Motorola Droid :: Gmail Video Attachments Wont Play - 2.2
Jul 1, 2010
My issue is that i can NOT get any videos from my gmail to play at all. Either while using Video Player or Movies when I am first asked to pick one. I pick both after one doesnt work and I can NOT get any video to play at all...I believe that this is due to 2.2 .. i have not flashed back to 2.1 to find out if that is true but eversince 2.2 video playback from gmail has shut down. even if i save the vids and play from gallery.. i have a blank spot where the video should be..

one problem i just noticed since i installed LFY1.4 with the smoked theme.. when i try to play videos that i recorded on my phone previous to rooting, and rom'ing i get an error "sorry this video cannot be played". it only happens with certain videos, not all of them. not sure if it has to do with the rom, the theme, launcher pro, rooting or what.. wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or anything similar?

I am a sales engineer for a company that specializes in streaming. I have and love my droid, i have tried using it with several of our products for live streaming but with no luck.
I have tried video meant to stream with the Ipod and nothing happens.
I have tried MP4 ASP and it starts to open the video but never plays.
I have tried progressive downloads of both with no luck.
i have tried 3gp with no luck.
Do you know what video formats it can stream?

The messaging system at the company I work for generates .wav files for voicemails and sends them as attachments. When I try to open one of these attachments, it brings up the music player, and then the music player gives an error message along the lines of "sorry, player does not support this type of audio file".Is the only way to fix this to download some other music player? And if so, how would I set that as the default?

Is there any way to download attachments from the Gmail app rather than going to the browser version? This is kinda annoying as I have to either login to my gmail through the browser or forward the mail to my other email account.

How can you download attachments on your GMail onto the SD card (for opening later), rather than just previewing the damn things? Sense allows you to do this but stock for some reason, does not

When I get my activity chooser for my ACTION_GET_CONTENT Intent there is applications I don't want to be there, like the ones who will first create content and then pass the URI to me, like the Voice Recorder. When you use Gmail and try to attach a file you will only see the applications/activities that picks data from your SDCard like Gallery, and in my case Astro (file manager application).
So my question is, what kind of Intent does Gmail use for their Attach? Here is my code, something must be missing since I get applications like Voice Recorder and so on.
Intent action = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_GET_CONTENT);
action = action.setType("*/*").addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_OPENABLE);
startActivityForResult(Intent.createChooser(action, "Upload file from..."), 1);

I sent myself an attachement - sent to my gmail account. I can see the email, can see the attached file's name. Can't do a damn thing with it! Can't even SAVE to phone... wtf? Am I missing something? I mean - it's about as stupid as having segregated "Gmail" and "Email" apps on a single phone.

all the customization Android allows Google didn't create a Gmail App that makes it impossible to save attachments to your SD card/internal memory. I have tried searching around here and it seems the EVO folks are stuck as well. Would Google really stop us from doing something so essential? And I know you can in HTC Mail, but I have notification issues with HTC Mail that I can't deal with (like the notification sound continuing perpetually when a new email arrives).

I have a non-rooted 2.2 Inc with the 2.3 version G mail app. Since updating to 2.3, I can no longer preview/download attachments. The app gets stuck on "Fetching Attachment" and eventually force closes. I've sought help from Google but there's no official answer to this issue. Does anyone here have any advice? I've even gone so far as to do a factory reset, but to no avail. Like many of you, the Incredible is my workhorse on the road and I desperately need the ability to open attachments.
