View 28 RepliesI'm an Incredible user, but my girlfriend has an Eris. I'm tired of hearing her bitch about the speed of the phone, and how it occasionally locks up on her, so (now that the easy root method for leaker's is out) I'm about to root her phone and install a custom ROM. Now, I have a few questions for you folks since I'm not familiar with the Eris community at all (and I have some time constraints since she needs her phone back).
1. I'm looking for a ROM recommendation. What I'm looking for is something extremely stable and fast. I don't need any bells/whistles. She doesn't use tethering, at all but it must have GPS/Camera/Blue tooth/MMS working. Don't really care if it has Sense, but if there is something fast/stable WITH sense, that would not be a bad thing. Most important things are speed and bug-free (or damn close). Froyo would be nice (obviously).
2. I am unfamiliar with overclocking. I come from a phone where you overclock by installing a hydra kernel, so I don't know how this works on the Eris. It sounds like I will have to manually set up overclocking in Set CPU, and I'm not familiar with the application. If anyone can give me some tips on how to do this, or recommended settings that would be AWESOME. One thing to keep in mind is that this is not my phone, so I won't have time to tinker with trial and error (in other words I won't be able to start testing at 850mhz and work my way down until it's stable).I know this is a lot to ask, but I'm hoping some of you guys will be able to help me out given the circumstances. Thanks in advance.
just wondering wat the best roms are for the incredible. U can right ur opinions here and i want to see which roms i want to use :3
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs there a recommendation for a 'relatively straight forward' ROM that's not over the top but provides for the overclock while active/under clock while sleeping? I am considering rooting, but that's only the tip of the iceburg. Picking a decent ROM is next - and I really don't want to grab anything hairy.
View 20 Replies View RelatedSo my wife and I went over on our text messaging (I'm glad she went over too, or I'd gotten an earfull. Now she can't say too much). Anyway, any recommendations for an SMS counter app? I dunno if Handcent has one built in, but I'd like one that retains all data between changing/updating ROMs. I have the 250 messaging package. Text messaging is ridiculous in price.

View 8 Replies View RelatedSearch didn't provide any Droid specific answers for me, so here goes: My wife and I are looking into getting a router in our house, and I want to steer clear of any that will not work with My Droid. Our other uses will be my PS3 and her notebook. Are there any particular routers that we need to avoid?
View 17 Replies View RelatedNew to rooting and just got myself setCPU. I was wondering what some standard profiles that people use to maximize performance and battery life. So far I have it set to underclock when the screen is off and when less than a certain battery percentage. What temperature should I be looking at as "dangerous" to set my cpu to underclock then as well? Any other recommended profiles?
View 3 Replies View RelatedComing from a BB curve, I am very excited to watch high quality movies on my subway commute everyday. I would like to start converting movies to MP4 tonight to have everything ready to go on Friday, but I need your help. I know there are many posts on this subject, but none specific to the DROID. What is the best free movie converter and at what resolution to do you recommend converting to? While we are on the subject, what is the best video player for the DROID?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI haven't seen a post on this in a while. Does anyone have a list of recommended or not recommended browsers? Maybe some pros and cons of each.
View 12 Replies View RelatedMaybe i'm not really seeing anything that stick out to me but could someone please give me an answer.
Whats the difference between a 2.0.1 ROM and 2.1 ROM?
I've been rooted for awhile and always stuck with either AdamZ ROM or Pete's Bugless Beast and they were all based off of 2.0.1. Is there something special I need to do in order to run a ROM based off of 2.1?
Just left AT&T and had FLOTV on my Samsung eternity. I love my droid but miss watching songbook on long drives.
View 9 Replies View Relatedmight as well suggest this now but could we get a sub forum for roms since birdman broke motorola.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had my Droid since February and have it rooted. I've been using Smoked Glass v6.0.1 ROM and now I'm ready to change things up. I have ROM manager premium but I'm too overwhelmed by all the choices. I've been trying to research the different ROMs out there but there are too many.
Can we make a list here of what ROMs do what? For instance I've read Bugless Beast is great for speed but Ultimate Droid is better if you want looks and don't care about speed. Don't even get me started on CyanogenMod. There are way to many options with that one.
In here you can put what rom you are running and all the info, OC range kernels all that, and a screen shot of the main home screen. and you can discuss on which one is better. what one has that the other doesn't and etc.... i like talking about all that for some reason.
