Android :: How To Copy Android Contacts Birthday To Calendar?
Mar 9, 2010I'm an htc tattoo owner, and i'm watching for a way to copy contacts' birthday (retrieved from facebook) to the built-in calendar. I'm not afraid to develop a custom app but I'll be more happy if there's one built-in or already existing. Do you know if there's a way to read contacts' informations and write it to the calendar?

May 22, 2010I've seen quite a few people wondering how to get the birthday's from their contacts (either google, facebook or both) into their calendars. Here is how to do it.
First, Facebook limits the way you can view their data (phone numbers, birthday's, etc.). They will allow you to view it, but not to scrape the data to transfer to another app (which is why there is no way to sync your google and facebook addressbooks). I remember a while back somebody wrote a facebook app that would sync with Plaxo and facebook shut down the users account within a day of him starting to use the program. Because of this limitation, you will need to add 2 calendars to get all your birthdays and if you have a birthday in both facebook and google, that birthday will appear twice. That being said, here is what you can do.
To add Birthdays from Google contacts to your Google Calendar.
1. Using a computer go to calendar.google.com
2. Top Right corner, click on settings/calendar settings.
3. Under Calendar settings click Calendars
4. By Other Calendars, click Browse Interesting Calendars
5. Under Interesting Calendars, select More
6. Subscribe to the Contacts' Birthdays and Events calendar.
7. Return to Calendar, your Contacts' Birthdays should now be appearing.
8. On your phone open the calendar app and go to menu/more/refresh
9. Go to menu/more/calendars and make sure the new CBE calendar is checked.
10. Back to Calendar. The birthdays should now be showing.
11. If they do not appear, try menu/refresh.
12. If they still do not appear go to menu/more/calendars/remove and remove the CBE calendar then menu/more/calendars/add and readd the CBE calendar (this is what I had to do).
*Google does not currently have a way to add reminders to this calendar. You can add a reminder to any individual birthday, one at a time, from your phone, but the reminders will not sync back to the web version of Gcal and will only work on the phone.
To add Birthdays from Facebook to your Google Calendar
1. Go to fbCal.com - Facebook Calendar Generator, and click Get your calendars now
2. In facebook click Allow/Allow/Allow
3. Under "Subscribe to Friends Birthdays" click the Google Calendar icon
4. In Google Calendar, Select Yes add this Calendar
5. In Google Calendar go to Settings/Calendars, double click the calendar with the really long complicated name, and rename to fbCal or something else you will remember, Save. Facebook birthdays should now be showing in Gcal.
6. In your phone calendar, menu/more/refresh
7. Menu/more/calendars/ and put a checkmark next to the fbCal calendar.
8. Menu/more/refresh
9. Everything should be working now.
*If you go back to the fbCal page in facebook, you can follow the same process to create a calendar for Facebook events. You CAN create regular Google notifications for both facebook calendars.
Motorola Droid :: Can't Delete Birthday From Google Calendar
Jun 5, 2010I have my Droid set to display my "contact's birthdays" calendar, BUT there are some contacts that I have deleted but their birthdays still show up in my calendar ONLY on my phone. When I look at my google calendar on a computer, the birthdays that belong to those deleted contacts are NOT displayed.

Sep 15, 2010I'm having difficulties with ensuring I get a reminder alert for when each of my contacts birthday is due. This seems a remarkable omission for a phone. All my previous phones have just performed this function without needing any setting up, assuming the birthday is set in the contact. I have so far learned that you need to ensure you have changed the settings in Google Calendar online: Settings -> Calendar Settings -> Calendars tab -> Browse Interesting Calendars -> More tab -> Subscribe to Contacts' Birthdays and Events.I have done this, and now the birthdays appear in the Calendar application on the phone. Can someone please enlighten me on how I can ensure an alert is generated for these birthday reminders in the calendar?

Dec 13, 2009I've got an old Sony Erikson which obviously has all my contacts on. I've just got the hero, and want to import my old phone book. I've put the old Sim card in the hero, but can see no way of copying the info off the Sim. I synced the hero with the old card in it to my pc. Will this have copied the info over, and do I just sync the phone again to have the info copied over. I notice that all my g mail contacts are on the new phone. I assume using g mail on it has just carried it over, but no phone numbers. Any advice on best way to do this, much appreciated.

Feb 9, 2010I miss typing in someones name on my BB keyboard and then pressing their name to call them. Love the Hero though. I know the hero can do this, but there are two things I dislike: 1. It uses a keypad not a keyboard. 2. The keypad takes up so much space that you can only see 2.5 names at a time, not 7 or 8+ like a BB. (I know about pressing the button to remove the keypad to see more names) Is there any way of changing #1 or #2 on my Hero? Also, What is the fastest way to copy someone's number and paste it in a text message to someone else? A task I seem to do more often than I would like. The send contact as a vcard is cool, but not all phones can read vcards.

