Samsung Captivate :: Possible Side Loading Without Root / PC Connection?

Jul 19, 2010

I may be wrong here as I am new to this whole game but I think I was able to load "restricted apps" by turning airplane mode on and then turning wifi back on. I searched for and installed pdanet with no problem right from the marketplace.

Samsung Captivate :: Side Loading Applications (Installing Non Market) Without Root

Aug 6, 2010

I've seen many threads on the crappy side asking how to side load apps (installing non market apps) well you can root (look for the sticky in our forum) or you just use the Side loading Wonder Machine with no need to root. I use it all the time (just got me an Oregon Trail apk anyway, just follow the instructions and you'll be happy. I would make two minor corrections though. I downloaded the samsung drivers from samsung them selfs. Also make sure you have the apk in the same folder as the wonder machine heres a video.

Samsung Captivate :: Translator CMD To Terminal Code For Board Sticky Of Side Loading Apps

Sep 1, 2010

Been talking to Lekky and we have all these great things grouped into one thread. One important thread is side mounting the captivate. Things it gives you are SDK which can be downloaded for PC or Mac. Drivers again PC or Mac.

Then Root access no biggie
Busy box no biggie.

Then it goes into the CMD language for PC on how to edit the database file using CMD prompts to enable the sideloading of APKs directly on the phone.......................

Samsung Captivate :: Simplest Way To Side Load Apps

Jul 21, 2010

I don't know if this was already posted and I am sorry if it was, but I would just like to show people how to sideload apps NOT using root and in very simple words.

1. Download Droid Explorer for your system. (de - Release: Droid Explorer 0.8.7.0 Beta)

2. Now, go to your phone. Settings> Applications> Development > USB Debugging.

3. Make sure you downloaded the drivers for the captivate then plug in your phone and select PC connect and mount the phone.

4. Now open Droid Explorer and connect the device. Right click and select batch install.

5. Now a screen should pop up and you should select the APKs you would like to install and it is self explanatory from there on out.

That should do it, sorry if this was posted somewhere else or something but I kind of figured this out on my own even though I am not a very techy guy.

Samsung Captivate :: One-Click Method To Side Load Apps Without Rooting

Aug 27, 2010

Download and use a program called Android Central Sideload Wonder Machine. It's a one click solution, works amazingly on the Captivate and requires no hassle. The program claims to work on un-rooted phones (though mine is rooted). My girlfriend's Captivate is not rooted though so I will test this out on her phone as well to confirm it. Check it out though. I've already gone to town with this and it works great.

General :: Side Loading When Unauthorized?

Sep 1, 2013

I have a Galaxy Nexus. I accidentally wiped the SD Card trying to flash back to stock, and now I have no OS. So, I'm trying to sideload a file onto the device but I'm getting an unauthorized message, as seen in the photo attached. I'm on a computer I've previously authorized, and I've tried one I hadn't, but both give me the same message.

Is there any way I can bypass this to get this file on my phone? Since I can't sideload through this, I've basically hit a wall.My recovery is CWM, but I've gone through every option and nothing seems to allow authorization. my phone's basically a brick at the moment.

Jul 18, 2010

When I try to load certain webpages my browser will crash as soon as it loads 100%. An example gizmodo.com, it only happens with the full version of the site not the mobile version. It appears to be javascript related, because when I disable javascript the page will load without crashing. This happens both in the standard browser and in DolphinHD. Also, sometimes before crashing DolphinHD will show a page saying: "The Web page at file:///android_asset/webkit could not be loaded as: The requested file was not found. webkit/"

Samsung Captivate :: Root Captivate With No USB Cables

Aug 11, 2010

know there are tutorials on the root process with the "one-click" root, and some using your pc and USB drivers, This is the EASIEST way I think, and I just did it, so i know it works.I was at work today and I wanted to root my Captivate. All I have is my work pc, and my Captivate. No USB cables or anything. I had one powerful tool though. the Internet. You will need these 2 apps: Linda File Manager and Dropbox. Free in the Market.Go to Dropbox - Home - Online backup, file sync and sharing made easy. and download that to your computer. Sign up for it, it is cloud based file sharing. It's awesome, I use it every day. Already a user, great. On your pc, go download the root update file here: SGH-I897 Root Update.zip - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage Rename it to update.zipOpen up your dropbox and put it in the "public" folder. Now on your Captivate, open up dropbox and sign in.Open the public folder and tap the file "update.zip" to download it.Now open up Linda file manager.Tap "SD card", open the folder "dropbox". open "public", then tap and hold "update.zip". Choose CUT.Now just hit the back button all the way back to the SD card.Tap the menu button, tap EDIT, then tap Paste.Close all apps.Turn the phone off.Now just boot in to recovery.Hold down both Volume buttons at the same time. While holding those 2 buttons, hold the power button down.ONCE THE WHITE AT&T SCREEN POPS UP, RELEASE THE POWER BUTTON, BUT KEEP HOLDING THE VOLUME BUTTONS UNTIL THE RECOVERY SCREEN SHOWS UP. (You'll know it when you see it)You will now see the recovery screen.Use the volume keys to scroll down to "reinstall packages", hit the power button to select it.Let it do it's thing.BAM. 1-2 minutes later, your phone is rebooted and you now have superuser in the app drawer. This seems a little lengthy, but if you are already a dropbox user, it will go by fast.I rooted my Captivate in less than 5 minutes.

