My sim card has been blocked on the ATT side from using data (company pays for our wireless on the condition that data is blocked). That said, I have been unable to use Android Market at all because of it. At least, that's what I think the problem is. I know my sim is not data provisioned but shouldn't Android Market work over wifi exclusively?

I have a very basic question and I hope somebody can help me. I want to buy an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S phone and use it exclusive as a WiFi phone in the USA. Can I buy an unlocked phone and expected to work with WiFi without having to have an agreement with the phone companies? I don't mind paying $600+ for the phone, but it is the monthly fees from the phone companies that I would like to avoid. I am almost certain that this would work, but I just wanted to ask that question before I actually buy the phone. I want to make sure that the phone companies and/or Samsung have not done something that would prevent me from doing this without a contract.

Finally go to the development team and explained about the screen size on the Tattoo and they need to "sign" the file as compatible. They emailed back saying they have found the settings and will submit a new copy to Google soon
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've read a few posts about the amazing deficiencies of Tattoo's bluetooth connections.I've got a built in car bluetooth kit - I forget the name, but it's one of the more expensive ones that comes built in with company cars.My Tattoo refuses to pair and connect.Before I give up, I wanted to know if I 'root', will this help?I say 'root', I know what it's about, but haven't looked into what is needed to do it and how easy it is and what disadvantages, if any it has....I can't do without the bluetooth usage on my car, if I can't get working, then I'll just have to sell - which I don't want to.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a brand new unlocked HTC Tattoo from overseas, I live in the United States and my carrier is AT&T. My question is the HTC tattoo is a quad band phone that runs off of frequencys gsm/gprs/edge: 850/900/1800/1900...which are excactly the same bands that at&t uses for there 3g network..I made sure the phone was going to be able to read those specific bands before purchasing. To my dissapointment when I inserted my sim card all my phone would recieve is At&t edge network (2g). I called At&t customer service and of course they couldnt figure out why my phone wasnt recieving the 3g signal. I then called HTC customer service and they told me that its true that my phone is a quad-band phone but apparently its the european version?
FRom what he told me is AT&T does use the bands 850/900/1800/1900 but that they are in the (UMTS) versions of the bands...can enyone explain this to me..what is the difference from (GSM) and (GSM)UMTS)..he told me that my phone will recieve 3g coverage anywheres else in the world practically but the united states...im very dissapointed at this news being that I just got my phone and it kinda renders it useless if I can't use it on the 3g network.
My girlfriend has just taken out a contract and received an HTC Tattoo. Unfortunately neither of us can get it to make a reliable Wifi connection, if at all. It's so bad that she's on the point of taking it back. Has anyone else any experience of the Wifi ability of these? I've tried changing the channel the base station is using, turning off the security (I usually use WPA2-Personal, which it seems to understand, and as I say occasionally connects to) and moving to all sorts of positions around the router (a Lynksys WAG54G2).Neither my N95, nor either of our laptops have any problem connecting to the Wifi.

my newly bought Tattoo became unbootable a few days ago.It worked perfectly fine two days ago, then it started to randomly reboot itself, but after that, it became completely unbootable, as in, it was stuck at the "TATTOO" screen. The phone internals are completely untouched, no custom images, not rooted, no nothing, it's factory fresh.The battery is full too, and I didn't install anything that could possibly have corrupted the bootloader (or whatever is failing to load).I already tried to wipe the user data _TWICE_ (using HOME + BACK + POWER) with no success. I'm also perfectly able to get into HBOOT (using VOLDOWN + MENU + POWER), and connect via usb (using "FASTBOOT USB" from HBOOT). However, I can't completely wipe the cache with fastboot.exe from the android-sdk, since it doesn't allow it: "erasing 'cache'... FAILED (remote: not allow)".

I can connect to my Wifi at my uni address with no problems, so it is obviously a fault with the wireless rather than the phone.
The phone asks for the WEP password which I put in correctly, it then says "obtaining IP address" only to return with 'unsuccessful' or 'disconnected' - which may indicate that there is some security that is stopping the phone connecting?

So, using that I have made my WiFi of PC to Access Point Mode. So, now I am able to connect to PC using that WiFi network. But I am unable to access internet. The Sensor List application does not display any coordinates for any of the sensors, just like they don't work. As I've read, I think the accelerometer driver is akmd, and if I run a ps, it's not running. More than that, I can't even find it in system/bin... There are also no akmd* files in data/misc. I am using Cupcake 1.67 (tried 1.65 too and it doesn't work either).Any tutorial on how to gain root access? Maybe that will help (though I did have root access before reflashing and tried the old rm /data/misc/akmd* stuff, but that didn't help).

I'm considering changing my phone (quite old Motorola) with something from the 21 century..While looking for one (HTC), I found, that only Tattoo can fit in my budget.There are, however, couple of question I'd like to ask:
Does Tattoo support offline GPS navigation (and if so - can you, please, suggest a app for this). Most of what google has to say about this is related to Google maps (obviously), but it looks like this can't be done there. And i really don't see the point having a GPS antenna that requires Wi-fi/data connection in additionIs the lower resolution / screen really such a pain for the apps in the market. Are there any problems with the all-day apps, that one needs?I might have a chance to buy a second hand Iphone 3g 16 for 40-50 euro higher price. Can you advise what's the better choice? I'm not sure about the condition of the iphone, but lets say it has only cosmetic problems, which doesn't bother me.
Like to utilize my new GV number, but the difficulty integrating SMS and incoming calls with the built-in contacts program has me reluctant.
