Jun 30, 2010I use handcent and have delivery reports on cuz I think it's helpful to know if a text actually went through. Starting around 2 weeks ago, text messages sent through handcent would report as 'unsuccessful,' and the orange icon would appear next to it instead of the green checkmark. The messages are going though, but the report says otherwise. I've reset my phone, battery pulled, uninstalled handcent and reinstalled it, toggled the settings, but the issue remains. I even tried using chompsms for a whle, but had the same problem. However, if I send through the native messaging app, the texts will report as 'delivered.' I'm just wondering if anyone else has come across this and figured it out. It's more of an annoyance than anything, and I can live with it, but it sucks having lost some of that functionality seemingly out of nowhere.

Jan 22, 2010when the stock Messaging app wasn't cutting it, I installed Handcent.But it started flaking out on me, so I dumped it and went to the more-reliable chompSMS.I liked it a lot.But to be completely honest, I missed some of the features of Handcent. But reliability is Job 1, so I kept chompSMS for a few weeks.Then I heard that Handcent received a major update a few days ago, so I replaced chompSMS with Handcent. So far so good. I got all the features back, and I haven't had one single issue in days of texting. So if you're like me and you left Handcent for chompSMS, you may want to give the new version a spin.

Sep 30, 2010With the latest updates to each respective SMS app now with the ability to turn off ads and such, which app do you use and why?
I currently have the vote toward HandCent SMS not having ads in the inbox window and only in the setting window.
Though I both hate how both now have the stupid + symbol next to the message composition window....anyone know how to disable it?

May 25, 2010I used to be a Handcent user and recently switched to ChompSMS. I couldn't be happier with my decision.
It's much faster, much prettier, and has all the features I need or want.
I just don't understand why Handcent seems to be the more popular SMS app.
Motorola Droid :: Chompsms And Handcent Sms
Nov 6, 2009I just got my droid and so far I'm loving it but encountered a couple of issues. I immediately went to download chompsms but it is nowhere to be found in the android market. I tried to install it from the web browser but it gives me an error message "There is a problem parsing the package".
So I installed handcent sms and it seems fine except when I go to compose a new message there are no contacts in the contact list even though I have all my contacts from my gmail account.

Oct 20, 2009Some things I've noticed after using each one for a day, and they have me quite baffled.
ChompSMS seems to do more for the battery(in my case at least). Displaying a 19% awake time, compared to a 100% awake time with my handcent SMS, still haven't figured that out, anyone else getting similar results?
ChompSMS started bugging on me not recognizing the orientation of my phone? Uninstalled, installed and reset my phone seems to be working fine, Handcent however was stable and solid the whole time.
ChompSMS takes up LESS memory. With only Screebl Lite and Advanced Task Killer up I was seeing 53 available memory with HandcentSMS installed compared to 81 with ChompSMS installed, someone care to confirm this?
All this leads me to believe that ChompSMS is the better alternative messaging app based on statistics, but of course personal preference should be considered too. Would like to see more people compare and contrast these two and post results also.
Android :: Tracker Ball Flashing With Chompsms/Handcent
Nov 11, 2009I wud like to know if it's possible to get the tracker ball to flash when i get msgs with any of the txt msg software on the market namely chomp/handcent? I can only get it to work with the default app but not with the 3rd party software. Im a txt junkie n i think the flashing tracker ball is a great touch without turning ur fone on every time to chk.

Sep 5, 2010So after reinstalling chompsms twice, the timestamp out of order doesn't disappear so I'm using Handcent in the meantime.
Handcent is good but I don't like how when you're adding a contact in "To" field, the number shows. Is there any way I can enable the contact NAME to show up in the To: field?

HTC Incredible :: MMS Via ChompSMS
Jun 18, 2010I've been using ChompSMS for a while now and like all the features but I ran into a problem. When I send pictures the person receiving them gets them all blurry and fuzzy looking. When I used the stock message app they come though fine. I've been testing this sending pictures to my wife who also has an Incredible. I have the MMS size option set to no limits and also the Preserve Image Resolution checked but it didn't seem to help.

Jun 23, 2010I just downloaded the update to Handcent and they made it so the contacts picture shows in the chat area, thereby limiting the overall space available for messages. To me, this is not a beneficial update and I want to disable the new feature. Has anyone figured out how to do so yet? I may look into Chomp SMS if this cannot be disabled.

May 24, 2010I am having a problem sending MMS to AT&T from my Incredible. I attached the photo and it resizes it and says it sends but my friend never gets it. I tried to send one with the stock messaging app and it went through.
SMS messages go through fine. I even upped the size limit of a picture from 300KB to 1M and still nothing and some of the resized pics are way less than 300KB.
I was able to send an older pic that didn't need to be resized. Could it be the resizing?

Aug 31, 2010Is there a way to backup the Handcent settings? Took me a couple hours to completely customize Handcent the way I wanted it and now if I upgrade to Froyo I'll lose all the settings. Titanium Backup doesn't backup anything but the application.

Sep 2, 2010Has anyone else been experiencing this issue?The rest of my applications have been running great.I love the new additions of 2.2 but was surprised to see a slowdown in Handcent.I understand that some people have been experiencing typing lag,I have as well but even while opening the application and choosing between contacts I have noticed a great deal of lag.Enough to make me go back to the stock messanger(which could have used some customization options with froyo IMO).

Jul 20, 2010So I have a good amount of contacts in my phone and never do I have a problem with responding to texts even if the person isn't in my phone book. I have one contact that for whatever reason I can't respond to with Handcent. When she texts me I reply normally and it says there's no contact, so I have to go into the stock program and talk to her thru it. Has anyone else experienced this before? honestly if it was someone I talked to regularly I would have to go back to stock but I rarely talk to this person but when I do it's kind of annoying, and I forget and start using handcent so I always have to cut and paste things.
