Motorola Droid :: Can I Un-root By Simply Force Updating To 2.0.1

Dec 31, 2009

Let's say I need to exchange my phone for whatever reason. Can I unroot by simply force updating to 2.0.1? If so, can someone post a link to the update file.

Motorola Droid :: Root-unroot Then Force Upgrade To 2.1 - Want To Root Again Back To 2.01

Apr 3, 2010

I used DroidMod to root when I had 2.01. When 2.1 became available, I "un-rooted" then forced update to 2.1. Well to be honest, it is really slow and laggy. I now want to go back to DroidMod, but nothing I have tried seems to work.

Motorola Droid :: Losing Root When Updating ?

Feb 21, 2010

I have seen this mentioned quite often here in the rooting forums, and was getting curious. A lot of people are stating that they are losing root when updating one of Pete's roms. I have loaded about all of them and haven't noticed I lost anything. I do have to reinstall busybox everytime though.. is this what people are referring to when they say "root"? Or am I missing something that I should probably go back and fix?

Motorola Droid :: Simply Stunning - 4.8 Battery Goes Down Itsef

Oct 26, 2010

So I just updated my rooted Droid from SS 4.7 to 4.8 and im starting to have major battery drain. Last night before I went to bed my phone was at 90% and when I woke up it was down to 40% I have no idea what is making my phone do this but it is getting to the point where I have to be constantly charging. I even have the ulowv 0.8 kernel as well, cause I thought that would get me the best battery life but it hasnt at all. I have the CPU set at max 800 and min 125. Does anyone know a fix for this?

Battery use it says was:
47% Android OS
18% Display
9% Android system
7% phone idle
7% Cell standby
4% Browser
2% Dialer
2% Launcher
2% Keyboard

Motorola Droid :: Simply Stunning - 2.0.2 So Far Pick Of Litter

Mar 10, 2010

Been playing with Chevy's 2.02 ESE53 2.1 based rom and I am quite impressed. There was about an hour of false starts when he originally posted but it turned out that his server was not properly updating his newer file (drove poor Chevy up a wall). It is running fast right out of the box (141ms), cool (averaging about 82F) and his smoked glass blue theme is very pleasing on the eyes. As usual, I did a Nandroid restore and wiped everything first. This will deffinetly be a keeper (at least for the next hour until something newer comes along ). This one is worth checking out fellow flash addicts...
Simply Stunning 2.0.2 Release - ESE53 - (3/9/2010) - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum

I then used this tweaked theme:
Blue ese53 theme - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum (Blueese53 theme based on Chevy's ROM) which adds a little more eye candy.

Motorola Droid :: Petes Bugless Beast Vs Simply Stunning?

Mar 4, 2010

Those who have tried both (2.1 roms) can you comment on the differences? I've always run Pete's (using his new 2.1 ERE25 now) but my buddy recently went over to SS and says his battery life is A LOT better.

I haven't heard much discussion on the major differences in these two Roms (besides the authors).

Any comments would be welcomed.

Motorola Droid :: Disappearing Shortcuts - Froyo Simply Stunning 4.2?

Jun 28, 2010

I just recently downloaded and installed Chevy's Simply Stunning (4.2) ROM, and I'm finding that some of my shortcuts (places in folders) are disappearing upon powering off my phone.

I have two folders ("Text" and "Call") on my home screen that simply contain direct call and direct message shortcuts to some of my contacts. Ever since updating to Simply Stunning 4.2, I've had issues. I'm not entirely sure that's what caused it... anyone had this problem before?

Motorola Droid X :: Widgets Not Updating / Stop Updating

Jul 24, 2010

Anyone having trouble with widgets stop updating? Like my clock/calendar/weather/news/pretty much any widget i have stops updating after an hour. So i look at my clock widget two hours later and it is an hour behind. Happens to ALL my widgets.Even the quick turn on/off wifi,bt,gps and such. They just stop updating/showing animation.I have ADW launcher installed. I am wondering if it is that. I do not really want to remove it as i hate the stock 3 button interface at the bottom (why do i need a contacts and phone, just use the phone to look thru contacts, wasted space IMO) and am quite keen on keeping the 5 button.Any ideas? If i power off the phone and turn it back on it's fine again for about an hour. SOmetimes randomly thru the day it will start updating and working fine again then randomly stop again.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Application Force Close After Updating

Nov 6, 2009

I have noticed several times that after updating an application in the Market, the app will never work again. This has happened with Pandora, Key Ring Finder, Audio Manager and countless other apps. With some other apps, after updating the application, it will work fine, but the name will change to something odd like com.chompsms.Well, i was reading through Key Ring Finder update and realized that something is occuring specifically with the HTC Hero that is causing this with application updates. But there is a ::drum roll please:: workaround! When updating an app, do not select the 'update' option! This is where the programs become corrupt. Instead, click 'uninstall', then reinstall the application. The freshly installed copy will work perfectly!

General :: Force Closes In System After Updating File In Framework - Galaxy Ace GT-S5839

Apr 14, 2013

I have this problem with my friends galaxy ace GT-S5839i: here because I don't know what to do I pulled the file framework-res.apk from system and then changed the extension to zip, and changed an image inside one of the folders.

After that I zipped the pack again (tried several zip options) and changed the extension back to apk My first question: Is this ok?