I'm running CYANOGEN MOD 5.0.5 W/ 24K THEME AND OC RANGE OF 1000-800MHZ. I have in the past run simmply stunning and smoked glass and droid mod and the desire build roms. i find cyanogen to be the smoothest and most customizable to me. I also like the updater its all very easy to use.
cons: i dont like clockwork recovery, im use to SPRecovery.
All in all CYANOGEN MOD IS THE BEST TO ME.
Can you make voice calls with BT using 2.1 ROMS? Or does that feature still not exist?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI rooted my X with the androot, downloaded all of the apps that was in the app list to get once rooted, downloaded FlyX and installed, however once the phone restarted, stuck on the big M luckily i had a backup ready to go so i restored the phone, last night however i wasnt so lucky, i tried the new 2.3 update, and well lets say big M for 30 mins til i was able to flash it back to stock. i know i am doing these steps the correct way, i make a backup each time, and i check the cache data.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI decided its time for me to root, ive enjoyed stock droid for a while, but now i want more!
I understand how to root, that isnt the issue,
Im not sure how to install custom roms. I really want to use Droidmod 1.0
I dled it, it comes as a .tgz file. How do i go about installing it?
i had a droid rooted with smoked glass and i now have a droid x im looking for a good rom something like the smoked glass.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just got my refurb today and it wont let me install the smoked glass roms neither v4 or v5. i rooted the phone with no problems. and i had smoked glass running perfect on my other phone.
I go to "advanced nandroid restore" then "choose backup" and i choose the smoked glass rom then the phone says: "nandroid exited with status 25." and if i try to use the backup rom i made it says "nandroid exited with status 21". any ideas? ive tried several times today with same results.
I'm rooted, and swap roms, backup everything pretty confidently (thanks again to Joe for helping me get in the pool).
But there are some things I don't understand. I really want to go to a 2.1 ROM. I've tried a few with verying degrees of happyness, and some of the later ones I've tried just send me through enless reboot cycles. I've tried Pete's new one (figuring if anybody put out something dependable it would be him) and though it boots up FAST and runs great, after playing around for a while it sends me through reboot cycles and freezes up.
I always follow all instructions to the "T", so it makes no sense that others are having success when I am not. Is there some other process that I have to go through that are just unspoken "common sense" steps among the more advanced users that aren't outlined in install instructions? Or am I just supposed to let the phone do it's thing for a while after installing? It just makes me nervouse when it is looping through 3-5 reboots in a row.
Does rooting and installing ROMs void my warranty and insurrance I have with my Motorola Droid?
How exactly do I root the Droid?
How do I install ROMs?
Are there any ROMs recommended to try?
What are the feature differences of a vanilla 2.2 ROM and BuglessBeast?
I'm looking into putting a Rom on my OTA 2.2 Droid. After doing a bit of searching it seems like you can only do install SPRecovery and whatnot only via Linux or Windows.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm new to installing custom roms so I have a question when using rom manager after I download the rom and check the two boxes the phone goes into recovery mode and I'm not sure what I have to do after that my screen just shows a phone with an exclamation mark next to it what do I have to do after that?
View 7 Replies View Relatedcoming from moto droid rooted, rom manager, setcpu, all that. got the x on release day. i know we can root and oc now, but are there any custom roms that will work with the droid x ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got my droid (ONLY the droid, no battery, backplate, or charger) lol. I know irritating right. Well since I have a couple days before everything comes that I need, i am contemplating on which ROM to put on it. I have done some reading and seems that the majority of people are happy with BB (right?)
But my question is:
What about Kernals? I have heard to flash new Kernals for overclocking and such, but should I flash a different Kernal or do the ROMS already have the fastest Kernal installed on them? Not sure if this question makes sense, but I'm just trying to get the fastest ROM & Kernal available for my Droid.
If I use on of the roms will I be able to keep all the contacts and apps on my rooted 2.1? If not how do I back it up.This would be extremely helpful.

My buddy is new to the whole root process and went about rooting his Droid and installing a custom ROM....but I think he's flashing a ROM for a different phone as the links he sent me were for a Nexus One ROM.
So..out of curriosity, if he flashes the ROM (I assume they're in update zips like the Droid) using Clockwork, whats happened (going to happen) to his phone? The only reason I ask if because I haven't gotten a text from him since he said he was gonna start messing with the ROM and he isn't answering his phone, so I assume the worst. Has he bricked his new toy or can I RSD him back to life?