Samsung Captivate :: Cannot Send Email Over IMAP - Connection Error

Aug 3, 2010

I have 3 email accounts on my Captivate, 2 gmail and My purdue email account. I can send and receive through both the gmail accounts but the Purdue one will not send no matter what settings I try. According to the school the outgoing settings need to be
IMAP
TSL enabled
port 587
require log in

I have tried TSL, SSL (both regular and accept all certs) login and no login and a few other settings. Done 2 battery pulls and re composing the message countless times. It just stays in my outbox. WiFi on and off. When I go into the outbox, I press on the "Send outgoing messages button" and it blinks like I pressed it, but it doesn't immediately try to send the email, have to wait another 2-4 minutes before it decides it wants to try and connect to the server. When it does finally try to send the email it tries for about 30 seconds then comes back with "connection error" and gives up. Also none of my email accounts will automatically check for email like I have them set to do. I have them set to check every 5 minutes and it seems like some check every 4 hours and others will only manually check. Its inconsistent at best.
The email issues for this phone are really making me regret the purchase.

Pressing all hardware buttons does nothing but black the screen and go back to the same screen. I've taken out the battery, sim, unplugged the cord, everything. Can't get back into download mode to redo the kernal swap. It's definitely connected to a valid, and working, usb port and i am now on windows itself instead of vmware. What do I do?

Samsung Captivate : WiFi Connection Turns Off When In Sleep Mode By Default

Jul 22, 2010

I am new to smartphones and thought that this might be good for others who are new and don't have the unlimited data plan grandfathered in to know.

This was posted in reply to another question I had had about Pandora so the credit goes to poster MeVirtually.

By default the wi-fi setting is set to go to sleep (and use cellular data instead) when the screen is off, which will most likely happen while you are streaming music as well as other things. To change it so the wi-fi never turns off, to into the phone's menu -> wireless and network -> wi-fi settings -> tap the menu button and select advanced which has an option for wi-fi sleep policy that had been defaulted to sleep "when screen turns off". There you have the option to change it to "never" or "never when plugged in".

HTC EVO 4G :: No Internet Connection - Loading Bar Go Halfway And Stop

Jul 7, 2010

For the past 3 days I have been having problems browsing the internet. Sometimes when trying to load a page the green loading bar goes about halfway and stops (the page is already loaded), if I try to stop the action and hit the X button it says 'Stopping' but the bar stays stuck on halfway, and when I try to enter text like in google, nothing happens when I hit the search button. Its not my internet as this happens both on WiFi and 3G. I would take the phone back but I am a bit scared as my phone so far has no light leakage, 30+ hours of battery life, hardware 003, and a nice novatec screen.

Samsung Captivate :: Root Reset Or Return?

Aug 3, 2010

I've had this phone since day one. I was counting down the days until I could get it. I'd gone from an iPhone 3G, to the Aria, to the Captivate. I was loving the Aria, so I was really excited to get a faster, more full-featured phone. And don't get me wrong, 65% of the time it is a great phone, as long as I'm not trying to listen to music (which is what I do 90% of the time on my phones). I love Swype, I love the screen, yada, yada, yada. All the stuff folks love about this phone, I love. But now I'm at a crossroads. I'm an audio professional. Music playback is seriously important to me. Shoddy playback just can't happen. I mean, this is the top of the top of the line when it comes to phones, right? It should do something as simple as playback music flawlessly, right. It should perform basic tasks without freezing, hesitating or any of that, right? My Aria was faster and more responsive than this phone (by far). And a little easier to use overall.

So now I find myself wanting to keep the phone, but if I do something's gotta change. I can't wait for months. I need basic music functionality now. So my choices are: 1. Root (which could damage the phone and put me in a more difficult situation). And I'm not a developer or anything. I'm a guy with a conversational knowledge of computers but way too busy a life to spend as much time as I have with this phone, although I've enjoyed the reading forums and tinkering. 2. Reset. Some say a factory reset has cured all their ills, but I'm skeptical. Do I want to risk having to take the time to re-input all my data on the off chance that it will magically solve the problem? Call me crazy, but I think the phone was at factory reset level when I bought it, and these problems have been around since day one.3. Return. Well, this is almost the same as factory reset, but with a trip to the store, grief from the folks there and the inputting all info again. And nothing guarantees that the new phone is any more or less glitchy than the current one?

Now, let me say that I don't want an iPhone 4. That's the whole reason I went to Android. I don't like the I4. I've been a Mac guy since 1990, I have an iPad, and iTouch, a MacBook, an iMac, a Shuffle, an iPhone 3G. I just don't like where Apple has gone, for the first time in my life. So, I'm asking you all: what the $&^ should I do? I'm at the breaking point with a phone I love.
