View 6 RepliesNot sure if this should be posted in the Apps thread but this is with regards to apps that came pre-installed on my HTC Hero. Is there any difference between the Google Maps that came pre-installed on my HTC Hero and the Maps that is available to download from Market?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have done many of reverse engineering for other electronics in the past, Since Im new to android I was wondering before even wasting my time if is possible to port, or built a rom from sources or a phone thatis NOT External SD built in to a phone that it have the external sd built in.
Making it short can I try to reverse engineer the android code from a Nexus 5 (no ext_sd) to other device that have ext_sd built in?
If is possible where should I be looking to start trying making some development on this as I haven't done nothing close quite.
I know Yahoo Messenger looks pretty good on iPhone. I was wondering what Yahoo! Messenger looks like on HTC Hero? Is it a build-in app to the phone or do you have to download YM
for it.
I have handcent as the default sms prog, but when I receive one I get pop ups both from the HTC proggy and Handcent which is a bit annoying.
Any idea how I can disable the built in one?
Just got my Hero last night from Best buy with that nice little coupon! Great device so far, except that I cant send SMS at all. I can receive them though. I tried sending with the built in app, as well as HandCent.
When sending with the built in app, I get this error:
Cause Code 97
Error Code 2
I have tried updating firmware, PRI and PRL. Also rebooted the phone. Nothing makes it work. Anyone have ideas what I can do to make this work?
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones that can get mms on my hero but when i download the incoming mms it shows up once then after i close it i can not view or find the picture again. Ive mounted the phone and looked in the download folder of sd card but nothing is there, and its certainly not in any of my albums. Is this yet another bug int he Hero's mms handling? a side question is there a way to adjust the snooze time on the built in alarm clock?
View 1 Replies View RelatedDon't know if this has been mentioned but Orange maps is now available to download for the Hero. Working a treat on mine
View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't know if this is because I'm running a custom ROM or that we are still on 1.5 but this is the latest app to go AWOL from the market. This is a real pain as it has some great new features and really tests my patience if this is only for 1.6 and above. Does anyone have a link to the .apk?
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I try and use this the maps often don't appear even when outside, just get left with the grid. Should I do a reset ? (& bearing in mind I still can't get HTC Sync to install on my pc) or is it more likely to be related to the network ? I have both wireless and gps enabled and the latest version of google maps. Sky map seems to work fine (so uses the compass) but not google maps so can't get a map most of the time let alone streetview.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just recieved my HTC Hero today (second hand) and under build number it has MoDaCo Custom ROM 3.1 Core.
So i assume this means it is running a rooted ROM. Problem is there is no google maps on my phone and i cant seem to get it from the market, nor the google maps website. I did a factory reset before i used the phone.
When using google maps for directions is there a setting you can use so the map moves. At the moment I have to keep adjusting it with my finger to show me where I am as I have driven off the screen :-)
View 8 Replies View RelatedFlashed villain today, all working fine. Like a plank, I didn't back up my Orange Maps app cos I thought I'd D'L it again from Orange once villain5.3 was working ok. Since the new ROM has been on, I go to the D'L link on Oranges' website, but it says my phone is not compliant and Orange Maps won't work on my phone.

View 4 Replies View Relatedwhich gps app has the most accurate maps? i have been using copilot live and some roads it gets a bit confused about, and shows some residential streets as not there. From experience which app has the best maps?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI used Google Maps as I had some running around to do. I was not using GPS, I have it turned off and have full HSPA (H) showing on phone. Anyways, I put in my first stop and GMaps gave me the directions right away... so no problem. After I was done at the first place, I put in my second stop. GMaps showed exactly the same directions . I've been home now for about 1/2 and still, the exact same directions no matter what I put in.I have not turned the phone off/on or anything like that, because quite frankly, I shouldn't have to!Anyone get this happening with GMaps?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI would like Google Maps to over-ride the sleep timer on my phone and always stay on. I downloaded the app "Trapster", which is a police notification overlay on top of Google Maps. It has the feature of over-riding the sleep timer and keeps the display always on. Disabling the sleep timer is not an option. I would like Google Maps to have the same functionality a 3rd party overlay app is giving me.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI noticed an update for Google Maps to 3.2.1. Being on the Hero, GM is pre-loaded and I don't know how to update it to the new version (since it's not listed in my Market downloaded, being that it was pre-loaded on the phone).Does it automatically do it, or do I have to uninstall and grab the new version from the Market? I went into the settings, but there was nothing there to check for updates, just 'Latitude' and the other standard options.
View 18 Replies View RelatedI just installed VillainROM 10.3.0 Final and so far I noticed that Google Maps is not working.
View 6 Replies View Relatedwhen I try using directions in Google Maps, only some of my contacts come up in the address book. Which is strange, because I have a lot more people in my contacts that have their addresses entered in?Does anyone else have this problem?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI went to put in an address this morning in google navigation to use for the first time and it had several addresses cached that I had searched on my laptop when looking up stuff on google maps. How do I clear these cached addresses out of my phone?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI really like the new Google Navigation, and it would be really handy for when I go abroad cycling, apart from the roaming charges. Any apps that can cashe the maps and store them, or must I always be connected?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen i used google maps with my N96 it used to load up first and show my approximate location, so it would guess where I was to the nearest 100metres or something like that, and then when the GPS loaded up it pinpointed my exact location. Is it possible to do that with google maps for the hero?
It would make using things like "places directory" and generally getting directions with google maps a lot easier if you could check out something indoors, then it would lock down your location when you went outside and found your gps.
Is there an app for gps navigation that stores the maps on the sd card like a tom tom would instead of using data plan?
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust found Google Maps 4.6 on Market. But tried several times and all failed on installation with just the notification "Installation unsuccessful". Download seems completed and the message was prompted a while after installation started. I'm using VR12.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI updated the firmware on my HTC Hero some time ago from Modaco to Firmware 1.5.I just got an N1, so I restored the Hero to give to my wife, and the next thing I noticed is there was no Google Maps. I went in to the Market and again...I couldn't even pull it in a search even though I pulled it in searches on my N1.
Does anyone know what's up here? Do I need to upgrade my firmware? If so, does anyone have a link to the install?
Anyone know how to keep the screen on while in google maps? Especially while plugged into the car charger. I get annoyed of having to turn the phone on and then unlocking it.... then having gmaps reload to my location while I'm driving.
In my previous TPro, there was a setting where I could just keep the screen on if my phone was plugged in.
Just got my new HTC hero. Everything's fine, been installing apps like crazy, sorted out videos, but not for the satnav.. For some reason, when I go on Google Maps, it minimizes right out of it to the home screen where my clock is.
If I hold the house button, it's still open, and if I go back to it again, it will just minimize again after a short while. I got it to stay open once, but now it's just messed up
Any fixes or alternative Sat Navs I can use?
Every time I open Google Maps, a little pop-up window says "Unable to load the URL" The program works fine, it's just kind of annoying. Does anyone else experience this? Is there a known solution? I cleared the cache and data and force-stopped the ap, but it still happens. For what it's worth, the same exact thing happened on my Moment (well, on the Moment Google Maps didn't work at all due to the POS GPS)
View 4 Replies View RelatedNot sure if this is for 1.5 (I'm on 2.1), but Google Maps now has navigation and multi-touch. There was a hacked version by Brut.
