Do we have visual voicemail? Can someone help me with setting it up? All I see is old school voicemail (dial 1). Can't even get that to work either. This is my 1st android device and I'm quite technical but something that should be simple has got me stumped.

I have AT&T with the Samsung Captivate.I came from an original iPhone The iPhone was having lots of issues such as getting a new voice mail notification but no missed call, or I would get a missed call and they said they left a voice mail, but I would get no voice mail notification.Texts were hit or miss and my wifi didn't work...and I guess that isn't really relevant to this conversation.Anyway, since AT&T finally put a decent android phone on the market, I got the captivate on Monday. Right out of the box it said I had 1 new voice mail. I check my voice mail and it says I have no voice mails. 2 days later it still says I have a voice mail, but when I check i don't. This is very frustrating. Does anyone have suggestions on how I can fix this problem? One thing I was thinking is that on the iPhone system I have a voice mail that I never checked and the captivate is reporting on that, but I'm not sure if that's really how it works.

Does anyone know what the default number should be? Is it the same for all phones or should I take it to the ATT store and have them fix it? Will a factory reset solve my problems?

I am new to the Android system and also to the Captivate. Is there any good program out there that reliably allows you to see who your voicemails are from similar to what the iPhone offers?

I read a few places that you can't use voice command/control when the phone is on bluetooth. Has there been any change to this since it was first released?
My car stereo is equipped to use a phone via bluetooth, with a microphone mounted by the rear view mirror. I live for this at times, but voice dialing would be 10x more helpful than scrolling through contacts on the stereo screen.
Also, I'd love to know if you can legitimately get visual voicemail without paying a monthly fee? At least for now, I want to keep the phone legit and not mess with warranty, etc.
I'm obviously asking for a brand new phone - as of right now, not "well, when it was released x, y, z" as I think sometimes things change quickly with phones.
The one thing i miss most about my iPhone is the caller ID/ visual voicemail capability that came standard. is there anything offered in the market that is comparable? I miss being able to look at the call log and see where calls originated.

Since then, he reports that callers sometimes get his personal voicemail greeting, but sometimes just get a vanilla greeting with the phone number, or perhaps an inability to leave a message at all. We're trying to figure out why.
1) Could it be related to the fact that the Samsung Moment has Visual Voicemail? My friend doesn't use the Visual Voicemail program on the phone (yet), but rather dials 1, just as he used to, to both set his greeting and hear his messages. My understanding, however, is that he was switched to a Visual Voicemail-capable server anyway.
2) Could it be related to roaming? I wonder whether his new job is in an area with poor Sprint service, where his phone is often going into roaming. This would also explain why his battery is not lasting the full (overtime) workday.
3) Could the separate server used for Visual Voicemail be downright flaky, constantly flopping up and down, or perhaps over-busy? Wouldn't other customers of that server complain if so?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I attempt to set my voicemail greeting, it first asks me to set a 4-7 digit password, then hit #. If I hit # without entering digits, it says "# is not recognized". The user manual clearly states "Sprint recommends you set a password, otherwise anyone who finds your phone can access your voicemail." That implies you don't have to set a password. So how do I tell it I don't want a password, and let me move on to the greeting recording?

Seems like that's all I really need to do. So why am I here watchinghearing my phone ring right now on my desk and yes it's from the contact in question? I mean we've all got at least 1 person that we just do NOT want to talk to when they call. I can deal with a voicemail and call them back when I'm ready. But when I reach for my ringing phone and I see that contact's name. all I can say is WTF?

The phone is rooted, and I assume that this is what is causing the failure. So my questions are, what happens if I do not download the update, and what can I do to stop recieving the message? it seems to pop up everytime I recieve a text.

Sometimes, when I receive calls, the phone will ring 2 or three times before going to voicemail - it is almost like I am rejecting the calls, which I know I'm not, as it tends to happen when I'm not even touching the phone.

I rooted my captivate thinking that i could install apps that are blocked on my phone, like Sirius XM, WiFI tethering.....even after rooting the programs are still being blocked and i cant install them. am i missing something? im new to android and had an iphone that i jail broke. im confused on what rooting actually.
