Motorola Droid :: How To Enable Multitouch On Rooted Device?
Dec 9, 2009
Well, now that the Droid has been rooted, I assume it is now possible to enable multitouch, correct? If this is the case, how would I go about doing this and would it be system wide?

I have been rooted since shortly after 2.2 dropped and it broke the SiriusXM app. I love having the ability to do so much with the phone . My question is kind of specific to an application and general to the nature of a rooted device. I have been playing World of Warcraft for 5 years now and with the always present threat of being hacked and all of my in-game items, characters and account being stolen I added the mobile authenticator app as soon as it was available for Android devices. For those who don't know what this is, it is an app which you add to your in game account and will generate a key which you put in upon login that adds an extra layer of security to your account.

I am wondering if and when 2.1 is released by Google will we be able to get full featured versions of 2.1 on our rooted phones a lot sooner than the OTA update. Secondly, does anyone know what kind of install it might be. Will it just be another ROM to replace the humancyborg ROM that most of us are running. Hopefully when 2.1 is released it shows up quickly on here.

I have a rooted droid running bbv1.0 and Ive had this for a couple of months now. I recently lost my wall charger so I have just been charging it with the data cable and the computer. Today I was gone most of the day and my battery was at 15% when I got home. I plugged it into the computer for about an hour and when I came back it still had the same amount of battery life when I unplugged it to check. I have setcpu and it was doing the failsafe warning (over 120 degrees) a little more than usual today. It got up to about 145 degrees for a minute at one point when I was using the wireless tether with my laptop. It had the failsafe warning when I checked it while charging just a little bit ago. I don't know if the battery is failing or if its a problem with the phone?

Works like windows explorer but lets you see all folders of a rooted droid. I just found it off a link on cm forums. Pretty cool and nice to be able to see all the folders on the pc instead of on droid. Droid Explorer

I rooted my droid, and am currently running smoked glass 6. Twice I have noticed my phone heating up (120 F was the most before I pulled the battery) for no apparent reason. I open up auto-killer, kill extra processes, and no difference. No application can be causing this, yet my phone will heat up for no reason. It is not all the time, but I fear it could become a regular thing.

I rooted my 2.1 ESE81 Droid using SP Recovery method but decided to stop at installing busybox. Well, I found out that DroidExplorer requires it so I went ahead and started the process of installing it, but for the life of me, I cannot get adb to recognize my droid again. It worked fine when I initially used it to obtain root, but now that it's rooted, whenever I try any adb commands I get "error: device not found". I have the Motorola 4.2 Consumer Drivers installed, I have the Droid set to enable USB debugging, just as I did when I got the phone rooted. In fact, it was just after I rebooted the phone after installing su and Superuser.apk that the error started happening. I can run su and get the # prompt from the terminal emulator on the phone and everything, I just can't get adb to connect to the dang phone. I've been reading on other forums that some people found that the device ID's in the android_winusb.inf file under the AndroidSDK/tools folder are not the same after the phone is rooted, but I don't know about that. This is really baffling. I'm thinking of copying the busybox binary to the SD Card and just copying it using the terminal emulator on the phone and just running the rest of the commands there instead of trying to do it through adb. But, I'll want adb working no matter what.

Just listened to the Engadget podcast and they said that this device has no multi touch functionality period out of the box. Even the software keyboard does not have it according to them. I need to know if this is real or not it is really bothering me right now. The main reason it is bothering me is because if you go on the VZW Droid Does website in all the features right between turn by turn nav and GTAlk you will see that multitouch is advertised right there. Why would they advertise it if the device does not support it?

I have noticed that there is now a way to put the Milestone firmware onto the Droid to enable the multitouch feature only available in Europe. I was wondering if anyone attempted the firmware update and had no problems with the transition?

Looks like someone over at XDA's got this ported. Already confirmed to be incompatible with Froyo, but I'm sure there are plenty of people running 2.1 that want to give this a try.

I tried better keyboard but it isn't multi touch i was wondering if there is a 3rd party keyboard similar to the stock keyboard that supports multi touch. Coming from iphone it would greatly help my on screen keyboard usage, as the hardware keyboard is awful IMHO.

I had assumed that the Motorola Droid supports the new multitouch APIs in Android 2.0, but the reviews of the device I've seen so far say that it isn't used, at least in the built-in apps like the browser (e.g: http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/30/motorola-droid-review/ ). Apparently though, it is supported on the upcoming GSM version of the same handset [url], so perhaps it is just an issue of whether the driver is included on the Droid version of the software. Can anyone with access to a Droid confirm whether the multitouch API works on it?

Does anyone know if this device will EVER get MT on the soft boards? I have read elsewhere in the forum of people swearing it has it, but it just isn't true. What's the point of it being capable of it when the function that needs it most is lacking it?

For those of you NOT running the Beast or Beauty, Pete's released an update.zip that will install multitouch versions of the browser, maps, and gallery to any 2.0.1 ROM.You'll still need to be rooted, as the update.zip is unsigned, but this bodes well for those running a stock 2.0.1, or perhaps one of AdamZ's ROMs.You know where to find the link, and if you don't, you can check out my blog in my sig!

If someone could edit this to make it work thatd be amazing.

When I choose to reply to an email(or anytime I use the keyboard), Espanol appears in the Spacebar position. Yes, the spacebar still works but the the suggested words appear in Spanish as I key letters in. I checked and rechecked English in the Language/Keyboard option in Settings but it will not go back to English. This started a few days ago and I do not know why?
