what mode are people running their battery? i just noticed that under smart mode, it turns off the 3g when the phone sleeps. does perf mode drain the battery noticeably faster?

Has anyone noticed that Silent mode - when accessed via the Widget that comes up when the power button is held - also turns vibrate off. One would think vibrate should stay on to alert an incoming call "silently"
I've been using Menu> Settings> Sound and Display to turn sound off and leave vibrate on. Does anyone know an easier way ?
From what I can tell, if you turn on WiFi the phone never sleeps even in standby mode. Is this a known issue or has anyone else noticed this. I noticed this using Spare Parts and turning off and on things until I saw it was wifi that keeps it awake.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI haven't been getting very good battery life (less than one day with VERY minimal actual use). I installed Android System Info and went to DashBoard, then Battery, then History. If I select "Other usage" and "Since last unplugged" it shows "Running" as 100%. When I click on the "Running" bar it says "Time spent without sleeping: 14h 43m 15s (100%)". So it looks like it hasn't gone to sleep at all since I unplugged it.
7 of those 14+ hours was spent sitting on my desk at work and 90% or more of the rest of the time was spent either in my jacket pocket or sitting on the table at home. I spent maybe 30 mins reading texts and browsing the market and didn't do anything else with the phone all day.
Should it not have gone to sleep for at least some of that time? Could this be why the battery is pretty much dead by the end of the day? Is there a way to figure out why it's not going to sleep at all?
I previously had my gchat setup to be online all the time.. for some reason, I get logged off when my phone sleeps, or within a short preiod of time after my phone sleeps. I also do not get email notifications when the screen is off. I have to unlock the screen to get my updates now. Any idea how to change this back?I was also wondering about how to change the frequency of checking email and other updates, etc. to save some battery life

I want this as my phone mostly locks itself into GPRS (2G/2.5G) mode in my area where 3G is available but often low signal strength. Usually I switch it by going through the menu.
Settings --> Wireless & networks --> Mobile networks --> Network Mode (and switch it from "GSM / WCDMA auto" to "WCDMA only"
Is there anyway to do this through a widget? Like the widgets that let you turn on and off bluetooth/wi-fi. I've looked through android market and haven't found anything yet. Does one exist if not is it not to difficult to make an app that does this.
When i receive a message, it automatically changes the setting of my phone to Vibrate mode.
I turn it off and set it to normal, when i receive an SMS it changes to Vibrate and i dont hear my ringtone. I'm using CM10

i have a galaxy w with cm9 recently flashed. it was awesome at first, everything was working, etc. but recently, or now the phone keeps restarting before i even get to the lock screen.(i cant get into cwm too!) also, the phone turns on itself when i put on the battery. so is it a problem with the rom or is it a power button issue?

For some reason my phone will be asleep for just a short time, then I click to wake it up and my notification shows up then, but if I hadnt woke the phone up it wouldnt alert me even though its set to check and notify. This happening to anyone else?
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy screen turns black when i wake up my phone. frequent reboots, that it does on it's on, not to mention the lines showing up across my screen. this phone has never been dropped and has a screen protector and case on it. looks like i'll be calling verizon for a replacement - totally unacceptable, but understandable considering it's a new phone.. and it seems these days things are being rushed out the door.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just (within the past couple of days) noticed that my Battery Mode doesn't seem to be working. When I go into Battery Manager to select the Battery Mode, none of the selections highlight when I try to select them. I had been using Power Saver mode but it looks like all the buttons are grayed out. Anyone else notice this or have the same issue? I powered down and did a battery pull, but that didn't fix the problem. I don't want to do a reset because it's not that big of a deal to me but it would be nice to get it fixed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedNight before last, I charged the battery to 100% before I went to sleep. When I was going to sleep, I unplugged it. When I woke up 7 hours later, it had only dropped 30% to 70%. I did the software upgrade, and the battery jumped back up to 80% and lasted a Long time. Well, last night, I did the same thing, and when I woke up, my battery had dropped to 50%. The phone was supposedly sleeping this whole time! A few minutes on the browser to look up the issue brought me down to 40%.
All I installed yesterday was YellowPages, WhitePages, Flikie (then uninstalled it) and LauncherPro (could this be the culprit?). Before I went to bed though, I opened GMail, and it was having trouble connecting to the server and finally gave me a "retry" button because it couldn't connect. I never pressed it and just went to sleep. WiFi, GPS, everything was off, and the screen was set to lowest brightness (which doesn't even matter here.) Why it dropped so much?
I am new to smartphones and thought that this might be good for others who are new and don't have the unlimited data plan grandfathered in to know.

