Does anyone know how to extract apk's from an android phone? I'd like to experiment with some of them as far as themes and stuff goes...
So I went in and tried the droid 2 in the store. There is a totally new "unified" messaging app. It looks like this may be a motorola / blur app.
The thing is that this email app works with my corporate email system, while the email app on my droid w/ 2.2 still doesn't work.
I'd hate to upgrade hardware due to a software problem, but I really dislike TouchDown, and would like to get my hands on that APK.
Is there any chance someone will be able to extract out the unified messaging app from the droid 2?
Seems that for some reason I cant put the 2.2 OTA on my X...It comes back with an error that mentions the build.prop when doing the Checking Version step...
Verifying current system
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/build.prop","76f714f20045407075a08d1f8634dbadf6891 66c5","448243fe4bdffdd0818e81286821889880d37752")
E:Error in /cache/Blur_Version.1.13.604.MB810.Verizon.en.US.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
So I'm guessing that the changes I made in the build.prop file are stopping the update...I put the original back, but notice the file date is different (Yestedays date) than what the original should be...
Wondering if I can extract the original build.prop file from the SBF and put that down without doing the whole reflash...
If not, anyone have a stock 2.1 build.prop file they can Email me so I dont have to SBF and loose everything I have setup now?
Can you extract the Ringtones/Alerts from the Droid X? Is there any way to extract the ringtones and alert sounds from the Droid X? Do you have to be rooted? Is there anywhere online that the collection or a zip of them is hosted?

View 5 Replies View RelatedThe short version is that I need to be able to extract one specific conversation from the stored text messages on an Android phone, transfer it to a PC, and then convert it into some format that is easily and comfortably readable on a PC.
The background to this is that my girlfriend had kept all of the text messages she had previously received from me; but a couple of weeks ago a rather unpleasant gentleman kicked my front door in (while she and I were both in my house), demanded money, and made off with my wallet and shoulder bag, and my girlfriend's handbag, which contained her phone. A bit scary as you can imagine.... We're both okay, but my girlfriend was a little sad to lose all the messages I'd sent her.
As it happens, I generally keep long-term copies of the texts that I send and receive (not for sentimental reasons, I'm just a bit of a hoarder when it comes to data!) so I've probably still got copies of all of those messages somewhere (my phone didn't get stolen), and I'd like to extract them and give them to her as one of a set of birthday gifts.
Potential complications:
1) I need to extract both sides of the conversation (my messages to her and hers to me) into a single file.
2) I need not to extract messages to or from anyone else.
3) Sometimes a number may be in 07... format while other times it may be in +447... format.
4) Girlfriend changed phone number at one point.
5) Messages will be split between my old phone (a Samsung Galaxy S2 which can still connect to wifi or a USB cable, but has no actual phone service any more) and my new one (HTC One).
6) The end result needs to be a single file with everything in chronological order.
7) Girlfriend is extremely non-technical; so the end product has to be something that can be loaded and viewed on a laptop by launching just one file, and it has to be nicely laid out and easily readable when you're viewing it.
I want to basically intercept a text message that has an image attached, and save that somewhere automatically. Can this work on Android?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince people are starting to make their own boot animations now, and this is something that everyone (not just root) can do to customize their Eris I thought it'd be helpful to start sharing them in one place. Also, since the name of the animation must be "bootanimation.zip" I have changed the names to avoid confusion when downloading, but it will have to be changed back before installing.
Installing the SDK and using ADB
1.) Make sure debug mode is enabled:
Menu -> settings -> Applications -> Development, Check the box for USB Debugging.
2.) Download the SDK from Android SDK | Android Developers
3.) Download HTC Sync from HTC Mobile Phone Support - DROID ERIS by HTC (Verizon) - Downloads
4.) Install HTC Sync (This takes care of any driver issues)
5.) Extract the SDK to any directory (C:Androids is easy to remember) and install.
6.) Open a command window (Windows key + R -> Type "cmd" hit enter)
7.) Navigate to your SDK ools Directory

I hate the lock screen on the Hero, I know their is a way to turn it off, but i don't like getting a message and then the phone doing something in my pocket. Is their a way to extract the .apk of the lock screen from the droid, and just install it on the hero, I understand that the resolution on the hero is different, but hate the current lock screen, i have to slide it down 2-3 times for it to recognize. I downloaded lock 2.0 already on the market, its not bad. but it takes 3-4 seconds on my phone to actually give me the slide to unlock screen.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen Android is in portrait mode and the soft keyboard IME is shown, my app is resized properly. When in landscape mode, the soft keyboard IME is always in fullscreen/extract mode, and even though I can see the top portion of my app, it doesn't resize my app. I couldn't find any way to make the IME not come up in fullscreen mode. So instead, I detect this condition, and manually resize my app. This works, but unfortunately, to make this work well, I need to know the height of the IME, or the portion of my app that remains visible. But it seems there is no way to get this information, and the soft keyboard IME's height varies on different devices. As a hack, I put in options for the user to be able to adjust these parameters, and set the defaults for the G1. I can live with this for now, but is there a more appropriate way to handle this?
In addition, even in portrait mode, if the status bar is hidden, the IME also does not resize my app. This clearly seems like a bug to me.
I want to display animated gifs in my aplication.
As I found out the hard way Android doesn't support animated gifs natively.
However it can display animations using AnimationDrawable:
http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/graphics/2d-graphics.html#frame-animation
The example uses animation saved as frames in application resources but what I need is to display animated gif directly.
My plan is to break animated gif to frames and add each frame as drawable to AnimationDrawable.
Does anyone know how to extract frames from animated gif and convert each of them into Drawable?
