What is the optimal app for getting streamed video to a Smartphone running android 2.2?
On my PC I use VLC but it seems they don't have any Android app (having donated I'm a tad miffed) so is there anything else out there for generic streaming? I have an app for specific broadcasters but I'd like one that I can pick up streams on my own.

You have seen When u r playing a video in android or in any phones the video controller like play, pause will disappear automatically when the video is running.once we touch the screen only the media controller will come to visible mode.i just what some guide to do this in my application.Please Help me out.

I was wondering if exist, or if it's possible to build, a special android release for old smartphones without basic phone functions, to be used just as standalone media player. I mean a basic distribution that allow just playing local audio files or remote files through wifi home network.
I have an old xperia x8, which is a good phone and there are a lot of android based custom roms, but i need to use it just as a media player. As soon as I power it on it has to show a list of music files to play.
I am available for an annual upgrade on november 9 after. I looked online to make sure i would be able to get the DX on the 15th when it came out. it didn't look like i was able to get a smartphone for the 2 year contract price. so, i called customer service and they said that i am indeed able to upgrade on nov 9 but i'm not eligible for the early upgrade because i am currently a smartphone user.

Just enable only services to make phone calls and everything else remain disabled(Slow down the CPU to the lowest clock speeds, lower bit depth, turn off all on-board electronics other than those necessary etc). Motivation is to save power. In my phone most of the power is consumed by Android OS (and not screen). I was wondering if I had a mode like that I could keep the phone alive in case I can't charge the phone immediately, by switching into this power saving mode.

Before video's would stream over my connection, however 2.2 comes out and know I keep getting error's or programs just shut down. I listen to podcasts and recorded shows that can go on for several hours. I'm looking for a media player with a "skip to" function, so if I get interrupted, I don't have to fiddle with my finger on a slider to find the right section. I just enter "1:33" or whatever and the player goes to that location. Neither the stock media player nor mixzing support that (that I can see). I don't need full RSS support, automatic downloading, I just want a media player that I can skip to a particular spot in a track by specifying the time.

View 35 Replies View RelatedIf you go to Settings->Wireless and Networks -> Wifi Settings and then hit the Menu button (the one with for squares on the bottom left) and go to advanced there is an option for Wi-fi Sleep Policy. It looks like the default is to turn off wi-fi and switch to mobile data when the screen turns off? Is this the optimal setting? Wouldn't you want it to never turn off (assuming you are in range of wifi)? That way any alerts etc. are all handled over wifi instead of data?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm developing an app that starts with a main menu, and then continues through three different steps (activities) to a final activity where the task is marked complete. On this last activity, i have several additional options (add note, share, etc..) and i also have a return to main menu button.
My question is.. how do i stack the activities so that calling finish() on the final activity will return back to the first activity launched? i am currently just starting the new activity via an intent, so pressing back on this screen doesn't return me to home as i would like.
The problem is that if I go to manage apps > running apps, I see Media process (DownloadService) always running! that could drain my battery and/or download data, in any case I don't see a point in having it always running, so I would like to get rid of it!
what I discovered so far is that the process is related to both gapps and Downloadprovider.apk package included in any CM10.1 build, in fact:
1. the process starts appearing only after installing the gapps (I use a very minimal 4.2 gapps package, about 10mb only)
2. if I delete Downloadprovider.apk package from /System/App, the process doesn't appear anymore
The problem is that if I delete the Downloadprovider.apk package then I start getting gapps related FC's and phone becomes unstable (and very probably will not be possible to download anymore things from the browser and/or play store)!
So what could I do to safely get rid of that process? Maybe disable or freeze some other apps/processes? But I wouldn't know what to disable exactly..
Maybe it was related to Maps since I installed maps 7.x I don't see that process anymore!

I just got my new galaxy note (i717) on friday (immediately flashing it with OnlyOne beta 2 (ics)) and I would like to use it for a bit of podcasting using the front camera to record myself while I read text from some teleprompter software.
I can record video from the front camera just fine, and it actually comes out a bit higher quality than I expected even, but for the life of me, when i hit the record button and then switch away from the camera app to the prompter app, it gives me an audio notification that the camera has stopped recording.
is there prompter software that has an integrated video recorder? (that'd be pretty sweet imho) or better, some way to record video while another app (that's not particularly resource intensive) is in use? - I don't mind trimming and cutting the video together (there are actually some pretty decent editing tools for android i've found) but I can't figure out a way to record and prompt at the same time...
