View 5 RepliesFrom Android widget screen guidelines,we know that, home screen has 4*4 cells, and in portrait orientation, each cell is 80 pixels wide by 100 pixels tall. I think these are for baseline HVGA screen. How about for large screens and hdpi screens, do they still have 4*4 cells for widget and each cell in portrait orientation is still 80 pixels * 100 pixels?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIm on the Rom manager 2.1. It's been working for days now and I backup my roms pretty much every day. Today I installed a new app Vlingo and my apps disappeared off my home screen. I restored from 2 days ago, but I'm getting the same thing. The apps load at first, but within 5 minutes, they go away. Then, if I apply some apps on the now empty screens, they will be on top of the old ones when I reboot.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought myself the HTC Wildfire about a week back. I have a few questions regarding the wallpaper and the lock screen resolution.
The Wildfire screen resolution is 240x320. What should the ideal resolution be for my lock screen and wallpaper images?
When I set a 240x320 image as wallpaper or lock screen it appears very pixelated. However, when using resolutions of 640x480 and above, the wallpaper looks great but the lock screen is still pixelated. Also, when selecting the lock screen image I can't select the whole thing. Parts always get cropped.
Somehow the HTC backgrounds that are present on the phone don't look as pixelated although they are of a lower resolution.
When i recently installed an app (Launcher Pro) and i wanted to restart my phone to clear everything an restart all the services, so i held down the standby button and selected shutdown.Whilst it was shutting down i was turning the screen on and off (really i dont know what i was doing) and it came up something similar to what i found here but it didn't shutdown just went straight to that screen.Accept it didn't say s-off, (and had a little android robot skating )
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an app which has a download size of about 7MB and an installed/ configured size of about 25MB. So far, I've been handling this by using the SD card for the baulk of the data. This works fine although the installation process is a little cumbersome. I notice the smallest of the Archos 5 tablets is 8GB.
Can someone confirm whether this is all part of the internal memory? In other words, can /data/data/com.mypackage fill this memory (potentially). If so, does this mean there is a good chance that getExternalStorageDirectory() will quite often return null? Because people will have less need to use an external SD card.
I was wondering if the Android had any limitations that would prevent 300+ MB's worth of videos to be included in the application?
Currently, I have several iPhone apps that do this, and due to demand, I am looking at the possibility of porting them over to the Android.
I've been studying the screen support of Android and yes, while it is flexible, I still don't see how you can support a "really large" screen like the Samsung tablet is going to have. I think no matter what you end up with lots of wasted real estate. The problem is the Android doesn't automatically "scale up" your application if you run in compatibility mode - rather, it fits it into a postage stamp instead. Because of this, how can you really make an app that will "never" have some postage stamping at all, unless you use all 9patch drawables and Absolute Layouts? (Well, you could draw the GUI yourself, which is what my Reloop Sequencer does). As an example, my drum machine app, Electrum Drum, has a certain layout for the buttons and pads. Now, on a larger screen, it would be nice to just make all the buttons and pads bigger. I need the same layout relationships between all the elements though. Basically I just want a "scaled" up version of the UI. Maybe I can achieve this with 9patch drawables and relative layouts? The issue is I could certainly make "large" graphical elements (if not use a 9patch drawable) but there is no way for something, for example, to know that hey, I have LOTS of space I can use.
Let's say for example, that you want a completely different layout on a tablet - say you want more buttons, etc, on your layout now. You can't do it because there is no way for the android app to "know" that this "large" screen is actually larger than "large". A Droid X probably reports itself as large, although the screen is only 4.x inches or so, where you would not have room for those extra buttons. This is no where near as large as 7" or 10", even at a pixel density of 170 or 240. I think the default behavior would have been better to scale up images in compatibility mode, and if the dev could provide higher res images then it would use them of course (put them in the large high dpi folders), but I don't see how a layout itself can scale correctly in really large cases like a tablet. We need some better explanation of how to handle these cases. I still don't understand how a normal app is going to be enabled to scale up easily. It would have been easy if Android would have just "magnified" the view, but it doesn't.
I was on the menu thing (the bit where you touch the arrow button on the main screen) with all my apps up on show but I must have touched something when i looked away because now, none of my apps are showing up when i go onto it. I have to find some other way of getting to them. The only ones that are showing up are Settings, App Sharing, Setup and a few others. But i just want to get all of my apps back onto one screen?
