HTC Hero :: Downloads Not Work On 3G (Only Start With HSDPA Signals)
May 13, 2010I'm on the Orange network and am having problems with the 3G network. Various apps (Facebook, Market, Head to Head & Internet Browser) will only download data when there is a connection to the HSDPA signal.
The 3G signal has shown as 3 or 4 bars but will consistently not download any data. Once the HSDPA signal is found, then the download starts. This can be frustrating as there isn't always a HSDPA signal.
Media :: HTC Desire - Media Player Doesn't Work
Sep 12, 2010I have just got a HTC desire and like many people would like to be able to get rid of my iPod all together and have just my phone. The problem I'm having is that the media player on the HTC desire doesn't work nearly as well as iTunes. I have several issues that would needed to be resolved and wanted to know if anyone had a solution to any of them
1) Audio books, I have many of these on my iTunes and on an iPod they are displayed in a separate folder and are removed from shuffles, not so on the HTC, solution?
2) Podcasts, Again i subscribe to many podcasts on my iTunes and wanted to know if there was any way of adding them to my HTC automatically or having them download automatically (Despite this being very annoying and clogging up my hard drive with duplicated podcasts)
3)Playlists I am currently using iTunes agent to sync from my iTunes but it means that I cannot sync playlists that i can then play on my phone. (I can sync playlists just not then play them on their own once they are on my phone)

The one thing I love about the iPhone is always having my audibooks with me, and the fact that the book remembers where I left off. Does android offer any kind of audiobook support? I don't mind converting things to a needed format. And how's the music player overall? Do i need to use a library, or can i just play the files directly? I loved that capability of my rockboxed iRiver.

Didn't know if anyone else is having this problem, but I wanted to share the newest information I have towards solving the issue.
Folder layout to work like an Ipod
Ok, here's the latest news and progress: I contacted Kenwood directly to get some help on the issue. I told the person I was speaking with at Kenwood that I was trying to get my droid to work with my Kenwood deck. His response was that it does NOT work with droids. He said he had one and that he had no luck getting it to work. Ummm....ok. My response was "I think it does work and let me explain why...." That's when I went into a detailed explanation of how I got the droid to play two songs and then more by putting them into a certain folder. Here's the good news: He then told me about a program you put on your computer called Kenwood music editor. It looks at music on a mass storage drive, analyzes it and makes it readable by a Kenwood deck. Great! Why didn't you tell me that in the first place.
So, I downloaded it and hooked up the droid. It recognized it, found my music and did a few things. I then hooked it up to the deck and it instantly found the music and played it. I did notice that the program put a Kenwood file on my droid. The deck controls the music and all. Success! Well, kinda....
This is why I say I'm solving the issue..... It only organizes the music by artist and song. No playlists. The program says playlists but makes playlists into Artist names. Which means that each artist is a playlist. Not quite what I was looking for but I'm making headway on it.
There's the newest info I have on this. Maybe it helps someone who is having the same issue. And, if anyone has anymore input or info on this problem it would be much appreciated. I'm getting closer to making it work like my ipod but not quite there just yet.
Media :: How To Get Streaming Audio Browser Links To Work
Sep 18, 2010I'm a subscriber to a show which I listen to on the PC while I work. I'd like to be able to listen to it on my new Droid X.There are three links on the site. The first one streams to windows media player. The second link streams to real audio. The third link downloads a podcast in mp3 format. So far I haven't figured out how to get any of them to work.The windows media link brings up a video player that says the file can not be displayed or played.The RA link downloads an .ra file. Selecting the file brings up the stock music player, which says it can't play the file. (I do have the RA beta installed but it doesn't appear to be associated with .ra files and I don't know how to fix that. Are there mime types in android?)The mp3 link gives the error "Cannot download. The content is not supported on this phone." Now that's just wrong. It's an MP3 file. The stock player should be able to play it.I'm not greedy -- I'd be happy if any one of these three possibilities worked.

Nov 7, 2009I was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting subtitles to work in any video player on Android so far.
I though that I may be lucky after converting an MKV with embedded subs to an MP4 and playing in Meridian with no luck. After having a look over the Meridian FAQ/Tutorial I can see they are supported, though only as an additional SRT. Having a had a look around it appears extracting SRTs from MKV is not nearly as easy as you'd think (I've so far been unsuccessful) so I thought I'd see if anyone else has had more luck.
Media : Audio Won't Work On Computer When I Email A Video From Phone
Sep 3, 2010The audio/video works perfectly if I watch the recording on my phone, but when I email the video to my gmail account and save it to my computer, it opens in Media Player and there's no sound. Does anyone know how to fix this? I have a Samsung Moment.

Is there a way to detect when the GPS has lost signal (when I drive through a tunnel for example)? I tried to use te on Status Changed listener because I thought that the "temporarily unavailable" status was associated to a lack of signal but it doesn't seem to work well. I also tried to make a count with low precision locations rounds to trigger but it also fails.