Dec 22, 2009I have this triplication problem;
1. I have a Google Apps account with my contacts/calendar etc
2. I have my work exchange account
3. I have Outlook 2007 standalone on my home laptop to access gmail etc
I have always used WM devices in the past and kept the work exchange and home outlook in sync using the device.
So when I got this, I synced outlook and exchange, got a copy of the PST and uploaded it into my google account.
Set up google and exchange, and installed htc sync on the laptop and synced phone, now I have 3 sets of addresses and 2 sets of calenders with the same thing. How best to sort this!
If I am at work I would add things etc to my exchange, and at home to outlook stand alone, is there an app that syncs the 3 together!
HTC Hero :: Synchronize Outlook Calendar And Contacts With Vista
Jul 25, 2009Has anyone tried using HTC Sync to synchronise Outlook Calendar and Contacts with the Hero on Vista (Ultimate)? I have had great problems getting the phone and PC/Laptop to recognise each other, despite turning off Firewall and Antivirus and allowing HTC Sync to run as Administrator. I have only got it to work once on my Laptop, despite uninstalling and reinstalling, and I only got it to work a second time on my PC after several reboots. I don't have problems synching other devices (Treo 650 and TomTom) so I don't think it is a hardware problem.
If you use Categories for Calendar entries in Outlook then watch out, as the Hero Calendar does not support them and deletes them all, which resulted (for me) with a lot of duplicate entries in Outlook. One-way syncs (PC -> Hero) might be the only solution if I want to keep Categories. Other than that, the phone is great. I am sure that the inevitable teething problems will be sorted out soon.

Sep 21, 2009I'm having a strange problem with a new HTC Hero: I've installed the driver (recognized correctly in device manager) on Windows XP and also the HTC Sync 2.0.4 without problems. However, when trying to synchronize with Outlook 2003, it works with my contacts, but then it stops and says the synchronization failed and no calender entries are copied.

Oct 18, 2009Is there a way to sync Google calendar and contacts to the phone calendar and contacts?
I deleted all my outlook entries (calendar and contacts) from the phone because it was creating duplicates. Now, I am syncing my Hero with my Lotus Notes calendar at work, as well with my Google calendar. I can see all appointments on my phone. However, I can't see Lotus appointments on my Google account, neither my Google calendar entries on my Lotus Notes.
How can I sync them all? If I import my Google entries into Lotus, it will create duplicates in the Phone and vice-versa.
I don't see any advantages for Google entries to be separated from my other entries. I have one list of contacts and that list should be the same across all programs I use. The same for calendars (actually it is useful to have multiple calendars, as long as no duplicates exists).
That, for me, is the biggest drawback of the HTC Hero. My Moto Q was a lot worse phone than the Hero, but the calendar and contacts sync was much better.

Jul 14, 2010I am sick and tired of deleting duplicate entries in contacts and calendar. There is no rhyme or reason. I get some contacts duplicated numerous times. I get duplicate appointments and my new ones refuse to link to the PC. I have tried everthing that two weeks of constant googling can come up with. I am sooooooo GD sorry that I purchased this POS phone and from my point of view the Android system is also a POS.
Next time I am going to finally bite the bullet and get an iPhone.
If anyone has something new please let me know what to do. I have deleted ALL contacts in Google. I have deleted ALL duplicate contacts at least a dozen times. The stupid system still adds, at random, duplicate contacts and tasks. The stupid phone has even linked contacts with no reason or input from me. The calendar has put holidays in numerous dates. Columbus day was in the calendar seven times when I did the last cleanup (I have done 3 seperate cleanups today alone). Independence day was put on both July 4th and 5th. When I deleted it from the 5th it disappeared altogether. I thought my old Palm Treo was bad.

I create a new event on my computer. The details are usually a few pages long (For business) Google syncs it to the calendar widget. When I open it, I choose edit so that I can get to the copy app. But when I try to copy a section it wants to copy all text or none.

This is so I can use my good old Nokia 6200 again. Now since there are no options in the standard software, I downloaded this app. Contacts 2 Sim. It has a function for copying contacts and this SEEMS to work (it gives me a message saying it copied 192 contacts). BUT... When I put my Sim-card over to the other phone nothing has changed. Also when I, switch my Samsung off and on again (after copying to SIM) the contacts are already gone from the Sim again. Is my SIM locked or something? It is a bit annoying so if someone could help me out it would be great.
