Not going through any intermediary web services.Basically, Point to local music folders in the PC client, activate the server, browse media on my phone Just like TVersity, but for android devices.I know there is an app in dev called "FIVE" but that's not out yet,

I used Mecanto on Nokia, and it's very impressive. It's like ORB, except it has a very good app (instead of using a browser). Mecanto now has an Android app in beta; I just got the email:Installation:
1. Go to Settings > Applications and then check the box called Unknown sources.
2. Use the phones browser and go to http://www.mecanto.com/ms and select "Android beta version".
3. After software is downloaded, press on the downloaded application and MeCanto will be installed.
4. Start MeCanto and enter your user name & password
You install a small server on your computer (get it from Mecanto site), then direct it to your media folders. It indexes your files (taking a long time if you have .5TB of music, like me). It then starts uploading your files to their server, where only you can access them (read their FAQ for privacy concerns). Before they are uploaded, though, you can stream directly from your computer. It's kind-of a weird system; I wish it would just stream. For me, playback stutters and skips a lot, but I'm wondering if it's just because I have the $10 internet plan (not the $25 smartphone plan, which may be faster). I do always have 3G (indicated as such anyway).

Everytime my phone connects with my car stereo (Clarion FB275btb) it starts to stream music. It even tries to stream if the music player is closed. After I stop the music and and put the stereo into another mode it works fine. If I later get a call it acts normally, but after I end the call it starts to stream music again! Any ideas on what the problem might be? My stereo worked fine with my behold I and nokia 5310.

Trying to set a file descriptor originating from a Local Socket on a Media Player fails in Android, both the SDK emulator and the actual devices. This problem was originally described in the link below, but the discussion got (unfortunately) sidetracked: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa. The link gives example code to reproduce the problem - I am listing the necessary steps here as well for reference:
1) Create a thread with a Local Socket that receives raw audio data (e.g. an OGG file), for example from another Local Socket.
2) Connect the socket and a new Media Player using media Player.setDataSource( receiving Socket.getFileDescriptor()); The code will fail with UNKNOWN_ERROR on C side with the following exception on Java side:

I know there is already a thread with exactly the same title, but not exactly the content i need.
What i would like to do with my android phone is to stream everything which is displayed on my phone to my pc. either via wlan or usb, i dont care (whatever works). I am NOT searching for an app which lets me control my android from my pc. I would only like to see on my computer screen whatever is shown on my android phone. I'd say my android should behave like an expansive webcam .
The only 'app' I found so far which is capable of this is 'androidscreencast' androidscreencast - Project Hosting on Google Code. It's a nice application and it basically does what I described above, but with 3-4 fps it just performs way too bad.

I'm developing an application that makes video stream to an internal network, so I need to broadcast to listeners devices (connected to this network), found an application called VPLAYER receiving video stream, but it performs HTTP, which makes the broadcast. So, I wonder if there is any player that receives video stream and run under the UDP or whether it is possible to develop an application that receives the video stream and pass to the player's native android.

How To: Properly Sync Music To Android With MediaMonkey | RickyCadden.com from the site: Mount your phone in USB Mode to your computer, and note the drive letter that it is associated Open this drive in Windows Explorer and create the appropriate folders where you want your music stored. I have one called Music and one called Playlists, but you can do this however you want. Now launch MediaMonkey, and make sure it shows your phones memory card in the left sidebar (separately from the MyComputer option) In MediaMonkey, click on Tools up top, then choose Options and go down to Portable/Audio Devices Uncheck *all* of the plug-ins except d_USBMass1.dll Highlight d_USBMass1.dll and click on the Configure button to the right Choose the Device Configuration tab in the dialog box that popped up In the middle of this tab, youll see a box called Device Name, which is where youll type the name of your phone (mine is NexusOne)Below this, choose the appropriate drive letter from the drop-down Below this, enter a Drive Label (again, mine is NexusOne)Leave the USB Device ID box empty and dont click the Find Device button While you have this dialog box open, you can tinker with the other tabs, if you want. This is where you can specify a folder hierarchy and adjust your sync settings. I would recommend creating a small playlist (~15-20 tracks from various artists/genres/albums) to test with you dont want to do a full sync only to realize you dont like your sync settings. This guide is better because it allows for the use of smart playlists and has much fewer steps than if you use winamp.

Basically, I want to make an audio visualizer.I know it's possible, because my phone came with a few live wallpapers that do it.The problem is, I can't seem to figure out how to do this with the Android API.My app would pick up the currently playing media stream and then depending upon the volume that is playing at that time, it would display more or less bars on the screen. How can I do this?It looks like I could do something like this using the microphone, but I want to be able to do it for music, podcasts, etc.

I am wondering if there any music apps (besides Pandora, Last.fm, imeem, Slacker, etc.) that will play the song that I want it to? For example, say I want to listen to Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z, what app can I go to and type in "Empire State of Mind" and listen to that song, instead of "similar songs"?All of these Pandora, Slacker, etc apps are exactly the same. Why can't I listen to the song I want instead of similar songs? I just don't get it.

I wanted to stream A/V from my machine to Android over HTTP
(http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/libav-user/2010-July/004944.html).
But that does not seem feasible using FFMpeg. I am planning to try FFMpeg streaming over RTSP. But I am not sure whether MediaPlayer or VideoView classes on Android support RTSP playback. Is playing RTSP stream possible in simple application?

This would be my first post here now. Anyway, here's my situation: I have a NAS where I store my MP3s and I can access it anywhere through its FTP server capability. I have already been able to access the FTP using And FTP and download files from it to play, so I'm good there. But what I would really like to do is be able to open and play the files remotely and basically just stream that song from the NAS/FTP server instead. Anybody know of a way to pull this off? Or am I going to have to bug some dev to program an app for me that does that?

We're currently launching a site with live (TV) and non-live streaming of video material.
The RTSP live feeds play fine on Android (.sdp extension) however other videos published on the side in MP4 format - don't. Neither the browser nor the Meridian player recognise the files and play them.
Any ideas where we went wrong?
PS. I'm not the guy in charge of the video encoding etc. but I'm looking for some tips and information for our team.

I've searched several forums but it's been hard to find a clear-cut answer for the app I'm looking for. There is an app for iphone called "here file file" that from what I understand allows a user to access and play pretty much any file such as audio and video on their iphone that is on their Mac. You don't have to be at home using your own wifi connection or any wifi connection for that matter. So basically you can access your Mac files from anywhere and play them on your iphone. I've seen remote desktop apps but I'm not sure they do the same thing and I've seen mention of things like orb and vlc but does anyone know if they do what I'm looking for? I have a new Samsung Moment and would love to be able to do this.

Audiogalaxy has finally open the floodgates and is allowing sign ups to their cloud streaming service. It's free and for android. You download their app to your phone, as well as the client for your computer, which scans your music collection in the designated folder and allows you to stream it to your phone. So far, it works great! It has some mis-tagging issues (it'll auto-tag on the website, which won't affect your actual files), and playlists are limited to 500 at the moment (which only bugs me because my favorites playlist on my now-dying Zune is well over 500 tracks) but the developers are taking all the feedback and are hard at work. This is the best service of its kind so far, I dare say.

How can I stream my music from my handset to my home speakers through the wifi network? I got a rooted ZTE Blade now with CM7.Im waiting for my Nexus 4 and will flash CyanogenMod on it really soon so Root access is possible if it involves that.
