internal mass storage via the basic application manager in settings,but it only showed the "move to SD" option.
Then I rooted my phone and downloaded x-plore.With x-plore ( file manager app with root browsing ) I found out that there were two parts of any app on the internal memory.First part ( located in /root/data/app ) contains .apk of an app which is oftenly same size as the installation of an app.Second part ( located in /root/data/user/data/data ) and it contains ".com.android." files of an app,which I believe are downloaded folders by that app.So for an example ,if I have Angry Birds installed, angrybirds.apk will be available in /root/data/app and ".com.android.rovio.angrybirds" will be available in /root/data/user/data/data.Since I couldn't find ANY app that is specifically made to move app to INTERNAL mass storage,I tried moving these two parts of an app (.apk and ".com.android..") to internal mass storage ( named as "sd" on x-plore ).But,as expected the app I moved tho the mass storage was "installed on sd card" as android would specify when I'd try to run it.Note:I moved it to a random directory on internal mass storage.When I moved the files back to their original paths,since they wouldn't work on mass storage,they worked properly again.
So any way I count kind of mount those two parts I mentioned of an app as one,so Android would recognize it as a whole app when I move those files on internal mass storage.Or is there some other way to move them to mass storage?Or to make apps automatically install on internal mass storage?
I really don't want to buy a SD card since I've read multiple articles that apps don't run best from SD cards.Once again,I repeat , I wan't to move them to INTERNAL mass storage which is around 11.50 GB of space,because my internal(system) memory is like 1/1,97 GB used.
I dropped my Gnex for the thousandth time, exceot this time my screen decided to not turn on... since my phone doesn't have an sd card all my data is locked in there. My touch screen doesn't work so i cant just try to wing it from memory, so now I'm wondering if there is some magical way i can turn on mass storage vie my PC, unless there's another way to get my stuff off my phone.
