Motorola Droid :: Contacts - Google Contacts And Backup
Nov 6, 2009I have contacts in my phone that Verizon brought over from my last phone (a regular phone phone... I carry a BB for work, have for years. I also have Google Contacts I spent hours getting in order in anticipation of getting this device. I can not, for the life of me, figure out how to back up the contacts now only on the droid to the cloud OR how to get the Google contacts information down to the phone. What I want to do is keep them in Sync and do the cleanup from a laptop/desktop one time, once the nasty merge happens.

Aug 16, 2010Trying to learn all I can about the Rooted Droid. I've tried a couple of great ROMS, but each time I download and install a new one, I'm following the instructions and wiping everything. Although I thought I'd backed up appropriately with Titanium, my contacts always revert back to when I first bought the phone - they obviously didn't get backed up. Am I just missing something in Titanium, or is there a better way to save contacts and things like that? Also, are all of you literally starting from scratch each time you reboot with a new ROM - i.e. Are you literally having to start the "Welcome to the Droid", signin to Gmail, etc. screens or am I the only one?

The backup assistant costs $1.99 a month, or something like that, but is waived if on Premium plan.I'll be dropping down to the "Connect" plan since don't need VZ-Navigator option anymore, which would mean I'd have to start paying the $1.99 for Backup Assistant, or I assume for FREE sync to Google contacts?

Apr 2, 2010I'm on the edge up upgrading to 2.1, went through and did the steps up to putting the zip on the card. There's one thing concerning me though. It says to do a factory reset. Will this purge/delete any contacts that were entered as "phone" (versus "Google")? I have several contacts, from work, that I entered as phone. I'm looking for a way to back everything up. Looked through the sd card files and didn't see anything. I ran ContactSync app from the market, said it would move all contacts from "Phone" to "Google," on the actual phone it did, but when I check Google contacts directly, they don't exist. Is there a manual method to create a .csv file from everyone in the phone to have a more tangible backup copy? I've tried doing HTC Sync, but the program seems like trash. It doesn't connect to the eris and no way of forcing it to look for the phone. Tried running with USB debug on/off, and sd card mounted/nonmounted.

Sep 30, 2010I have the root app Titanium Backup. When I root my friends' phones, I like giving them all my root apps with a quick transfer of my SD card app backups from AppControl.
BUT, I have never been able to find the backup file for Titanium Backup. I realize they can just download it from the Market, but where I work I get no service so I can't download it for hours for them.
Does AppControl or even Titanium Backup itself actually back up Titanium Backup? It seems almost like they skip over the APK because I can never find any backed up APK files that have the words "Titanium" or "Backup" in it. I've never been able to find the file!
Motorola Droid :: Data Backup - Not An App Backup
Feb 23, 2010I DLed Titanium Backup, but it wasn't obtaining root access. I read here that I probably need to update to a newer version of BB. After a bit of a fight, I finally managed to get BB 0.4 onto my Droid. I figured I was safe b/c I have Lookout, which also backs up data. Yeah, it backs up contacts and pix, that's it. So here I am w/ a nice, shiny new rom, and a completely wiped phone.
Now, I know my old info is still there. I know I could just recover into my last version. But then I wouldn't be on this rom. Is there any way for me to get that info on here, or do I have to do everything manual? Or could I restore the old version, and not need to do a wipe when flashing the new rom?
Man, no matter what I good I start to feel about myself w/ what I've already learned from you guys, I'm quickly reminded that I'm barely scratching the surface.
HTC Droid Eris :: Backup Contacts For Update
Jan 3, 2010I wanted to manually upgrade my eris but I wanted to back up all my contacts first. I find out the HTC sync doesn't work with windows 7 =[ I tried for about 2 hours and gave up on that one. I noticed you could sync your phone with your gmail account you used on the phone. Only I forgot which one that is I don't ever use gmail so I don't know what email I made. I really want to update it because I'm so impatient but I don't want to have to redo all my contacts.

