Aug 27, 2010Anyone know how long it will take for this to happen? I'd like to be able to installed the OTA without loosing root and having to wipe out my phone

HTC Incredible :: How To Update Froyo OTA Without Loosing Root Or Settings?
Sep 2, 2010I am not responsible if this does not work for your case or if you damage your phone in any way. This information is provided to attempt to help other people in the community that were having the same issues I was for the OTA. The way I did my OTA and got root back is this: (simplified version)
- install unrevoked 3, and unrevoked forevor (s-off)
- wait for OTA message
- click install later
- reboot into recovery
- do nand backup
- find and download stock 2.1 recovery zip file

- find and download (to a different location) clockworks mod zip file
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever
(near the bottom of the page)
- place stock 2.1 recovery file on root of sd card
- reboot into hboot
- hboot will ask to install recovery update
- click yes
- reboot back to OS
- wait for OTA message
- click install now
- wait for 10-30 minutes while phone does OTA update
- place clockworksmod zip file onto root of sd card (overwriting/deleting the 2.1 stock zip file in the process)
- reboot into Hboot
- when asked allow hboot to update recovery again
- reboot phone
- uninstall any old super user program you had on your phone
- install this new one using the information on this link

You should now have wonderful froyo with root!

I know its only been a few days and am not sure if it its possible yet. I do know some ppl have been able to keep root while upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 but from stock 2.2 is it available yet?

Mar 29, 2010Ever since rooting my phone for the first time (and I have followed BH_MAN instructions to the last T) I have noticed one thing: I have root confirmed and it works great, but If i plug my phone to the laptop and use the SDCARD (transfer photos or music or etc...) after I unplugg (ejecting it properly first) and everything returns to normal in the phone, except that I loose root access. Better Terminal Says:

And until I reboot my phone root doesn't work again.
HTC Incredible :: System Update Installed Accidentally - Root Lost
Aug 31, 2010I was sitting at my desk and work and saw the "System Update" notification pop up on my phone. I grabbed my phone, stood up, and showed my coworker. Unfortunately, in doing so I accidentally pressed "Update Now." I had planned to post-pone the update until I got home so I could Unrevoked Forever and S-Off. It's currently in the middle of installing (little ! icon w/ the Android guy next to it). I guess I'm going to lose my root. Any idea how long I'll have to wait to gain it back?

Jul 28, 2010Okay, I've asked this question in several other threads and forums, but never gotten a clear answer:
If I use Titanium to back up my Inc w/ 2.1+rooted+Leaked OTA , can I safely restore all apps, settings (including email account settings, wallpaper, home screens), and appearance once I install the Froyo 2.2 that leaked today?
I've seen some posts that say you should never apply system settings from an old ROM to a new one, but the whole reason I bought Titanium was so that I wouldn't have to re-set up all my home screens, background images, wallpapers, email accounts, etc. If I wanted to just backup/restore apps, there are a million ways to do that. I thought the whole reason Titanium only works on a rooted phone was so that I could restore EVERYTHING.
How can I SAFELY use Titanium to move to the leaked Froyo ROM without losing any of my settings, apps, or appearance?

Jun 10, 2010New DINC owner here, I am somewhat questing if my battery is anygood on my new phone. I unplugged my phone with a 100% charge and the green light on. I made one 4 minute phone call and viewed 4 emails and in that 10 minutes my battery went from 100% to 90%.
Stats are:
Unplugged for 10m 22s
android system 92%
voice calls 4%
cell standby 2%
WiFi 2%
Just viewing the battery use screen brought my phone down to 88%. Is this draining to fast? I also noticed last night at work I walked in with a 100% charge, I played around online a good amount and looked at some apps. Within an hour my battery life was down to about 60%. I realize these phones use a lot of battery but this one seems to be losing it's charge in a real hurry, my Blackberry was no where near this bad.
HTC Incredible :: Loosing Custom Ringtones Created With Stock Rincgtone Trimmer
May 27, 2010Is anyone else having trouble with custom ringtones being lost anytime the phone reboots. I keep creating them from mp3's using the stock ringtone trimmer (which is an AWESOME feature BTW) and every time I reboot the phone, they get lost and go back to the standard ringtone. I've searched here and other places a few times and haven't found any answers.

