I got annoyed with the sync with gmail feature. I didn't want all those ppl in my contacts. So i turned off the sync and I just manually edited all my contacts and attached them to their facebook accnts. Now im a ill worried that they are all on my phone and not being backed up anywhere. Is there a way to sync with gmail and overwrite my contacts? Or is there a way to sync it with a new gmail account?

I use a Droid and Google contacts. I hate Google's contact interface - it crashes Internet Explorer half the time - so I want to edit my contacts on my Droid and have them get updated on Google contacts. I tried this, but when I sync, the google data overwrites what is on my Droid. I've lost a lot of changes already. I tried deleting the contact in Google thinking the Droid contact would then become dominant, but the contact just got deleted on my Droid. But when I add a new contact on the Droid, it does go to Google. So it seems that all the existing Google contacts only sync one way - from google down to the Droid. I must change this. I need updates to happen both ways or else I need to make changes only go up to Google from the Droid.

Sim IS UNCHECKED but in dialer both are showing and in contacts/people google only shows until I want to search contacts all sim contacts show in the results, resulting in multiple numbers for one contact. View 2 Replies View RelatedI noticed that the Family / Friends / Colleagues groups on Google (the default, unchangeable groups there) aren't synced with my Hero. As a work-around I've created 2 new groups, "My Family" and "My Friends", but this is messy (I end up with both "Family" AND "My Family" on gmail, but just "My Family" on my Hero). Is there any way to sync those basic 3 groups?

View 4 Replies View RelatedHere is the deal, back in Jan when I finally got all my contacts sorted and edit after some issues with sync, I tuned off the Auto sync, with the idea that I would force a sync when I wanted to and I could watch what was going on.I have about 350-375 contacts in my phone currently. I want to play with some 2.1 roms so I need to get these synced to gmail so I dont loose them again. i can not get it to sync. I get :I have tried setting auto sync and still have an issue.
There have been a lot of threads on this issue but I have 2 additional queries which I have not seen noted before. Firstly, why when I have set up my Gmail contacts on my computer into 8 groups do only 4 groups appear on my phone after synching? Secondly, is there anyway that the Google contacts can be rearranged so that the surname comes first - this can be done for phone contacts but does not appear possible for Google contacts?

So I spent over hours trying to figure out a way to do it and eventually forced me to create all my contacts in my PC (which I just import/exported to my gmail account), but that took me about an hour or 2. So I was wondering if there was some way I can backup my contacts FROM the phone, directly onto gmail, or a contacts file. When I set up my new (refurb) phone with my gmail account, I had tons of contacts in my phone that I had never seen before. The girl at sprint said it imports all of my email contacts, and it looked like they had added contacts from email addresses I had only emailed once, that werent even in my contacts group on my email. They ended up wiping my contacts and transferring them over from my old hero. She said I should create a new gmail account, and use it ONLY for syncing my contacts, that way I dont get all the other email contacts in my phone also. Im wondering how I do this, because I want to set it up before 2.1 comes out for the hero, so when I upgrade to 2.1, I wont have the same issue.

I had a Samsung Infuse before this and have never had a problem. I've had the S4 for about 3 weeks now and this hasn't happened until yesterday. And since yesterday it has happened 3x's. At first I thought it was a Trulia app (realestate app) that I was using to try to call some realtors. I'm not sure if it was a coincidence but the first 2 times I was on the app and my contacts disappeared. How I recovered them was through the contacts recovery feature on Gmail. I would be SOL if I were out and needed to call someone on my contacts list immediately and without access to my laptop.

For instance contact #1 has a gmail account I can see the picture that they update on their gmail account and statuses but contact #2 doesn't show anything from there gmail account. Icon by phone numbers saved on phone is a cell phone, rather than the letter "G" which typically represents contacts pulled from Gmail online. I've had this issue - I believe - with my previous Samsung. Although I've seen this question brought up before, the answers are typically not device specific or have not been useful and clear to follow.

I want to link all of my facebook contacts so they show up in my gmail contacts? Otherwise, the contact on my phone from Facebook may be, and in many cases is, missing lots of relevant information. For example, many people don't keep their full address, or their phone number, on Facebook. If this is so, then no phone number or address is stored on my phone for the many friends who got in my contact list via the Facebook Motoblur magic. I can update these manually, via the phone screen-keyboard, but I would like to use the much easier-to-access PC to gmail user interface. But alas, I cannot, as all of these Facebook contacts don't show up on the gmail list at all.

However she now needs to return the phone for service (silent call bug) and she went to G mail to ensure all her contacts was backed up... they are not. I have a Droid 3. My Accounts include my main Gmail acct, a gmail acct I hardly ever use (no contacts issues there), a pop3 account and a Touchdown-Exchange account which I dont need because Im not connected to that Exchange server any longer. Some time ago, since I wasnt on the Exchange server any more, I deleted the Touchdown account. Then I realized some or most of my Google contacts had disappeared from the phone. Thinking that this would delete the same contacts from the Gmail servers when it synced, I immediately restored the Touchdown account, restoring the lost contacts to the phone. Are these 2 issues related?
