HTC Incredible :: Screwed With G - Sensor Settings / Phone Won't Go Into Landscape
May 4, 2010
I was dunking around with settings and got to the g-sensor level. I clicked calibrate, everything seemed fine. Now the phone won't go into landscape mode unless I shake it hard a few times. How the hell do I fix this?

I'm trying to detect landscape vs portrait orientation with the following:
public void onSensorChanged(SensorEvent event) { float pitch = event.values[2];
if (pitch <= 45 && pitch >= -45) { // portrait }
else if (pitch < -45) { // landscape }
else if (pitch > 45) { // landscape } }
Anyone have something more robust? It works pretty well, except if the phone is in a landscape orientation and the user starts to 'flatten' it out, starts thinking it's in the portrait orientation again.

Woke up this morning to a notification that phone needed an upgrade. After downloading, I had to new extra screens for apps and widgets, which I don't really need. It also took away my clock on the main screen, which I use frequently. It also created a jumbled, stacked screen that included internet bookmarks, communications, and a calculator, all of which are too large to fit on the screen, and therefore, cannot be moved or changed in size, but will allow them to be deleted. Anyone else have this experience? How can I go back to the way my phone was?

I installed this program to try it and didn't like it so I uninstalled it. Now sometimes when my phone is locked the wi-fi shuts off. It never did this before. Any ideas on how to restore it? I don't know what changes locationbot made.

Does anyone know if there will be a landscape keyboard on the HTC Incredible?
I haven't heard anything about it.. I think it would be a real bummer if there wasn't.

Not sure if this is a problem or if it has always been like this-I was out on Friday night and had my phone laying flat horizontally-I tried to get it into landscape mode by rotating-it wouldn't work. The only way I could get it to flip into landscape mode was to hold it vertically. Is there something wrong with my phone or am I imagining things?

I have a HTC Hero here, and when I tried to get the list of available sensors on the device by calling ((SensorManager) getSystemService (Context.SENSOR_SERVICE)) .getSensorList(Sensor.TYPE_ALL); I get only the following sensors: D/SensorManager( 6302): found sensor: BMA150 3-axis Accelerometer, handle=0 D/SensorManager( 6302): found sensor: AK8973 3-axis Magnetic field sensor, handle=1 D/SensorManager( 6302): found sensor: AK8973 Orientation sensor, handle=2 D/SensorManager( 6302): found sensor: AK8973 Temperature sensor, handle=3 According to the specs, there should be a light and a proximity sensor on the Hero, and I've seen it in action (the automatic screen brightness adjustment) - so at least the ambient light sensor is definitely there. My question is then, why doesn't the getSensorList return for me the light and the proximity sensors?

Does anyone know the difference between the orientation sensor and magnetic field sensor on Android?Since I've read that magnetometer is synonymous with digital compass I'm a little bit confused. What are they really?

My home icon is way less responsive than the back icon which seems to be perfectly normal. Sometimes I have to "press" the home icon twice to get the "buzz" and have it move the screen. However the back icon works 99% of the time on the first press. IS there any adjustment I can make or should I bring the phone back. I have had it now for 2 weeks.

Or it's just some virtual sensor the uses the data provided by the accelerometer and the magnetic field sensor to calculate the orientation?

So a while back techcrunch produced a comparison of 4 different touchscreen accuracy.
The article is here: iPhone Beats Droid, Nexus One And Droid Eris In Touchscreen Performance (I'm not saying their results are correct or incorrect)
It seems to be an easy and accurate testing method of the touchscreen sensors' accuracy.
What I want:Please read that previous article in its entirety so you understand it. Reproduce the test using the Incredible. Post pictures of your results. Include any relevant info about your testing methods, the app you used, amount of practice you did before producing the results in the pictures you post, any strange results during the course of your testing, etc.
BONUS POINTS: include your other phones like the Droid, iPhone, Eris, Nexus One, etc. (ie. newer phones)
If you have an issue with the testing methods being proposed please explain IN-DEPTH what you take issue with AND WHY. If you are going to reference other threads PLEASE PROVIDE THE LINK.

Yesterday my Droid Incredible kept telling me there was an update to my phone. I waited until 8 or 9 hours later and then did the update last night. EVERY single app, contact, messgae, email...everything is GONE...the phone is like the day I got it. I had no warning and I'm beyond devastated. I was able to use Backup Assistant for my contacts, LOTS of pictures are gone, ALL my message threads are gone and on Monday, I'm going to have to reset my Exchange email at work. I've reloaded my personal email and some apps I remember, but I cannot tell you how upset I am.
One of the biggest problems is I don't know what I don't have? I had so many apps, and I don't have a record of them.
Is there some way to back up everything on the phone, all settings, etc, to a website so this never happens again? I am NOT rooted and a I have Froyo 2.2

My Huawei Activa 4g was rooted and all was well. I went to change the DPI with the DPI Modded app from the play store, and its all screwed up now. I can't get past my lock screen, it only shows the clock and the emergency call button. I can't swipe the dots, and they aren't just invisible. I was dumb and deleted my backup.

Does your brightness sensor seem to be a bit too sensitive? When I have my Incredible on auto brightness and I am reading a website I can watch it adjust up and down when there are no changes in the brightness of the room I am in. My fix was to just select a brightness and turn auto off.

I just received a Droid Incredible and I believe it's a great phone, but there is one thing on it that makes it difficult for me to fully enjoy using it. I use the calendar everyday to type meetings, appointments, and reminders. I noticed that when I try to type anything using either calendar (HTC or Google's calendar), the portrait orientation is the only option that is offered. I know that the landscape keyboard is available for everything else (text messages, internet, etc.), but I'm forced to type all of my calendar appointments using the portrait keyboard. This slows down my typing whenever I use the calendar. I tried using the voice to text option to input text, but it is not always accurate. Is there an option under calendars that I did not find that makes it possible for me to type in the landscape orientation or do I need to download an app that will make it possible to type in the calendar using the landscape keyboard?

I'm new to android development and I'm implementing a simple localization method to get used to the device. I've been reading some articles and I can't seem to figure out how the phone figures out sensor accuracy. My guess is that it decides this based on how long its been since it was last calibrated.

I am working on a project using HTC magic which requires the data from the electronic compass, including both the accelerometer and magnetic sensor. But I find that there is a significant latency between the move of the phone and the trigger of the sensorChanged event. In other word, the acceleration and magnetic data obtained from sensor are updated about half of a second after my motion. And I have several questions about the problem as follow. Are the orientation data computed by the acceleration and magnetic data? Or are there a physical sensor for orientation? Does the latency result from the android API (using the event) or the physical limitation of the electronic compass? It is said that the model of the electronic compass is AK8976A from Asahi Kasei. Does anybody have the datasheet or know the frequency of the sampling? Any idea to improve the real-time experience?