View 5 Replies View RelatedHas anyone installed an external app i.e. from an SD card on there Wildfire. If yes, which app did you use. One way to install an external app is through HTC sync, however considering that sync doesn't work with the Wildfire yet, I need to find another way to do this.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is extremely annoying since I have a new 32GB memory card class 6. There's about 11mb of internal memory on the phone left and I have tried to move applications to memory card but some don't have this feature. I have used swapper2 but this only makes the problem worse. I have a rooted HTC Wildfire mobile with the WildPuzzel rom installed.
Low on memory and the phone is slowing down and is becoming unresponsive some times. Completely ridiculous how the device comes with only 500mb of internal memory, since this is a smart phone/computer that's not very smart. Is there a method to use the memory card as internal storage space or as ram. As mentioned I used the swapper2 programme with no success. Any other hacks, I have tried over clocking but don't want to use this. I want to address the issues of low memory.
I have some games that take up about 20mb of ram:
galigochaser 18.7mb
hungry shark 11mb
speed forge 7.3mb
Just an example of application that I would like to move but the feature is not built in the application.
I asked my parents for a new phone, specifically a HTC Desire because I'm a gamer so obviously I wanted a phone with an awesome processor. But at the time of my birthday I got a HTC Wildfire (apparently the Desire was sold out at every store my dad went to). Now there's nothing wrong with the Wildfire. The battery life is great and it doesn't take to much space in my pocket but I felt a little bit disappointed when I checked out the market. The games I found were at the same level as the games I had on my old phone, a Sony Ericsson K550i. Also, when I checked Youtube and various other websites for game tips I couldn't find them. For example Buka, Robo Defense, ToonWarz, Speed Forge 3D etc etc. Is this because they are not available for the Wildfire because of the 589 mhz processor? If that is the case, will the maybe be available when the 2.2 update arrives (with the processor speed up)? Or do I need to download them from a specific site because all the games I find on the market are free.
View 6 Replies View RelatedBeen thinking of getting a wildfire, it looks like a good phone for the price range I'm in. However today I've read something about the HTC desire that it suffers with a lack of internal memory and this limits the amount of apps available you can store on it (because you cannot store onto SD card) Does the wildfire have the same problem as this, and if it does will it be rectified with the release of froyo?, or is there anyway around it? It seems a shame to have all these apps available on the Android Market but only a limited space to store them on.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am not sure, if this is the correct platform to talk about it, however I would like to know something about 'How Android supports the large screen display'. I mean here that suppose I want to port the Android SDK to a large portable device having a large display as compared to HTC G1 mobile screen, what all the OS modules (e.g surface manager, kernel: display driver etc) I need to look upon/modify.I guess what I am asking here is not a new subject as I can already see by below links that the Android OS is ported for large screen devices.

I have layout issues in my application on Samsung Galaxy Tab. It has a 7" TFT display with 1024x600 resolution.
Galaxy Tab prefers images in "res/drawable-hdpi" to the ones in "res/ drawable". That is understandable. However resources in "res/layout" are used instead of the ones in "res/ layout-large". Does it have a logical explanation? Or what am I doing wrong?
What is a large screen for Android?
CODE:.......................
I am trying to get a slide down animation to work, and it seems to work except that it starts with a big black screen instead of the screen that was there. So I have layout1 and layout2. When I start the animation using ViewFlipper.showNext it puts a big black background over layout1 and then slides in layout2. If I use ViewFlipper.startFlipping() it slides in layout2 out as it is sliding in layout1 -- which is what I would expect.
My slide_down.xml looks like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<set xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<translate android:fromYDelta="0" android:toYDelta="100%"
android:duration="4000" android:detachWallpaper="true"/> </set>
My java code looks like this:
ViewFlipper vf = (ViewFlipper) findViewById(R.id.DropDownList);
vf.setAnimation(AnimationUtils.loadAnimation(this, R.anim.slide_down));
vf.showNext(); or vf.startFlipping();
I'd like to test an application on a variety of screen configurations so I know that it'll work (and the layouts will look right) on tablets and other oddly sized devices.