By default the wi-fi setting is set to go to sleep (and use cellular data instead) when the screen is off, which will most likely happen while you are streaming music as well as other things. To change it so the wi-fi never turns off, to into the phone's menu -> wireless and network -> wi-fi settings -> tap the menu button and select advanced which has an option for wi-fi sleep policy that had been defaulted to sleep "when screen turns off". There you have the option to change it to "never" or "never when plugged in".
Up time & awake time are always the same, even when phone sits for hours untouched. "Data Always On" is checked off.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm on Virgin Mobile, LB Optimus F3 4G LTE (it wasn't an option in the forums, so I came here instead). Not sure if this is an Android feature or an LG feature.
Anyway, this thing called "Quiet Mode" will randomly turn itself on at nighttime or in the middle of the day with no warning and silence all sounds and block calls from all contacts. This is obviously frustrating. I'm not bumping it in my pocket or anything -- you can't even turn this mode on without unlocking the screen and scrolling all the way over in my top pull-down bar. For instance, it's been sitting on the chair next to me for the last two hours and I just checked it and it's been in Quiet Mode for who knows how long.
I can add contacts to the allowed calls list, but I still won't hear the ring, and I can only add a limited number of contacts. Also, all the writing within this mode is really poor English, which is odd. Example: "Please mind that incoming calls with exactly the same numbers with below list will only be allowed." Anyway, it can be scheduled for certain times and I'm going to try scheduling it for just one minute from 4:00 - 4:01 AM every night and see if that satiate its compulsion to be in control.
Any ways I can keep it from doing this otherwise? It doesn't appear to be an app that I can fiddle with.
I have a Star A3 running 2.3.4
I am running Ttorrent Pro on the phone, and the speeds are less than impressive (everyone else says the same thing) I am on a very fast connection, using speed guide I literally max out the speedtest servers in my local area (20Mb up/down which is the max they let you go to, I would get 100/100 if my speedtest server would allow it) and I have a port forwarded correctly.
but anyways, what I have noticed is, when wake the phone, and open the torrent application the speeds are down to around 3Kbps if I leave it open the speeds immediately start ramping up to 200-300Kbps if I keep it awake.
So this makes me think, when the phone is sleeping a lot of the connections are being closed, or when the phone is asleep it won't try and open new connections to new peers (and the current peer list may go stale while its asleep)
this is with all torrents, now the exact same torrent on another PC with a DSL connection (3Mb down 300Kb up) is downloading faster than the phone.
Are there any developers out there than can explain what processes are going to sleep that may be useful to keep awake for downloading, and also what are the tcp limits on the phone, ie. max open connections, max half open etc?
I had flashed my mobile to I7500XEFJB2 yesterday. Thanks to the wonderful instructions from most of you folks that actually made this possible!!
However, One thing i observed ever since i had installed this firmware is the phone is awake 100% of the time and never has gone to sleep when checked in "Spareparts" .
The only apps i had actually installed were GOGGLES, Advanced task manager, Seesmic for twitter, Google Voice, Advanced task killer. Now i have actually uninstalled GOGGLES, Advanced task manager to check if they were keeping my phone awake (will revert back if this shows improvement ).
Ive noticed that when im not using the gps, (ie: no apps requesting it) the icon goes away. Does it turn off the GPS or put it into a power save mode? I thought in 2.1 as long as the gps was enabled, the icon was on.

About 2-3 times a week, while on the phone, ill hear the start up sound of my eris, still talking to people on the phone, look and the eris has restarted, but im still on the phone. eventually it will cut off the call and finish starting up....has anyone had this problem. I thought it might be a problem with one of the apps, so i reformated back to like new, and ran it for 2 days before it did it again. Thanks

Every day a few times a day i will look at the info bar at the top and the media player will be playing songs. No sound is playing, but it is rolling through my MP3s.Any way to stop this?I've even killed it in Task Killer, but it will start back up even without a power down or battery pull.Not sure if is using battery life, but it is a bit annoying.
