I just wanted to point out a feature I discovered today. LauncherPro has the option to have 5 rows of apps and widgets on each home screen rather than the default 4. On the huge Droid X screen, this looks amazing and does not look over-crowded at all. Though it doesn't look good in landscape mode, but I don't care about that for my home screen.

I posted this in another section, but it may be more appropriate here. I'm really new to the Droid. Just getting started.Today, I got a case for it, when I got home I took it out of the case and the dialer, launcher and contact icons, which were along the bottom, were suddenly instead down the right side. Plus, in the apps tray, I had 4 apps across, but now there are seven apps across.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am working on a new layout for my UI and I am running into an icon issue. I am using LauncherPro and I want to use a different icon for actual app launcher. The icon I want to use is actually a bookmark icon for ING Direct (it is a small, orange circle). The only way I can get it to work is if I modify the settings to "swype up" for application launch. Unfortunately, if I press the icon I am taken to the ING direct website. Is there a way to pull the icon out of my phone somehow in order to use it as a 'custom icon'?

I was so excited when LPP updated a while back and added the option for additional rows and columns....but it didn't resize things the way I wanted. I had hoped it would be tweeked and it seems better now but I'm still having an issue with Beautiful Widgets on the full size Home Weather. It doesn't fit the entire information completely with temp, etc. without pulling it down to fit across about 3 rows...which makes it look huge
Anyone else have this problem? Or should I just accept it and use the smaller Beautiful Home widget? And is there a way to resize the text size under the description of the app? I can remove it and kind of like it without it...but was curious if I'm missing something
Trying to find the App that lets you make Colums and rows on your home screen's. So you can have like 20 or more Apps per home screen. Can't for the life of me remember the name. Could you all help with this.

Maybe it contains content providers, or maybe it is a license key app that just needs to be present.What is the proper way to do that? If I don't have an <application> tag at all, that works, but I don't think that is the proper way, since <provider> and <receiver> are also inside <application>.But the user experience is *unacceptable*. Instead of being removed, the icon sticks around and says 'Application not installed' until they reboot their phone, or, more likely, go for the refund.

In particular I want the white font label on a black, semi-transparent background. As it should look the same as the launcher shortcut I wouldn't like too much to imitate the actual look, but to re-use/copy it. Any idea where I can get that?I checked the launcher app and found application-boxed.xml, but it doesn't seem to do what I want and I am probably way off anyway.

But, if I reboot my devices, it's ok.In the manifest, I just increase the android:versionCode and android:versionName but didn't change anything about my android:icon. But, I have new image in the folder drawable in 1.1.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an application built for 1.5 and I am adding higher resolution drawables to support hdpi devices in 1.6 and above.My original application icon is 48x48. I created a second launcher icon that is 72x72 and placed it in a res/drawable-hdpi/ directory.When I install the application on my Nexus One the icon looks good when I view it in the application menu.But when I place it on the desktop it appears small relative to other icons, my guess is I'm seeing the 48x48 version with no scaling.Do I need to do something differently either with my directory structure or my manifest file to get things to display correctly?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have tried numerous launchers and have found it difficult to find any launchers that allow you to go above 72x72 resolution for icons. The only one that would was Go Launcher EX and that simply scaled them up to a barely noticeable 82x82.
Is there a launcher which allows you to load icons that are say 100x100 and that does not scale them?
An application I'm developing requires that the app main a local list of things, let's say books, in a local "library." Users can access their local library of books and search for books using a remote web service. The app will be aware of other users of the app through this web service, and users can browse other users' lists of books in their library. Each book is identified by a unique bookId (represented as an int). When viewing books returned through a search result or when viewing another user's book library, the individual list row cells need to visually represent if the book is in the user's local library or not. A user can have at most 5,000 books in the library, stored in SQLite on the device (and synchronized with the remote web service). My question is, to determine if the book shown in the list row is in the user's library, would it be better to directly ask SQLite (via SELECT COUNT(*)...) or to maintain, in-memory, a List or int[] array of some sort containing the unique bookIds.
So, on each row display do I query SQLite or check if the List or int[] array contains the unique bookId? Because the user can have at most 5,000 books, each bookId occupies 4 bytes so at most this would use ~ 20kB. In thinking about this, and in typing this out, it seems obvious to me that it would be far better for performance if I maintained a list or int[] array of in-library bookIds vs. querying SQLite (the only caveat to maintaining an int[] array is that if books are added or removed I'll need to grow or shrink the array by hand, so with this option I'll most likely use an ArrayList or Vector, though I'm not sure of the additional memory overhead of using Integer objects as opposed to primitives).

This way if I use the DPAD the widget is focusable but the click doesn't work. The touch still works but the widget is not displayed as focused.
I was looking through the source code for launcher in git for the first time after asking this question. I got the UNINSTALL_SHORTCUT to work. However, this seems to remove it from the home screen.Maybe my vocabulary is not correct, but I assumed the "home" screen was the thing that displays widgets and shortcuts that you can fling left and right to see all 3 screens.set in the AndroidManifest.xml.What I need to do is remove the icon from the "launcher" not just removing a shortcut from the home screen.I don't know if I can programatically over-write what I have set in the Manifest. That is, I need it to initially be displayed in the "Launcher" but upon receiving a certain intent, to hide itself.In essence, to programatically remove the "android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" from it's category list set in the AndroidManifest.xml

View 1 Replies View RelatedJust wanted to report a potential issue with the Sprint HTC Hero. Me and a few friends have experienced an issue where if you:
1) install an application
2) update it or uninstall and reinstall
3) reboot your phone
Then on many applications, the launcher icon will be messed up as well as the name of the application under the icon. In many of these cases, this renders the application unusable including Google Sky and Pandora. If you then uninstall these applications and reinstall them they will work fine until you reboot your phone again. The problem doesn't seem to exist if you install the application the first time. Only does it exist if you update it and reboot or if you uninstall/reinstall and reboot. There is a fairly lengthy thread on the Android Developers mailing list regarding this. Google seems to think it is unique to the Hero itself since a stock Android device (ie: G1) doesn't have this problem. Other developers are experiencing the same thing.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe other night, something updated on my HTC One (running Venom with GoLauncher EX) and the icons got all jacked-up. Some Google apps reappeared on the dock, a widget got pushed on top of another, etc. It looks like when the Google apps updated, they felt the need to reinstall themselves on the dock -- not sure, but that's not my main question.
When all of this happened, I lost the "grid" looking icon that will show All Apps and I'm not sure how to get it back. At this time, I can only see the apps I've put on my "home" pages, and in order to see All Apps, I must do an "add" and browse that way.
How do I get the all-apps grid thing back?
Adding custom icon applications to GO Dev's online based Theme creator, i use on the fly to make a backup copy of app apk's in which to upload to their website, this should allow me to then change the icon for that app but every time i try to upload any apk file i get an error when actualizing the file!
