Motorola Droid X :: App To Make Sleep Button?
Sep 7, 2010
I tried the market and searched google (only to find apps that help you sleep lol). I'm looking for a way to set a button on the home screen to press and put the phone to sleep instead of having to push the top button all the time.

I like being able to wake the phone to view the lock screen using the home button at the bottom of the phone, but is there any way to make it so that a second click of that button, or a click of one of the others down there, will make it sleep again? Having to press the power button up top is just an inconvenience.

Can't seem to get my send/end button to "go home then to sleep". It will only "go to sleep". Is there a way to get the send/end button to "go home then to sleep" with 2.1?

Mine feels a little loose, and it make a rattle sound, am i the only one with this? its like the plastic isnt tight or something, but when you press it its nice and firm to "click" up or down.
also the bottom of the screen/whole left side where the KB is kind of dips down about a hundreth or tenth of an inch wen you press something on the screen on that side, im guessing thats normal for a slider.

Anybody out there see what I'm seeing? It seems as if the power/sleep button is a bit more recessed than the phone/talk button that pops out a little more. Could this just be from heavier use since I am always hitting the sleep button after phone use? Or, is this a HTC design to prevent you from hitting the button as easily. Not really a huge difference here just enough to feel if you run your finger over both of them. Wondering if it will get lower over time? Good ol' ocd flaring up again.

This would fix my only complaint about the phone! It's quite annoying when I'm in a call and doing something else on the phone, and I lose the soft end call button and can't hang up.

Usually the phone is awake, and when you lower it the phone lights up for numeric input (love that feature).
But after a minute or so it locks. You have to push power button before you can enter numbers- annoying. Is there a "keep alive" option I'm not seeing?
On a similar note, is there a way to make the phone lock automatically (like an app)? It's also annoying to have to manually lock it: I'd rather keep waking it up (if it was indeed idle and not running a program) than forget to lock it and dial/message everyone in my contact list from my pocket.

Anyone else having a problem of not having the screen turn on when you press the power button from sleep? It doesn't happen often but it does happen. This is my second Captivate as my last one would shut itself off randomly and that phone also had this problem.Yes, I make sure I pressed the power button and waited a couple seconds to make sure it just wasn't lag but I can guarantee you it is not. Like I said, it doesn't happen all the time but maybe once every 2 days. I'm guessing it's a slight problem with other users as it happened on my last phone but I'm not sure. Hopefully it's a software issue.

I am not rooted and I don't have 2.2. Have wifi, bluetooth, etc off. I have spare parts. I was losing 20-30% battery overnight with my phone fully charged at 100% so went into spare parts in battery history and it said the phone was running 100% for 12 hours. So to test it today I plugged it in, charged it to 100%, unplugged it, killed all tasks (even task manager), shut the screen off and sat it down for 2 hours. When I turned it on it was at 80% and spare parts said runnning 100 and when I click that it says "time spent without sleeping 2hrs (99.99025592487624%)

For some odd reason my phone will not "sleep". The screen just stays on. The only way I can get it to sleep and the screen to lock is to push the power buton on top of the phone. I have the screen set to time out at 1 minute. I have searched and read but no real answers for this phone.

If I hit the power button to shut off the screen, does it sleep immediately? Or is there a time limit? I ask because when my screen is off for a little while, I stop receiving notifications for text and emal, battery is in performance mode.

I'm using a datepicker in Android to let the user to choose the date. I want it to do one thing if the user picks a date and sets it (I have that working fine) and then to clear a certain text field if the user pushes the cancel button on the datepicker (open up the datepicker but then cancel out of it).
The way I've been trying is by making a code...
to attach the listener.
My problem is that the listener works if the user pushes the back button, but not if they push the cancel button. I tried using a dismiss listener, and that works, except for the fact that it goes off even whether I set or cancel the datepicker!
What do I need to do so something goes off if and only if I push the cancel button on my datepicker?

