Motorola Droid :: Google Voice - No Friends And Family
Jan 13, 2010I am new and recently bought the moto droid. I just got a google voice account and set it up. I do not have a friends and family plan. I have a $39.99 package with unlimited data($29.99). So is there a way using google voice and sipdroid or something else to make and recieve free calls or do you have to have the friends and family? I have read a couple links that people have provided about setting up sipdroid and I am completely lost.

Jan 23, 2010I changed the voice mail number from *86 (version default) to my Google voice number. This works when I am not answering the phone and I the caller gets connected to my GV account. But when my phone is not in coverage the caller gets my version voice mail. Appreciate if someone can correct my settings or suggest any app that does it. I am from Windows mobile world and missing those settings when you can define several settings for voice mail (unanswered, rejected, unavailable etc...)

Dec 15, 2009I have a few questions about google voice and verizon. I am currently on a plan where I have 10 friends outside of verizon that are now in my circle. Now that I have google voice, does this change anything? I have the droid and just downloaded the google voice app. I have seen that people are saying that sms messages don't get pushed, but it looks like they are through the google voice app? Am I missing something? Can I now cancel my sms service through verizon so I am not paying ANY sms fees? It looks like I am getting sms messages the same as I always did, how do I sms through google voice on the droid?

Jan 10, 2010Think Google Voice was updated a few days ago. Version 0.3.0 on device. Every time on power-off/on it force closes. Uninstalled and reinstalled it, did not help. Reviewed the log file and there are some unhandled exceptions in Google Voice code. Any one else with this problem? Is there a way to reinstall an older version of Google Voice app?

Nov 23, 2009Looks like there is a newer version of Google Maps in the market than that which is on the Droid. On the Droid = 3.2.0 in market place is 3.2.1. I installed it and the navigation and all still seems to be there. Not sure what was in the updates but it did upgrade the version number.

Aug 26, 2010I can call people directly from my computer with GV (new Gmail integration), I'm really considering telling all my friends to use my new GV number. Right now some of them have my GV number but never call it, just my regular cell number. How did some of you make your friends use the GV number instead of your old one? Maybe I should just steal all their phones when they go to the bathroom or something and program it in myself? I'm wondering if it will add any extra charges through their cell plan. I picked a number that doesn't have an area code of where I actually live, it's actually a city about 4 hours away. That's the main thing I'm worried about, I don't want them to have to have any additional fees when they call/text my GV number.

From my understanding google voice does not support that. I did read about an application called iTim for the iphone which allows you to use MMS through google voice. Is there any such product for the Android? Having SMS/texting through google voice would save $30/month on my cell phone bill, so it's kind of a big deal.

Went through the verification process and dialed the * number from my phone and everything went well. Got my welcome messages and all. Jun 11, 2010I just changed my google voice number to a google number today from the random number I had before. But now I can't call it from any 216 area code. This creates a problem because my phone is a 216 area code. So I can't call my own voicemail - It just says the number cannot be completed as dialed. When I call from a different area code it's fine. No contact groups or anything are blocked and I can call out. I'm stock and haven't rooted or anything.

Sep 16, 2010I don't know if its coincidence but i just bought the motorola extended battery and my phone seems to be lagging alot with google voice and just seems a little unstable overall. Been loving my x but has been letting me down since the new battery, though i love the battery life with it. Guess i need to try the old battery again and see if it improves.

Yet, I have heard that SMS messages sent through GV aren't as speedy or reliable as those sent through your carrier. I've read that it often takes up to 5 minutes to receive a text message after one is sent to you. If I'm in the middle of a "texting conversation" I don't want to have to wait 5 minutes to receive a reply to one of my texts.. Is this true? Or does Google Voice SMS work like a charm and I should just drop my $20 a month text plan?
