Media :: Live aquarium backgrounds use a lot of battery?

Media :: Making Backgrounds Go Into Default Backgrounds Location

Jun 6, 2010

I have two questions about wallpapers on my nexus one. First off, is there anyway to take a custom image that I have and I am using and put it into the list of "default" backgrounds so that when I change it I don't have to go through that resize hassle and everything and I can have it in a more organized location. Also are there any applications or tools out there to get great looking wallpapers for the nexus one. Sometimes when using an image it doesn't look that good and the selection thing when doing it from the gallery is annoying because of the selection has to be a square yet my screen is 800x480.

Media :: Watch Live TV UK - App Or Website

Jan 15, 2010

For the iPhone, you can go to...

iphone.tvcatchup.com

And this allows you to watch live TV for free, in the UK. It works fairly well.

So I was wondering, is there anything that allows me to watch LIVE TV? Such as BBC 1 - 4, or ITV and E4 etc?

An App or a similar website?

Media :: Watch Live NHL Games

Does anyone know a app or website to watch live NHL games on Android? The live streaming sites that I know of do not work due to flash, so maybe I just have to wait for flash updates. I got excited when I noticed the Ustream Viewer beta app, but it only has featured channels which I have yet to see an NHL game on or any sport for that matter.

HTC EVO 4G :: Live Wallpaper Went Away When Battery Died / What To Do?

Jun 8, 2010

First off, I purposely killed my battery. I bought the phone and that night (June 5th) I charged it to 100%. I have since let it dwindle with periodic use and only marginal charging from when I copy files to the SD card via USB.

So it finally dwindled down to 20% today and I decided to kill it. I busted out android-wifi-tether and played YouTube and refreshed web pages from my iPhone on its wifi hotspot, and in no time got it down to 5%. I kept playing with it and finally it died. w00t! Mission accomplished!

So I plugged it in and began charging it. I waited about 10 mins and then powered it on. It booted up and immediately I noticed the carbon wallpaper. No more live wallpaper. I set live wallpaper and it works but I wonder why it showed me what looks like a carbon wallpaper (a bunch of gray pixels tiled all over). I wonder if Android disabled live wallpapers in a fleeting attempt to conserve battery. Any ideas?

BTW, I'm still VERY pleased with the battery and in about 45 minutes of USB (not wall) charging and idling it's already up to 20%! That's pretty quick! More info: Another 50 mins another 20% charge. So I think it charges ~20% every ~60 mins it seems. So I guess 10% every 30 mins or so.

HTC EVO 4G :: How Quickly Does Battery Charge - Animations Off - No Live Backgroung

Jun 9, 2010

I plugged in my phone at roughly midnight last nite.. when i woke up i checked my BatteryIndicator app and it said it had been fully charged since 12:52 am... somehow i think that that cannot be right... full charge in a single hour?

I just looked at my SystemPanel app to check the usage history and it showed this...

At 10:52 i took a screenshot that shows that my battery had gone down from 100% at 7:28 when i unplugged it, to 59% (see picture below).. I had light-moderate usage during this time as the following picture from SystemPanel will show.. the phone was inactive for a while (blue) and the CPU was only a little active, about 10%(bottom Green) yet the battery still was draining pretty rapidly...

This picture shows that the first 30 mins ate 5%-10% of my battery..

- I have animations off
- No live backgroung
- I have changed my radio from GSM auto (prl) to CDMA auto (prl) <- that eliminates the cell standby battery usage by elimitating the time without a signal (used to be 20%, now its 1%)
- I have only the mobile setting on (GPS, 4G, Bluetooth, Hotspot are all off)

Basically i have turned off all the settings that make this phone better then my Treo 700WX

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 :: 2.1 Battery Drain - Particle Storm Live Wallpaper

A few days ago I updated to 2.1 . And the phone works great. Now the thing is that yesterday I noticed the battery was draining a little bit faster than usual, I had been using the Particle Storm Live Wallpaper, so I thought that was the reason. What was my surprise when I changed to an static wallpaper and noticed the battery kept going down really fast. I checked the battery usage and it said that Wifi was draining 33%, Screen 20 something and the live wallpaper only 3 %. Is it normal for Wifi to drain so much battery? Does it depend on the use or what? Shouldn't 3g drain more battery than Wifi?

General :: Media Scanner Battery Drain - Searching For Reason

Jun 22, 2012

I am experiencing massive battery drain from *wakelock*/mediaplayer while music playback.

For now, i have tried everything:

- full wipe
- music playback on fresh wiped rom
- formatting sdcard / internal storage
- disabling media server
- debugging with logcat
- ...

Currently, the mediaserver drains more power then any other process, including screen. The phone gets not hot, but warm while only playing music with screen off. That was not happening before, as i listen music daily.

