Is there just an apk I can install of a themed black Messaging app? I don't want a whole theme, I actually like the stock, but I prefer the Msg app to be black like Fab's NexBeast/Fro since it's what I use most and the bright white gets annoying at night. I suppose I could just install Handcent, but I've had issues with it in the past.

Ok, how do you get the stock messaging app to retrieving/running in the background? Yes, I have unchecked "Auto-retrieve" and I have also unchecked "Received Notification" but whenever I check it, it is still running no matter how many times I end it... Grr

I noticed that the contact pictures that are being used aren't those in my contacts (they have the FB pics) instead they are using the contact pictures I have up on Google in my contacts. Is there anyway to change that? Also, the box around the image makes the image very small, anyway to get rid of that?

Anybody know why my green LED stopped blinking all of a sudden? I just got 2 texts (stock messaging app) but my light is not blinking anymore. I see the notification on the top of my screen, but no light. The light isn't broken as it still lights up w/ emails.

Is there anyway to clear defaults for the stock messaging app? I already tried going into Settings > Applications > Manage Applications, but I can't seem to find the Messaging app.. Help? I'd really like to set chompSMS as my default Messaging service, but I accidentally selected the stock Messaging app as the default when it asked me to.

Is there any way to change the color or get rid of the bubble look of the stock messaging app? don't want to use Handcent or Chomp, so what are my options? (If any). Also noticed on some but not all of the text messages I get, the CB# appears on each one. Now I saw the setting in messaging that you can disable that, but I think that is for my text messaging going out to the other person correct? Is there any way to stop this from appearing in each text I receive? The weird thing is, it does not happen for all users in my contact list, just a few.

Since I got the original 2.2 update for my Droid, whenever I get a new text message and slide down the notification bar and select the new message, it takes me to the main text message window rather than the actual thread to reply to the person. It is really annoying because it requires an extra step. I figured it would be fixed with the second 2.2 update but it didn't. I called Verizon and they called Motorola and nobody knew of the problem so they shipped me out a new phone and it still does it! I am not sure if I am the only one experiencing this or if its normal. It doesn't do it 100% of the time but closer to 90% probably.

Whats the scoop behind which one is really better? The stock messaging app or aftermarket apps (handcent and chomp). I use Handcent, and lately I have been finding it to be quite laggy and slow, even with cache cleared and all threads deleted. Is the only difference between stock and aftermarket, the fact that you can customize? I would much rather have a plain looking stock app that performs well, then a customizable aftermarket app that is slow. I am just looking for some opinions.

Handcent NEVER worked on my phone and ive been having troubles with chomp lately so i went back to stock. The things that bug me about the stock one are:
- When i receive a picture message, its displayed in a slideshow and only have 5 seconds to view it before it disappears.
HOW DO I DISABLE THAT OR ADD MORE TIME TO VIEW IT?
- I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to save a picture i receive,
HOW DO I SAVE THE PHOTOS?

I rooted my Droid Eris 2 days ago and have had multiple problems with it. The first problem was it wasn't receiving a signal at all. The 2nd problem I had was after I had wiped my device flashed the ROM and rebooted it kept saying htc.touch.input.app has encountered a problem and i had to force close it. Now it is not letting me get in to the stock messaging app to read any texts.

Is there any way to get the stock Android Messaging app on the Eris? I hate the HTC messaging app; it's so slow and leggy. I also hate Handcent and Chomp. Is there any way I could get the stock Android SMS app? Or does this require rooting or what?

The only choices allowed for lock screen wallpaper are from my photo album, once I went to a configured theme/scene for the home screen. How can I get the stock wallpaper I use for the theme/scene I have to also be the wallpaper for the lock screen? It seems stuck on the photo I used and the only choices offered in the menu are from the photo album I made.

Is there such a thing as a pure black background to help save battery life? Something like the menu black background. It's not an option when choosing a wallpaper.I've been searching around android market and have found nothing. If we make the image on our computer, would a black square work fine?

I currently use Slidescreen as a glorified Google Reader app (i.e. turned off the facebook, twitter and stocks parts), because it presents the feeds beautifully in light grey text on a black background, which not only looks cool, but it saves on battery life on my Desire's AMOLED screen. Letting me swipe away feeds without clicking through (when I can see from the headline that I don't need to) is nice too.The downside is that Slidescreen seems to eat up quite a lot of power and battery, and there is no convenient way to refresh feeds (you either have it autocheck regularly, eating lots more power, or you have to click the menu button, then "home settings", then scroll down to "google reader", then "reload group" - hardly a simple process to do regularly).
Another nice thing that Slidescreen does is let you choose which Reader folders it syncs with, so it can just present you with feeds more suited to reading on a phone. Are there any other Google Reader apps (that use less cpu/battery than Slidescreen, otherwise I might as well stick with Slidescreen), but also offer white/grey text on a black background, and let you choose which of the feeds it syncs with?I've got Greed2, which is a very nice app, but it doesn't have either of the above features.

My use case is writing an overlay controller activity for a landscape camera preview. I followed the instructions from a couple of tutorials for writing a transparent theme. When I start this activity from my root activity, the layout gets drawn correctly, but the background stays black. I tried to use @android:style/Theme.Translucent instead, but this Theme inherits the orientation from the calling activity (landscape) and thats not what I want. The application holding the camera preview is set to landscape view as it does not display the preview correctly in portrait orientation. (see old google bug report)What I wanted to do was to put an independent activity for user interaction interface in front of the camera surface holder (this activity should be set to 'portrait', or even better to 'sensor')

I have created a specific List which exists out of the following elements to create a scrollable list with every row containing a Image on the left side and some text on the right side.As long as the screen is shown statically (as in no movement) it will be shown correctly, but when I start scrolling through the list the background of the row-item (an "icon" as can be shown in the code) will be shown corretcly but the background of the "root" layout will become completely black when the scrolling stops the background will, most of the times, get back it's color. As I test I also added a TextView in that root-element with the same background, this one will detain it's color when the List is scrolled.

don't know if this has been brought up before, but I changed the background on my DI to the HTC provided black wallpaper (think it has some silver in it). Now my battery life has been extended almost 3 hours with the same usage. I have made no other changes to the DI.
