View 1 Replies View RelatedSo i had my 2.01 rooted with super permisions, but never got around to installing busy box, custom recovery and all that stuff, i just couldn't figure it out. then i updated to 2.1 and my super permissions is still in the apps, but its pretty clear the root isn't working for me. i looked up how to root 2.1 and the guides say if i upgraded my root from 2.01 to 2.1 and try to 2.1 root it could mess things up. so my question is.. what can i do to "re root" my droid. so i can install a custom os?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'll start with my history with Android. Got my X on launch day, ran the first leak .zip and reverted back to push the OTA onto my phone without a single problem (when the leak initially came out I saved all the appropriate files needed to revert before they were blacklisted). I have never rooted on any version of Android. Mainly because I just wasn't familiar enough with the know-how and I'm not going to Verizon crying because I bricked my phone claiming insurance replacement. SO - heres the run down, I've been working on PCs since 92, mostly Microsoft based, I'm very familiar with anything up to XP Pro, which I run on most of my machines (until I get a hold of a Windows 7 disc - I don't like Vista at all) I'm also very familiar with DOS commands when OSs used to be DOS based. I want to really get into Android and their operating system and learn a lot more about how it all works, after owning a Storm this really is a large step. I've always been running LP and Fancy Widgets to create the Incredibleist UI (the only thing I liked about the Dinc). I've become pretty familiar with navigating around with Astro, and terminal emulator but as you all know only so much can be achieved when not rooted.
View 25 Replies View RelatedWell I have been seeing all these new posts on phandroid about the new motorola droid x and my upgrade isn't until '12. The only thing I want to do with root is get some nice themes more thank likely i won't overclock. Thanks in advance.

View 24 Replies View RelatedHow to: Root the DROID X Using Universal Androot
Universal Androot is one of the newer 1-click methods to rooting a whole lineup of devices and one of them happens to be the Droid X. We had been holding out a little on posting this until there were methods available for creating backups using something like Clockwork Recovery and since Koush just released that option, it was time.
*Note 1* This needs to be done before updating to android 2.2. This method does not currently work on droid x froyo. Instructions *Warning*. Just a reminder that rooting VOIDS your warranty and could potentially do permanent damage to your device. This is not a recommended practice and you do so at your own risk.
1. Download and install Universal Androot to your Droid X: Download Link
2. Open it and tap the Root button.
3. Your phone will now run through a series of commands.
4. When it finishes, it will tell you that you are rooted.
5. Reboot your phone and BAM!Rooted Droid X.
I have an unrooted motorola droid. I am considering rooting but my question to you is will rooting my phone give me the ability to make it faster? I see people talking about "overclocking" help me understand how this works. All my friends who have "jailbroken" their iphones have made their phones noticeably slower and laggier. I wont root my droid if this is the same case.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI rooted my phone. No problem with that. The phone was dropped and will not power on.It is still under warranty. Will Motorola be able to tell that it was rooted and void my warranty if I return it? Would it be better to make insurance claim?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've decided to keep my droid and not get the incredible. I'm still within my 30 day return, but i feel the droid is and can be a better phone overall. My droid has 2.1 and basically stock. I'm looking to gain a little more speed out of my droid for right now. I'm not looking for some crazy root just one that speeds it up nicely. Can anyone point this newb in the right direction?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'll admit, I don't know much about rooting at all, so i've been lurking around here getting an idea of how to go about it. I'm pretty tech savvy, so it's nothing over my head, I'm just unfamiliar with it.I'm really unhappy with Motorola's latest droid x update. Updating to Froyo seems to have just made my phone significantly slower, the rotation is less responsive, etc. (the 2.3.15 update) All I would really want to do is, I'd want to root the phone and just load a stock Froyo ROM onto here. No extra moto or verizon BS, just the stock OS and whatever apps I want on it. Does that make sense? How would I go about doing that?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have not looked at Chrome OS yet so I am looking for some feedback on how to tether with it.
Using a non-rooted Droid, is it possible to tether with Chrome OS?
I know there are ways to tether your non-rooted Droid with Linux/Windows/Mac, but the software required will not run under Chrome OS (for example, one of the Linux solutions requires you have the SDK installed).
i have root on my device an am running 2.1, if i wait for the official ota of froyo 2.2 will root stay on my phone or should i unroot it before the official ota?