I apologize if these topics were already covered in previous threads.I wasn't able to find anything related in my searches. Auto-rotation for keyboard when answering a text message received in sleep mode does not work. If I actively send a text when phone is already awake, keyboard rotates with no problem but when I go to reply to a text that I received while phone is in sleep mode, the keyboard does not rotate. Is this the norm?I am also experiencing a delay when the I wake the phone. After unlocking the phone, I used to go straight to my home page, now I get a "loading" message which takes several seconds. Is this due to the number of apps I have loaded? Is it possibly due to number of photo frames I have on my home screen or the complexity of the wallpaper?

So I'm currently running the newest rubix build with the leaked version, but I've had this problem with other roms before this. I notice sometimes my phone just wont go to sleep and no matter what I cant figure out why. I dont have any crazy apps or services running in the background and in fact I think my wifi is part of the problem. For example, today I've had the phone off the charger for about 3 hours. I just checked it, and despite my screen only being on for about 30 mins (also no streaming or background data being used that I know of) my phone was running the entire time (100% reading in spare parts). I also noticed my wifi use in battery manager was high so I shut of wifi and of course the phone finally goes to sleep almost immediately after. I can't replicate this problem everytime although I havent fully tried, but I do know I've had a similar problem before on other roms. Am I missing something as to why wifi is preventing my phone from sleeping?

What is a good way to find what app is causing the phone not to sleep. I charged the phone last night while on, unplugged this morning and according to Spare Parts, my phone has been running 100%. I've also got System Panel Lite and Battery Left, but I'll be damned if I can't tell what the offending app is. Battery is on Smart Mode, Time Outs are set to 15 min for both Off Peak and Peak.
Good news is 9 hours 36 minutes and I'm still at 50% with an extended Battery and I've done quite a bit of Market searching and downloading, had a few phone calls, sent a few texts, checked the news widget, checked emails, and checked the old facepage a dozen times. (slow day at work)
Anyway, anyone have a good way to check for offending applications?

back with 2.1 there was the issue with GPS, and once it was activated not allowing the phone to "sleep." You could see the results of this in the "Battery History" screen that Spare Parts would give you.First of all this does not seem to be fixed with 2.2 unless im missing something in my settings, and actually it seems to have gotten worse.Even when i change my WiFi Sleep Policy to turn off when "screen is off" it seems as though the phone cannot go to sleep, and my Wifi is not turning off as it should.

Okay so I seem to have a new sleep issue on 2.2. I also had this same issue with the leaked 2.2. This is what happens. My phone will be okay for maybe a day or even a day and a half. it also might occur after only a few hours. Phone will be sleeping fine and then all the sudden I notice my running time is increasing, even when the phone should be sleeping. Then the next day and every day after my running time is at 100% until I do a reboot on the phone. Here is the odd thing with this. If I go to partial wake usage there isn't anything there causing it. All the partial wake things are very small like they should be. With the GPS issue it was Android System that was causing the phone not to sleep and it was obvious. With this issue there is nothing showing in partial wake. I've also seen a few others post replies in certain threads with this issue. I've tried doing a wipe and starting over and that was last night. Within about 6 hours or so off the charger today the issue was already back. We also have another Droid X in the household and I took a look at it tonight and it's also running 100% since off charger and nothing really showing up in partial wake. I'd just like to see how many others are seeing this and hopefully someone can be smart enough to figure out what's causing it. I can't say for sure if I'm actually seeing a battery impact or not. Battery still seems decent to me. It's just very annoying knowing it's not working the way it's supposed to.

I tried searching for this but couldn't find a thread that discussed it. My power button appears as though its been jammed. I dropped my phone on its corner where the power button is but I don't think thats what the problem is. Anyhow, recently my power button responds but I have to really press it hard and it as though the button is jammed cause it doesn't depress as far.
My question is that is there a way to designate the camera button to become the power button? I know on some phones you can make different buttons do different things and I was curious if this was possible on the Droid.

Have it plugged in and set for stay on while charging and set to full brightness, but it keeps dimming after a few seconds. Doesn't go off, but dims significantly until touched. I want it to do what I say, stay on whatever brightness setting I have while charging, period.