After all, the problem is most likely caused by a corrupt file, but how can i locate this file ? I have 2300 mp3s on my phone, so testing every single one would be a bit complicated...

General :: Media Scanner SDCard CPU Utilization Battery Drain

Nov 26, 2013

Often your Media scanner can misbehave and eat lot of CPU, Battery un-wantedly.

I had been digging out how to fix it, and here are my solutions. Perhaps try al of them, it would definitely relieve your cpu and battery usage by large. Solution works on any Android version:

Solution 1. Clear media storage data

Settings > applications > Media Storage > clear data, force stop and reboot.

Solution 2. Remove unwanted media files Navigate to /sdcard/DCIM/.thumbnails and delete all files. Repeat for external sd card. On AOSP roms, Android gallery creates too many of thumbnails that later becomes problematic for media scanner.

Solution 3. Analyze and delete excessive media files Find out what files are causing media scanner to go mad. Use any sdcard analyst (I use ES file manager > menu > Sd card analyst) to determine which directory has lots of files/subdirectories inside it. Any directory having >1000 files/folders is an alarmingly high number. Get rid of them (if you can).

Solution 4. Probe and delete bad/damaged media If you're sure you've tried above solutions and still encountering battery drain, its time to dig deeper with developer tools. Pre-requisite: You must be rooted, and have android developer tools (adb) setup. With ADB tools installed, enter shell and acquire su permissions

Code:
adb shell
su

Then run top (linux task manager) to see which process is eating cpu. You can filter top results

Code:

top -grep media

this would give you a result like

Quote:

130|root@n7000:/ # top | grep media
1905 0 10% S 7 23080K 6168K bg media /system/bin/mediaserver
2808 0 40% S 3 3524K 740K media_rw /system/bin/sdcard
2825 0 9% S 19 255832K 43936K bg u0_a5 android.process.media

%age cpu shows media server is eating cpu and needs to be fixed. Run the following command to determine which file is it currently reading

Code:

lsof | grep media_rw

If the media service is stuck at a directory/file for a long time, you know it's a damaged media file, you should get rid of it.

Once you get rid of such files, Its guaranteed media server would finish scanning soon enough.

Solution 5: Format SD cards If nothing works (or you're too lazy of trying solution 4): Take backup and format Internal, external sd card and copy only selective files/folders that you need. Problems would go away for sure.

Solution 6: Disable Media scanner If your Droid is against you and it just won't tame, its time to disable the media scanner. You can do this from adb shell

Code:

pm disable com.android.providers.media/com.android.providers.media.MediaScannerReceiver All Solutions with full detail: Fix Android Media server scanner SDcard CPU, Battery drain

Android :: Backgrounds App

Dec 30, 2009

I downloaded the backgrounds app and i love it. found some backgrounds right off the back that i liked and saved them. well when i saved the pics it says that they were saved to the sd card in the backgrounds folder. well when i go to my albums there is no backgrounds folder in there. so i figured i could hook it up over usb and just cut and paste them in a folder that i knew would show up in albums. strike 2. so i was fooling with the app and i found that they have photo frames that you can add a pic to and save them. well i tried that and a backgrounds folder appeared under albums but the backgrounds i saved still dont show up. strike 3.

General :: Media Scanner / Manager Causing CPU Battery Usage / Drainage

Nov 22, 2012

Have a brand new HTC One X+ (AT&T). Having an issue where after boot and sometimes all of the sudden during the day, the phone gets hot and battery level drops l like ton of bricks. Using Android Task Manager App and enabling monitor of system processes and selecting realtime monitor, I've traced the problems to "android.process.media". This appears to be something to do with Android scanning the device for media files (audio/video/etc) and creating some sort of database. I also usually see the "Music Enhancer" process which has to do with Beats Audio according to HTC (but I have Beats turned off.)

I've seen old threads of people with same problem and in some cases it had to do with a "corrupted" media file and they had to remove all media files and/or factory reset their device. I just spent an entire weekend customizing this device! Plus, how the heck do you prevent yourself from copying the corrupted file over if it was a corrupted mp3 or something?

I'm pretty sure my issue stems from the fact I used my media manager (Media Monkey) to sync over 2,800 audio files to the device. My collection is of high bitrate quality, about 16GB worth of music. I'm pretty sure this is what it is choking on. What I'm not sure of is if the Media Scan the Android device is performing is just a "normal check" for changes/addition/deletions to any of the media files. This of course would take a lot of time and CPU if it has to scan 2,800 files every reboot or periodically. It seems launching Google Play sometimes starts it too as I also sometimes see Google Play Service:Music or something like that (even though I don't stream any of my audio from Google Play.)
