I currently have root access via the DMupdater. I am still running stock 2.1. I want to install BB, but would like to know how to get swype back once I install it. I am an authorized beta user and still have the invitation email I was sent. Can I just use the email again to download the installer?

I followed the directions the e-mail gave me. I downloaded it got the site and got the new version (2.4.44.10912.t100) and then when I try swyping to type I get the same blue box I did when it was outdated. Why does swype have to be such a pain to use.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had updated my DX to 2.2 a few weeks ago without rooting and DESPISE the new Swype keyboard in 2.2. It's smaller, white, and doesn't seem to work as well as the one installed on 2.1 on the DX which is black and seemed to have bigger keys to Swype to on the keyboard. How can I revert back to the old Swype keyboard that I had on 2.1 but keep 2.2 installed? I was told to move the Swype.apk file from 2.1 to the system/app directory in addition to the old lib file to the lib directory and then reboot the phone. The only problem is when I try to paste those files over, it won't let me. I'm guessing I need to be rooted to have access to those directories? What's the easiest way to root a 2.2 Droid X? Also, I was told the files need to be given special permissions. Is there an easier way to install the Swype from the DX running 2.1 onto a DX running the first leak of 2.2 for the DX?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI loaded the leaked 2.2 when it first became available and then deleted update.zip from the SDCard Directory. 2.2 worked fine.I reverted back to 2.1 in order to be able to get the OTA version of 2.2. Reverting worked fine.I rooted 2.1 using Universal Androot.I installed the following apps: Titanium Backup, Root Explorer, DroidXBootstrap,I did a nandroid backup using Bootstrap.Based on the reports I read today of the OTA 2.2, I decided to re-install the leaked 2.2 Using Root Explorer, I moved su from Bin to Xbin directory in order to preserve root status.I connected the Droid X to my laptop and copied Update.zip to the SDCard. Note that my SD card if almost full - only 25MB left after copying update.zip.I then booted, cleared cache and proceeded to run the update.

before , i had v.4.5 and email worked like a champ. Tried to reinstall SG v.5.0.1 few times - no effect.
Anyone can suggest where to get and install back email app. Not really interested in getting from Market non-droid versions.
It gives me the error message "Application Not Installed." Normally, this is because a prior version is installed, but I have no prior version of Swype. Is this just a limitation of the Rom?

I am on bhmans take 5 so i removed it from system/app and wiped the data then attempted to install it and it wont even open it just force closes constantly.

View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is my first android device and i'm loving it... but one thing that irks me is the use, or lack thereof, of the back button.
As I am navigating menus and options in the Settings, I cannot simply go back one menu using the back key. For example, if I go to Settings->Battery Manager->Battery Profile Options and want to go back to the Settings screen, I cannot.
Pushing the back button does nothing and I can only go back to the Settings menu by going Home, then re-entering.
Another quirk regarding the back button is when reading emails. Using a regular email account such as Hotmail, I cannot simply read an email and go back to the inbox using the button.
It makes navigating the phone very tedious.
is anyone else having problems installing swype? I am running xtrROM 4.2.1, and I can successfully install 1.60, but when I try to use it, I get this message:"The Swype package you installed does not match the screen size of the device. Please contact Swype about this issue. Screen size: 320x480)"I was able to use 1.56 fine on xtrROM 4.2.1, just installing 1.60 seems to be giving me issues.

I downloaded bootstrap and the first thing i did was create a nandroid back up for my x. then i proceeded to try and install tranquility rom. it got stuck in a bootloop. so when i rebooted into recovery it now goes for some reason to the droid stock recovery and i can't revert back to my back up. what do i do?!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm finding that I'm using the back button A LOT whether browsing the web or just navigating the OS. It kind of sucks because the buttons on the droid x are well, really small, and sometimes hard to press because they are so narrow and flimsy feeling. And depending on how you are holding the phone, it could be a good bit of distance for your thumb to travel or I'm finding myself having to reposition the phone in my hands just to reach the back button, which you seem to need very frequently.
Anyone know of any kind of back 'swipe' implementation ? Like some software you can install that makes it if you swipe left to right on maybe the top bar it goes back?
okay, this is really frustrating. i got my 2.2 today, and then i did a factory reset. everything is great except i can't seem to get my keyboard to change to swype. i have it installed, and i select it as my keyboard, but i cannot get it to come up. i have the official beta, and i also have a modified version with microphone, and i've tried both, neither is being recognized. does anyone know how to get my phone to use the swype keyboard when i have selected the damn thing? is there an additional setting i have to find? it's not app specific, either, i've checked several things, handcent, internet, mail, whatever. stock keyboard is all i get.

Can I move back to 4.1.2 by installing V2.5 over V2.9? Are there any problems going back to previous version of Liquidsmooth? Would Gapp still work going backwards?

I double checked Motorola's website and it advertises the Droid 2 with swype pre-installed. Did I just get stiffed? Or do I need to find an apk somewhere to get swype?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've read through the step-by-step here, and while I've found it to be the clearest set of instructions I've encountered, I still have a couple points of confusion. It sounds like by the time I get to the end of Section 2 (version 1) I will have a custom ROM installed (2Q). Now I've used Titanium Backup (I used the pre-OTA Unrevoked for su) to back up apps/data/settings. But I'm not sure what that gets me. What if I want to revert the phone to exactly how it is now? A Titanium Restore would restore apps/data/settings into the custom ROM loaded in 2Q correct?
It appears my answer is in Section 3, item 3D (NAND backup). But at what point do I do Section 3? If I've already gone through Section 2, my current ROM is overwritten by the custom ROM loaded in 2Q, so it's too late to back it up, right? Perhaps I'm making this more difficult than it needs to be, and I'm usually not a complete idiot about technology! But I'm having trouble getting my arms around some of these concepts. I see a lot of instructions saying "do this, do this, do this", but very little explanation what's actually happening when I do these things, and why I'm doing them, so I'm failing to grasp how the various pieces and actions are fitting together.
Is there anyway to set it so that you use swype when the phone is in portrait and multitouch when the phone is in landscape mode?

Different colors at the bottom, delete the color from the file name when placing on sdcard. i.e. blueupdate.zip > update.zip

All these are for 2.2, there is no reason you shouldnt be on 2.2

As always do a back up
If on 2.2 and have boot strapper installed to use this update .zip, throw it on sd card, open droid x bootstraper reboot to recovery, apply update.zip, reboot done!
........ without bootstrapper method...........if you want just the apk for a different color just extract it from the update.zip file use root explorer or other app to make a copy of your original app ( its in system/app)
First you must remove swype.apk from system/app any way of your choosing, terminal or adb, then reboot.
Follow the following directions
Put the .apk on your sdcard, navigate to it with astro or your fav file browser, open the apk and choose install. If it still says only gives you the option to uninstall, you didnt uninstall correctly. if you can get it to show up after install go into settings and keyboard and make sure swype is checked
DONE
................ If you somehow botched it...............
restore your back up.
If you were careless enough to not do a back up and your on 2.2 get a clean download here.. MY droid world 2.2 follow those instructions. then download file again, your last one might of been bad. When in recovery go to mounts and mount system, then install the zip
