Aug 4, 2010Is there a way to remove the voice commands or shut it off?

View 2 RepliesI use a headset with a microphone for Pandora. It has a media button on it that when pushed, will pause or play the Pandora app or accept a phone call in which case Pandora is paused. However, pushing the button with the X brings up the voice command window. Is there anyway to disable or remove this app altogether? If it can be removed, I want to be sure that this app is not associated with the talk to text feature, which I use and like. is there any way to disable or remove this application from the X?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was watching TV, and playing with my phone, and saw a commercial that mentioned how you can launch certain apps and do certain actions via voice commands. I had forgotten about that frankly, and have only used it to navigate before. So I tried to launch a song. No go.
So, after a very brief google search, I found this:
Just speak it: introducing Voice Actions for Android - Official Google Mobile Blog
I updated the voice search app (even though it didn't show up in market without the direct link), and tried again to launch a song. Again, no go.
Apparently it only works with online radio apps like Pandora. It doesn't work with the Music player that comes with the damn phone! I mean seriously, how stupid is it that you can't tell it to play a song from your SD card but you can call up a radio channel (and not actually get to hear that song)?
Anyone know any other ones besides "Navigate To" and "Call"?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI found some hidden programs for Moto Droid. Open Voice Dialer (Not Voice Search) and say
1. Open APN
opens APN settings
2. Open SIM Card Lock
opens sim card lock settings.
3. Open Battery Info
opens detail battery information
(Note I'm referring to the google Voice Search utility, not the Voice Dialer utlity)
So far: I've confirmed that 3 special voice commands work on my Droid X:
CODE:............
However, there are supposed to be more (from my research), but none of the following is working:
"Call <contact> mobile/work/home/etc" to call that contact
"Dial <number> " to dial the number
Has anyone discovered any other working voice commands?
This has been an issue since the first day after I installed all my apps via appbrain (roughly 300). It takes ~36 seconds for it to open. I am starting to think I am the only one experiencing this. Does anyone have any ideas?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been playing around with the new voice commands in Froyo (Sending Txts, Calls, etc.), and I've noticed that while the feature is cool in theory, it seems to fail in practice. To be more specific, the Voice software can't seem to recognize any name that isn't John Smith, David Samuels, etc.
As an example, I have repeated tried to use it to text a friend of mine who's name is Ryanna (pronounced like the singer). I have tried using "Ree-ahna", "Ree-anna", "Rye-anna", "Rye-ahna", and other methods of pronouncing it, but all of them fail. The software doesn't even bother to take a guess!
Is there any way to "train" the software to better recognize names?
I was just wondering if the Droid can handle voice commands such as "Play Music", "Party Shuffle", "Play (Artist)", "Play (Song)", "Play (Album)", "Open Email", "Play (Video)", etc, etc; or if there are plans for this in the future firmware? I personally could make use of this, especially "Play (Artist)". I tried to make it play a song and it called my grandma ):
Also, can anyone tell me the difference between voice search and voice dialer? It seems like when I use voice dialer, I say "Call Home" and a list of options pops up of who to call (one choice being Home) (When I wish it would have just automatically called Home), but if I use voice search it automatically does call Home.
Don't know much about ROMS, kernels, etc but I managed to root my Droid last week thanks to theoverclockr instructions. I took it from stock 2.1 back to 2.0.1 via RSDlite, to 2.1 rooted, loaded the Android 2.2 and the 1.2 ghz kernal. Works great.
Here's where my questions start:
Everyone talks about Bugless Beast like its the best thing ever so I want to try it. I assume I can install that at my current state and not lose everything plus still be running 2.2 froyo?
I am guessing this is how I do it, please tell me if I am correct or not -
1. Turn my phone on in recovery, select android, then backup.
2. Download Clockwork Mod
3. Chose Flash ClockworkMod Recovery
4. Download BB4 and save it to the root of my SD card
5. Restart phone in recovert, select Wipe data/factory reset
6. Select Wipe cache partition
7. Install zip BB from sd card
8. Reboot
Now, IF that goes right, I am assuming I will still have everything, apps, etc from before just a different Rom? Whats the exact difference anyway between stock 2.2 Froyo and BB4?
If that goes wrong, I assume I restore my backup? I'm guessing you do that through recovery too?
Question #2 - What is the battery widget/app that everyone has on here that still displays your battery in the status bar but has a number % of charge in the battery?
Question #3 - Can anyone give me a simple guide on how to remove Facebook, Twitter and Visual Voice Mail. I see everyone talking about tying in commands, removing this and that but I have no idea what program to use to do this, where to do it, etc.
Question #4 - With SetCPU, it looks like with my 1.2 ghz kernel, I can underclock it back to 600 or whatever I want? I am also assuming that I can have the min and max at 1200000 and have it super fast but a battery hog?
Question #5 - Where do I get this benchmark/quadrant score everyone talks about to see how my phone stacks up to everyone elses?
One of the great features of the the 4th soft button is to hold it down to bring up the voice search prompt. A this prompt there are several commands that are extremely helpful, such as: "Navigate to <place>" opens Google Navigation and gives you directions to <place> "Call <contact> work/home/etc" will call that contact. (Is there a way to set a default so that you can just say "Call <contact>" and it automatically calls that person's cell/home/work?) "Locate.../Map of.../Find..." will all open and search google maps.
"Driections to <place>" will open google maps and give you directions to <place> "Look up <place/thing/etc>" will do a google search
Now that we have Bluetooth Dialing working, does anyone know of printed instructions anywhere? With WinMo 6.1, you could simply say "Help", and it would tell you a list of commands. does 2.2 only allow for voice dialing and nothing more?

