I've heard from numerous sources that 4.4 has a way to backup and restore user app data similarly to how the Google account syncs contacts, calendar events, etc.
Is this true? How to verify? This does seems unlikely, though, as app data is a dynamic thing, and can take quite a lot of space on the device.
If this is indeed true, ROM hopping just got 5000% a whole lot easier.

I have just updated xperia x10 from 1.6 to 2.1 (Rogers) and figured it out that all my applications were lost.Before the update, I installed the last PC Companion Software from SE and made two backups using the backup and restore application.After the update, when I tried to restore using it, there's no market application checkbox. Everything else (contacts, messages..) was restored.The paid applications are shown in the Market Download tab to install, but just that (because they are associated with google account).Nothing more. I lost about +50 apps with their user data.I searched all the net about it, but the only info I found it was that the backup and restore tool just save the application links.How about the user data? I reinstall some of the apps that I had, but no user data. Am I the only one that had this problem? Is there any advanced tool to try to undelete internal memory of the phone?

I did a Backup of all my stuff on the phone, when I'd updated my phone and turned it on it asked me to setup the phone again with the Language, Time & Date etc and now when I try to restore my settings it says "Could Not Restore" when it is almost done.

I have several apps that I don't want to lost my data for-high scores, levels, etc-and I can't figure out how to transfer all of that. I tried My Backup Pro, but it has to have root access to transfer data (It'll move the APK files, but really, I can do the same thing from the google play store!). I am so frustrated right now, because I love my new phone, but I REALLY don't want to have to start over on some of my apps. (I play several RPGs...lots of hours in those!) All of my apps came from the google play store. how I can transfer my data?

After some search i want to try to reset application and phone settings, but, using a command found on web, I launch a system restore, and all data was erased.
Fortunately all Contacts was restored, but all Calendar entry and all Notes was deleted, and She never perform a backup.
It's possible, to find Calendar entry and Notes in some folder (on phone or on SD ) to restore it?
What will happen if I just copy everything on my old android phone using my pc and paste into my new phone?

Why doesn't android simply backup all your data along with your contacts etc...?

Titanium backup does the job but after restoring on a new rom I get a lot of fc's and none of the apps works. I cannot restore call log and text messages, accounts, etc.

I Installed Smoked Glass V5.0 from V4.5. I ended up doing it twice, and to make a long story short I lost my files in AK Notebook.
Here's my question:
1. Should I backup my current configuration
2. Then "Restore" my backup prior to upgrade
3. Grab my files (hoping they will be there) toss them on my mac
4. Then just "Restore" back to where I am now?
Need those files by tomorrow, any assistance is much appreciated. It's not that it's an emergency without them, but I will have to do some legwork to gather that info again.
When i click on batch, then run to backup my apps it jumps back to the Backup/Restore screen with all the apps, nothing gets backed up. I have backed up before with Titanium and it worked. I reinstalled Busybox, didn't help. If i uninstall and reinstall will i lose all the things i did like freeze apps etc ? When i try to update through the marketplace it says installation error, package file was not signed correctly.

If I backup the stock voicemail program with Titanium Backup will I be able to restore them all after wiping all data and/or installing a different ROM (as well as Sprint VVM)? If not, is there another way to backup the downloaded voicemails on the phone, i.e. not emailing them to myself?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI prefer the 4.3 dialer to the new 4.4 dialer in kitkat. I tried removing google dialer and replacing it with a copy of 4.3's dialer from my nandroid. It sort of worked. The dialer launches and works as you'd expect. However as soon as you press send to make a call, the dialer screen disappears. The call is placed successfully but you can't end it, see the keypad, or speaker options. The in call screen basically disappears. You can still get to call history but none of the call screen options are visible.
View 7 Replies View RelatedNot to be a censor police but I am getting annoyed with the play store allowing profanity in the user reviews. This is the third time this past month I saw the f word clear as day. This time just looking up some WiFi scanner called WiFi Analyzer.
There is no way to actually report the review except for spam. Also I need to go into the store to check for updated apps and to read the release notes but if they are going to allow filth in the reviews at least give us the option to not show the reviews. Instead now I have to remember not to scroll down to far.
I can block them on Firefox and Chrome using Ad Block but only on the computer.
Using custom kitKat ROM on nexus 7 and it's great. The only problem I have is that the full 2nd user cannot find the location in weather apps or GPS test BUT... 2nd user can get location using Google maps???

View 2 Replies View RelatedI live in Denmark I have gotten the 2.1 update a few days ago.The SE startscreen does not work anymore (I am using ADW.launcher anyways but I am thinking about reinstalling the update again to get everything to work as intended.I have notised that the new backup and restore program contains a menu item during backup called Programs from market. I tried to do a backup but that menu item didnt seem to progress from 0 to 100% like the others (Sms phonebook and so on) so I am unsure if the backup file actully contains info on Programs I installed (from market) or not.Problem is that I am getting sick of first remembering all the apps I have downloaded and then downloading them all again. It takes hours and would be so much easier if phone either makes a backup of all programs/apps or at least keept a list of what was installed.Its is not possible to find the programs via market/download list (or at least has not been possible for the last 2 updates for the phone)

I've wiped and installed a Cyanogen ROM to check out Android without Sense - can I then just restore the old back over the Cyanogen ROM and get back t how I was, or do I need to re-flash the other sense-based ROM I was using first? Second question - if I want to move between different ROMs without losing my contacts, SMS etc, should I just flash it without doing the wipe first? What if I have to wipe - then I need some other kind of app-based backup to restore?