Sep 20, 2010I have two groups of contacts "MyContacts" and "Utilities". When I set up synching I selected to copy "All contacts".
Unfortunatey, when I look what's on my area on sonyericsson.com/wportal I see only the contacts from the group "MyContacts".
I.e. the site creates a false feeling of security - if I need to restore my phone from this site I will irrecovarebly lose lots of data.
I don't know is SE forgot to test their function or Android-hackers don't understand the features of the contacts.
All area of handling the contacts stinks seriously, and mkes you wander if the Android people ever used a mobile phone :
1. X10 does not accept contacts sent via SMS (VCARD-format), (or via MMS or bluetooth)
2. X10 does not sync with Outlook where most of business people have their contacts, and maintain them when receiving corporate mails etc.
3. The only way to get the contacts is to export from PC to a csv-file and import to gmail, and then sync to the phone. This is not that flexible due the export via csv. I.e. If I create cntacts in the phone they will not reach Outlook.
General :: Backup Facebook Synced Contacts With Gmail Contacts?
Oct 12, 2011I am using 2.3.5 android and my contacts are in google contacts. I have also added my facebook account and some contacts are synced between both accounts.I use titanium backup pro for my backups but I cannot restore the linked synced (after some reboots, the stop being synced)
Is there anyway to make and restore a backup if the sync contacts information) using titanium backup pro or other app?
Motorola Droid :: Contacts Only Syncing To Google All Contacts Not My Contacts
Jan 16, 2010I seem to be having a sync issue with my Droid.When I add a contact to my phone, it doesn't sync into "My contacts" in Gmail; it'll sync into "All contacts". So, a couple of questions:
1) How can I get the phone to add new contacts created on my Droid into "My contacts" in Gmail?
2) I'm trying to understand the point of "All contacts". Why does Gmail want to keep a list of anyone that I've ever sent an email to? Otherwise, it'll be simple enough to just merge the two groups and call it a day.(Note: When I bought my Droid I did NOT have the VZW sales person transfer my contacts or any data from my old Blackberry to my Droid. I used Google Sync on my BB and synced my contacts from my BB to Gmail, then when I got the Droid, it automatically pulled my contacts from Gmail.)(FWIW, yes, I did a search and found two great threads: http://androidforums.com/support-troubleshooting/15042-how-do-i-push-droid-contacts-back-gmails-my-contacts.html and http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/15069-contacts-dont-really-synchronize.html but I have a different situation than most of those guys and I'd actually prefer to sift through and merge a couple of contacts from "All contacts" to "My contacts" every once in a while than deal with a backup and factory reset.)
Motorola Droid X :: Facebook Contacts Linked To Phone Contacts Missing Options
Jul 17, 2010I got my DroidX on 7/15 and on 7/16 linked all my phone contacts who have facebook to a facebook contact via social networking. I kike how the phone sets the picture, I like that in the contact entry it shows me thier status on facebook. What I don't like is that when I open up a contac that is both a phone contact and a facebook contact and I tap the facebook icon on the contact screen I get 3 options (view profile, write on wall, and poke). If I open up a contact that is only facebook and tap that same Icon I get 4 options (view profile, message, write on wall, and poke). Is there some reason linking the facebook contact to a phone contact needs to remove that option? I'd like to be able to send a facebook message from the phone to any contact as easy as I can send a text message.

For instance if you add someone as a friend on facebook and they have their email and phone number filled out in their profile, that information would automatically be added to your phone. I don't want all of my Facebook "friends" to show up in my contact list on my phone but I would like Facebook data to sync for my actual contacts in my Google contact list. Dec 24, 2009I use a Droid and Google contacts. I hate Google's contact interface - it crashes Internet Explorer half the time - so I want to edit my contacts on my Droid and have them get updated on Google contacts. I tried this, but when I sync, the google data overwrites what is on my Droid. I've lost a lot of changes already. I tried deleting the contact in Google thinking the Droid contact would then become dominant, but the contact just got deleted on my Droid. But when I add a new contact on the Droid, it does go to Google. So it seems that all the existing Google contacts only sync one way - from google down to the Droid. I must change this. I need updates to happen both ways or else I need to make changes only go up to Google from the Droid.

Nov 25, 2010Have new Droid X, getting settled in and doing all the setup tasks. Migrating from Palm Treo. Exported all contacts by category(group) as CSV. Imported into Gmail, all was well. I then set up my ICE contacts and notes. Now my contacts are gone from the main contacts button on the home screen. I still have access to the contacts from inside the dialer,email and messaging apps, but when I press the contacts icon on the lower right of the home screen, I get

Contacts: Google (with the + mark to add a new contact)
No recent status updates. If I touch the 'Contacts: Google' button, I can choose between 'all contacts, Favorites, Google, Phone contacts', but all are blank.

Got a G2 and currently downloading the 2.1 update and wanted to back up my contacts so i dont have to re input them after update (it appears to wipe contacts) they are saved to the phone and not to the sim (which i believe if they were saved to sim it wouldnt be a problem after update). Now i have read something about backing up contacts to Gmail but can my contacts be backed up to gmail from my phone? if so how? maybe they are already? is there a way of checking this?

I tried to use Google contact sync but that brings in all the people I have emailed and is not specific to just phone numbers. I am currently on 1.5 (am using PCCW/Hong Kong) and I see via HTC's website that they have announced a 2.1 OTA upgrade. Before I upgrade, I would appreciate if someone could provide a way for me to backup/restore my contacts should they get wiped out in the upgrade from 1.5 to 2.1

I presume after the update I'll have to set everything back up (email accounts, ringtones, volumes, notifications, scenes)? I can copy my music and pictures onto my PC and I don't care about SMS.
I'll have to re-install apps and set them all back up too.
All I care about are my contacts really. I don't want to use HTC sync as that wants to copy them to Outlook and I keep my work contacts in outlook (not my personal ones). I don't use my google account for anything other than the market so I don't really want to sync with google.
Can I just copy them all to the SIM card? Will I lose pics and facebook links?
HTC Desire ::backup Contacts Etc To Computer
Jun 10, 2010I always used to backup my Nokias to their PC suite on my home computer. That backuped everything on the phone if I wanted and also was excellent when I changed phones, as, as long as they were Nokia I could just restore everything to my new phone.
Is there any similar system for my HTC Desire? I need the assurance that if my phone gets stolen or needs to be replaced, as I'll backup often, I'll be able to restore everything to my new phone directly from the computer.