View 4 Replies View RelatedHTC Desire, Android 2.2, new Google Voice Search
Several commands - 'send text to', 'send mail to', 'note to self' and 'go to' - are missing. They are not parsed, and they do not appear in the Help list when voice search is launched.
Is this because I don't use the standard HTC message, mail and browser apps, by any chance? (But they are still on the phone, of course.)
I noticed that if I just speak a web search, it launches the HTC browser, whereas Dolphin is my dafault browser.
Either through an application or on the default music player?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure I get Google and the Android strategy regarding music. Android has largely removed support for SD cards. Most phone makers are no longer including SD cards. It would appear that for large music libraries, Google wants us to use the cloud, yet....... I can't do a simple voice command to play music stored in the cloud rather than on the device. The results come back with "no results found". The only time it finds the music is when it is actually on the device.
So, I can either constantly have to manually manage a play list (since 32gig is not nearly enough space) or not use voice commands. I don't get it.
So I just got the Samsung Galaxy S4. Whenever I try to use S Voice, it never listens to my commands. If I press the microphone button S-Voice immediately says "I didn't hear that. Please say it again" with literally NO time for me to ever say a single thing. Also, saying "Hi Galaxy" never gets it to pick up on me either.

When I hook up this phone via the audio jack it repeatedly asks for voice commands instead of just going into playing some music.. anyone know of any setting to maybe disable this or some way to correct it?
My DroidX has been rooted for a couple of days now and I'm loving that new features that I can utilize. However, I didn't check my phone for a couple of hours and when I took it out to send a text I realized that my phone was shut off. Has anybody encountered this same issue? I didn't even have to hold my power button to start it back up. I simply pressed it like I was waking it up and it showed the power up symbol.Update: When starting up, it did not show the Motorola symbol but skipped ahead to the "Droid" sign.
View 2 Replies View Relatedok before you all say "why shut it down, its better using wi-fi" i know that and i have my reasons. moving on, i have tried several times now to turn off the wi-fi on my droid, both thru the power control widget and also by going thru settings-wireless-wi-fi turn off wi-fi. but for some reason it keeps coming back on. is the droid set to automatically turn on the wife when ever there is one avail even if i dont want it too? is there some hidden setting i am not seeing.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter 10 years of Blackberry I made the switch to a Droid X six days ago.
Twice in the last 6 days my phone has shut down and become completely unresponsive.
The first time was the first time I powered it off. When I attempted to power it on the phone would only show me the Motorola logo and do nothing else.
A battery pull fixed it.
The second time it went dead was as I unhooked it from my computer USB...it's a PC and I "dismounted" the phone manually first...but then...nothing....
A battery pull fixed it again.
So. That's a long way of asking: is two 'dead' experiences in 6 days leading to two battery pulls normal? Should I take it back while I can?
Had a problem with my alarm clock this morning. It went off @ one of the alarm times I have (although I could swear it wasn't checked to be on for today). But then I could not shut it off. Tried hitting nearly ever button both physical and virtual and the damned alarm wouldn't stop. I eventually just shut it off and turned it back on and that did the trick. Did I miss a step in how to turn alarm off?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've seen a couple of threads about how to turn off different radios and data connections but does anyone know how I'd go about shutting off everything except for wifi? Pretty much what I want is airplane mode with wifi still on. (Or does airplane mode still allow you to turn on wifi?)

View 6 Replies View RelatedThe GPS icon is now always on my notification area. This has only been happening for the past couple of days. Previously, it would come on when in use (e.g. using Google Maps or some other application that was using the GPS) and then would disappear when the application terminated.
I used Taskiller to terminate all running applications, but the GPS icon was still on after I killed ALL of the running applications. So, I'm assuming that it's not because of a new, or updated, application I installed.
It doesn't appear to be causing any problems, but wonder if it's really on and draining the battery more than necessary. Also, it was a reminder to me that I'd left an application running that was using the GPS.
Is anyone else seeing this?
Does anyone know how I can change something in the settings to remove the +1 in front of all of my incoming numbers?
Example: +1(555)555-5555
When someone leaves me a message and i press callback it calls that number and Verizon wont recognize that +1 extension in front of the area code.
battery went dead and shut phone off. i put it on the charger and i cant turn it back on. i pulled the battery and everything. whats going on? It died while i was on the internet.