Got my X on launch day, ran the first leak .zip and reverted back to push the OTA onto my phone without a single problem (when the leak initially came out I saved all the appropriate files needed to revert before they were blacklisted). I have never rooted on any version of Android. Mainly because I just wasn't familiar enough with the know-how and I'm not going to Verizon crying because I bricked my phone claiming insurance replacement. SO - heres the run down, I've been working on PCs since 92, mostly Microsoft based, I'm very familiar with anything up to XP Pro, which I run on most of my machines (until I get a hold of a Windows 7 disc - I don't like Vista at all) I'm also very familiar with DOS commands when OSs used to be DOS based. I want to really get into Android and their operating system and learn a lot more about how it all works, after owning a Storm this really is a large step. I've always been running LP and Fancy Widgets to create the Incredibleist UI (the only thing I liked about the Dinc). I've become pretty familiar with navigating around with Astro, and terminal emulator but as you all know only so much can be achieved when not rooted.

I have already attempted to reroot using the same way I originally rooted the device and hard reset with no luck.

Aug 23, 2010So I just installed Easy Root because I was so disappointed with the new OTA update I just had to do something...So a few questions that I have are what are some must have apps to have with having a rooted Droid 1. Not much seems to be different, I am still having lag time from loading up my icons when I go back to home which was originally my main problem with the update. I have so far just downloaded Rom Manager, Wireless Tether, and Set CPU which is set at 600 mhz Max and 125 Mhz, is that alright? My last question is how do I delete the pre installed apps? Custom Roms, and kernels whats that all about? Sorry for the new bs questions I'm just really lost and have no idea what I am doing.

Oct 11, 2013I have a Rockchip RK3188 Tablet with Android 4.2.2, which I need to root ON DEVICE. Actually, the device was already rooted (using a Laptop via the adb bridge), so I already have busybox installed and I have one of my own apps in /system/app. However I managed to delete the su program (yeah great!) and therefore don't have root access any more. I know I can easily root the device again if I connect it to my laptop again, but that is not possible, because the device is at my parent's place and I can't go over there any time soon.
Therefore I want to root the device just with an app. Actually I would only need to copy su to /system/xbin. These are the things I already tried (without success):Framaroot (doesn't work, because framaroot does not support Rockchip tablets)
Writing my own app, which contains su in the assets and using this su for temporary root
Using adb (on the device) for a local connection (adb connect localhost), because if I connect from my PC I automatically have root (doesn't work because Android 4.2.2 has increased security on adb)
Start telnetd via busybox and then execute my commands via nc (doesn't work, because I can't start telnetd in a way that it ends up with a root shell)
My last idea is, that I could maybe gain temporary root access with the app I already have in /system/app. Basically this would be similar to the Master Key Exploit, except that I do not have to fiddle around with the apk and instead install it normally. However I don't know how to continue from that point. I know, I have special permissions if I have an app in /system/app, but which permissions are that? And how can I use those permissions to make /system writeable (and copy my su file there)?

Some of these sites are Asian, and I know that others are known spyware sites.What the hell is this stuff? I've never been to any of these sites on my phone, and these aren't my favorites.I noticed this happening the day I bought my Droid Inc and before I installed any third-party apps. Could Google be behind this? Doubleclick is one of the sites that pops up on this thing too.

HTC Desire :: Loosing Emails In Googlemail Account
Aug 2, 2010I have just noticed that I an now looking emails when I read them in the mail app (not gmail but the HTC mail). I have my mail set up to the pop on my googlemail account. I can go into mail and see my new mail, but if I then refresh all the mail will disappear. I upgrade to Froyo last night and prior to that all was well. I have not changed any settings on mail or my googlemail account.