I copied the changed file to sdcard and using es explorer moved the file to system/framework. Imediately After answering if I wanted to overwrite the phone freezes and never booted again.

I restored the rom and tried several times with same result I tought the problem would be trying to overwrite a file that's in use but then I found a tool the decompiled the original apk, changed the image, compiled and signed it and made a flashable zip of it.

It gsve always error in trying to flash this on recovery so I extrated the compiled and signed new framwork apk and moved it to system with es explorer... The difference now is that it didn't froze the phone but started to show fc's everywhere. Rebooted, wipede cash and dalvik, messed up woth permissions... Everything I could think of and the result os always tbe same...

Motorola Droid X : Back Button Functionality - Cannot Simply Go Back One Menu Using The Back Key

Jul 15, 2010

This is my first android device and i'm loving it... but one thing that irks me is the use, or lack thereof, of the back button.

As I am navigating menus and options in the Settings, I cannot simply go back one menu using the back key. For example, if I go to Settings->Battery Manager->Battery Profile Options and want to go back to the Settings screen, I cannot.

Pushing the back button does nothing and I can only go back to the Settings menu by going Home, then re-entering.

Another quirk regarding the back button is when reading emails. Using a regular email account such as Hotmail, I cannot simply read an email and go back to the inbox using the button.

It makes navigating the phone very tedious.

HTC Droid Eris :: Updating - Root Replacement Eris With 1.5 And HBOOT 1.47

Jun 23, 2010

Hey everybody, I've looked for an answer on here, but to no avail. I tried to root my replacement Eris with 1.5, and HBOOT 1.47. Everything was going well until it got to the point of making a recovery, which for some reason, my phone wouldn't let me do. Infuriated and frustrated, I followed the steps to go back to 1.5 to a tee. However, I miss Vlingo so much, and i went to install the OTA 2.1, and it aborted the installation. I now have HBOOT 1.49.2000, so does my phone basically think I have the 2.1v3 leak, or am I just flat-out screwed? Done multiple factory resets, etc. and they haven't helped either

Motorola Droid :: Updating To 2.2

Aug 19, 2010

My Droid appears to have an issue, and I'm hoping someone here can help. It is completely stock. I've searched this and other forums, but can't find anyone with a similar issue. My phone is not bricked, but I would really like to update to 2.2.

When Android 2.1 came out, I did a manual update and had no issues completing it.

When 2.2 came out, I tried the manual update like normal. Held the X key while powering up, and the Motorola logo came up. Then the phone shut down, and the logo came up again. As long as I hold down the X, this continues to happen.

Late last week, I got the notice on my phone that the update was ready to install. I tapped Install Now, and the phone shut down and restarted in a similar manner as described above.

Crap. So, I can't get into Recovery Mode. At all.

So, I decided to attempt a factory reset through the Settings Menu. Same thing happens. Moto logo comes up, the the phone shuts down. Then powers back up like nothing happened.

I took it to the VZW store. Was essentially told to wait a bit, and that they would do a warranty exchange if the phone became unusable.

I did the Motorola Support Chat, and was told that VZW should be getting a tool to help, but it seemed like the rep didn't really understand what I was describing.

Motorola Droid :: Root 2.1 -> OTA 2.2 -> Lost Root But Superuser Permission Icon Still Appears

Aug 11, 2010

Here is the scenario:
Motorola Droid - Original

1. Rooted 2.1, then
2. OTA Stock Update to 2.2, then
3. Seem to have lost root, However - I still have the Superuser Permissions Icon.

I use Barnacle for WiFi Tether - I get a "Permission Denied" error when I try to start the application. I also went into the terminal emulator and tried an "su" which also gave a permission denied response. I tried "sudo" and also got permission denied response. Others have told me this is common with this progression of events. However, How do I now ROOT 2.2 in this scenario?

Motorola Droid X :: Updating Rooted 2.1 To OTA 2.2?

Sep 22, 2010

I'm a bit noobish since this is my first Android phone, so please forgive me. I rooted my Droid X running 2.1 using the GUI program. I used Root Explorer to rename a few bloatware apps. I did not make any other changes, just installed Titanium Backup and used it to make a backup. To successfully install the OTA update to 2.2, what do I need to do? I read that I need to restore the bloatware. Do I also need to unroot first? I've also read in a couple places something about moving Superuser.apk from bin to xbin. Is that what I need to do to stay rooted in 2.2?

Currently I have 30.01 bootloader.I read that I can use the FULL 2.2 SBF file to update the bootloader and the more importantly, the Radio. I am wondering however if I need to remove remove Bootstrap or Unroot first? I would imagine I do not, but you can never be too careful, there seems to be alot of misinformation, and I'm digging up posts where some people say the Full 2.2 SBF will not update the bootloader.

Motorola Droid :: What Should Know About Updating ROMs?

Jul 25, 2010

I know, the information is probably out there if I spent more time trying to cajole the information out of my good friend Google, but he's been feeling unhelpful today, so I figured I would ask here. I am currently running Bugless Beast .4, and of course, I may want to change or upgrade in the future. I know that most of my settings and information is saved to the SD card, and that in theory I could move SOME apps there. That said, I want to understand what a "nandroid backup" is, and how changing ROMs affects your otherwise installed applications. Is there a good app anyone can recommend to back up and restore applications if they are lost?