Aug 4, 2010Got my phone for a while already and never had a problem with my internet connection (3g signal), every where I go around my area I had full bars and full internet. Now that I did the update to froyo 2.2 and my flash wasn't working right, I had to do a factory reset and everything work perfectly and I had the internet running normal, but after later than day I start loosing signal on locations were I usually have full signal, turn of my phone and took out the battery and wait and waited and been doing this for a while. So connections comes on and off, when its on its about 5 to 20 seconds before my internet connections goes down after. Is the task killer messing up my connection even though, I always had a task killer before the update and never lost signal or connection?

Jul 24, 2010I had horrible lag ever since I got my vibrant from market, web, email everything. I even thhought about returning it, BUT I solved my problem(at least mine). I was at t-mobile vibrantforum and one post saying that factory reset will fix this problem. I gave it a try, and BANG! My phone is lag free. If you have lag problem, give it a try. I know its pain, reinstalling all the apps, but having lag all the time is much bigger pain. Also, I had trouble getting decent 3g signal, and I unchecked data roaming, and I am getting much better 3g signal too.

For example, I open up the internet browser or an app that requires a connection and it starts the Internet connection without me having to do it manually? And is there a way of it disconnecting automatically when the connection is idle? Also, on my phone, when I am connected, I only ever see H, E and G but never 3G. HTC Droid Eris :: Phone Rebooted Itself With No Signals
Dec 13, 2009It's "booting up" even though I haven't even touched it. Seem's like it rebooted itself. Then once it's up I get no Cell signal at all. Wifi worked but no Cell Signal. As a test I tried making a call to confirm and it says something like "Phone not registered" I now reboot the phone myself, and it's ok now.

I toggle on/ off / on the wi-fi and the phone indicates this as being on. My next idea is to factory reset the phone and if that does not work to send it back to 3.

HTC Desire :: Only Getting GPRS Signals When Surfing Internet
Aug 7, 2010I've had the Desire a few weeks now and I love it. My problem is that when I surf the mobile internet. I am only getting a GPRS signal? i.e., I am only getting the 'G' symbol and the arrows in the notification bar when I am surfing. I've been various parts of the country surfing the internet but never ever seem to be able to get anything other than GPRS? - I keep reading about 3G,EDGE and HSPDA but it just doesn't seem like my Desire will connect to these, just the bog standard GPRS? Any settings I need to change?
Cos I am thinking that my web pages could be loading a lot quicker. Its just annoying because you read that 3G covers most of the UK, yet everywhere I've been going doesn't seem to show anything other than the single 'G' on the notification bar. (One interesting thing to note is that I downloaded the 3G watchdog app and that app shows you a little 3G notification in the upper bar - strangely enough this shows I have a half decent 3G signal, yet whenever I am surfing I am only getting GPRS).

Mar 28, 2012Once upon a time I used another website to customize my new Ascend. Long story very short, I messed it up. I am pretty sure I deleted some stock stuff, and since my computer that had all of the backups on it has died, I have no way of getting it back.
I've tried flashing back to stock, I've tried flashing to different roms, I've tried doing a factory reset, I've even tried loading the stock zipped rom from the sd card. Of all the methods that I tried, the only one that doesn't hang on the android screen is flashing a new rom - so I'm using CM7 for now. Everything else kills the phone, it never boots past the android screen.
I just went thru the gauntlet again, trying to "fix" my phone, but nothing worked except flashing CM7. My camera hasn't worked since I started messing with this phone when I first got it. Now, all of a sudden, my internet is having issues.
I have tried downloading the camera.apk, but it doesn't seem to do anything - is there something I'm supposed to do other than stick the apk file in the sd card root?. I still can't use the bar code scanner, or a shopping list scanner thingy - everything says the camera had an unexpected error and/or the device failed to give access to the camera.
Going to RoM Manager, trying to download a different RoM (I have paid for the premium) and I get the you must have CWM installed message. Okay, I wiped everything, that makes sense. Click the install and either nothing happens or I get the message can't get an internet signal. The browser will connect, if I click retry, retry, retry 20 times.
I really dont know if I can justify the cost of a new phone, seeing as I dont really need it - I just want it. Need fixing the signal and camera on this one? FYI, the 3g icon on the status bar shows connected.
Android :: How To Receive Signals In An Activity To Kill Child Process?
Jun 2, 2010My application calls Runtime.exec() to launch an executable in a separate process at start up time. I would like this child process to get killed when parent activity exits. Now I can use onDestroy() to handle regular cases, but not "Force quit", shutdowns from DDMS, or kill from the console since those don't run onDestroy(). The addShutdownHandler() does not seem to be invoked in these cases either. Is there any other hook or signal handler that informs my activity that it's about to get terminated? As an alternative is there a way to have the system automatically kill the child process when the parent die?
